If you look at Zantetsu’s weapon arsenal as a whole, he should be way better than he is right now. He had the speed+good dribbling+a golden zone in SELECTION 1
The problem with this characters is the money system in the NEL. Let's say the author decided that Shizuka would score in a Barcha game, that would gave him about 20 million, that amount would have placed him high on the board, leaving behind characters that we know and enjoy (like Raichi, Kurona, Nanase, Zantetsu). From a fan perspective, imagine if your favorite player was left out of the U20 world cup because some random we never saw before scored
@@MuddyWater-fn3rj I'd actually say it better reflects the limits of the medium. At the end of the day, we could only focus on 23 players in a world cup match, and only 11 could be on the field at any given moment. If that sounds unfair or wasteful, yeah, sports are kinda like that. And it's an unfortunate reality that people who want to go pro deal with on a regular basis.
I remember that xavi was the ethan mbappe, before ethan came into the spotlight. He's still doing well for himself and has plenty of room to grown, he's only 20 after all.
I was fully expecting Tokimitsu to turn into some sort of monster in the NEL due to him going into someone like Julian Loki's club. Since Loki is super confident and egoistic I figured Tokimitsu was going to get over his nervous and anxious personality at least a little bit, but from the looks of it as of right now its not looking good. Which really sucks since Tokimitsu is my favorite character was super strong in the 2nd selection but it is what it is
SPOILERS BELOW: Nagi says Hiiragi only limits himself to the extent of his knowledge (data) and compares him to Isagi who believes of the potential of others to exceed their limitations. That’s why Hiiragi’s downfall was imminent.
Great vid as always I agree fully with Zantetsu, Karasu, and Kunigami. Now I feel Niko getting done dirty was fine since we always see stronger meta-vision users anyway, so having an inferior to Isagi wouldn't hurt. Though I do think he could've gotten even better as a defender, so I'm 50/50 there. As for the "random" players, I feel this is more an issue with manga as a whole where we get an interesting design, only to find out the character is completely irrelevant after a little while. I can't say I expected much from the ones that only had a cool design and nothing else. Kaiser I fully disagree with, but I'd need an entire essay to explain why. And the N.E.L is another 50/50 because while I can understand a few points, I feel people forget just how insane the potential of some of these characters are.
EXACTLY! Endojis design looks better than most we got playing rn. I woulda loved to see his design on somebody like Hiori. While I like hioris design I wanted to see endoji so much more when I first saw all the designs. A shame fr
isn't that the whole idea behind entering the pro league of Soccer, that It becomes much harder to express those individual styles on the field when surrounded by so many good players?
Tbf is it really Kaiser fault? In terms of feats, stat and weapon Kaiser outclass almost if not all Blue locker. I personally think it all his teammate fault for keep memeing and got their spot stolen by the Blue lock player who refuse to play for him.
This man talking about the one major flaw of blue lock being the fact that we only ever get isagi perspective which yea he’s the mc but this is one thing kuroko basketball does better the blue lock in being we get other perspectives and games without kuroko and Kagami
This is so cap, blue lock display the side character more and there also a lot more chaptacter shown in blue lock, so also have the Nagi spin off showing some of them, kuroko no basket only mainly focuses on the generation of miracles..
İ think author invested side characters too much So a all side characters has somewhat fanbase but we cant see all side characters since nature of the blue lock
Zantetsu is getting shafted purely because of Loki's obsession with Charles. Loki seems to straight up not care at alll about actually guiding and teaching his Blue Lock students. He only cares about making them better as it applies in the context of making Charles shine and getting him to mature as a player. Meaning everyone who isn't Shidou or Rin is going to get sidelined
From my perspective, the U20 Japan game was the shibua incident of Blue Lock. Action-packed, super hype, and giving us strong players and plot points we want to follow up with in future chapters. Where we're at now represents the buildup to the next big moments, with enough payoffs sprinkled in that things don't get too boring. Kunagami has been an important part of BM, with hints of his past trauma being shown and the ego to stand up for himself and others being destroyed for Ego's schemes. If he immediately reverted, his arc would be super rushed, but as it stands, the U20 selections are used to build him up so he can have a cool moment in U20 worlds. Also, remember that the goal of most Blue Lockers isn't to be the best U20 player in the world, but to be the best player in the world period. Thus, if Blue Lockers weren't even on the level of the people who would play in these selections, how would they hope to face their coaches. And those coaches have been getting some SERIOUS hype, from warping the game whenever they enter to showing hints of a power struggle that Blue Lockers are currently just pawns for (Loki using the best strikers we know just to train a midfielder we've never met is kinda cold if you think about it). Thus, it's not exactly weird that Blue Lockers are the key strikers for their respective teams, since the strikers who could devour them are coaching instead of playing. As for characters we've only ever heard about in passing, I don't think they count as "underdeveloped." Isayama is an absolute GOAT at character designing, and if you look at that panel from the opening of the manga, there are a lot of interesting-looking characters that never even get panned to. Their use is to imply a bigger scale than can be fully fleshed out in a series of small-group games and to fill in the slots of people Isayama needs to exist for realism purposes but can't develop for time ones. If they were ever developed in a meaningful way, we would expect them to have a quantity of panels that is unrealistic to devote to people who won't matter for the overall plot. However, by leaving them unexplored, we are left to imagine what sort of character arcs they are going through, which uses the same principles as cosmic horror writers do to exploit the reader's imaginations and make the story feel more personal. Oh, and also serves the theming, because if you want to learn about people who look unique, interesting, and vibrant, but never made a splash on the world stage, how many of those people do you think exist in high school and colegic-level sports? Even if it's the "way things work," and everyone who does matter plays knowing they could become irrelevant with a few bad games, it's kinda tragic that so many cool stories never come to light even though they should. And if you, as a consumer, would push this hard to learn about the fate of fictional characters a Mangaka doesn't have time to develop, why not spend that effort to look into real-life people who genuinely deserve the attention, but wether through misfortune or mismanaged talent, never got the opportunity to shine?
Otoya not on the list??? Karasu will definitly have development since he's playing against hiori atm. Same goed for kunigami whose currently the most focused on. Also, zantetsu isn't getting neglected, both in the current manga and current parts of episode nagi. Nikko also has had a lot of development.
Kunigami was the biggest waste of potential especially with the amount of hype he carried from the wildcard. I don’t think the rest are wasted potential besides the dark side of blue lock of course I don’t Kaiser was all that to begin with i mean Chris even said kaiser only picks on players weaker than him which is the complete opposite of isagi
I respact that you gived the light on karasu...He should be up there with the likes of rin/barou/and shidou/nagi in this last arc because of how he and the top 5 were hyped in the pre U20 game as best BL players+ placing above nagi after everything we saw nagi could do and so much more
I don’t think Niko was wasted potential. As much as a rivalry can be formed between him Isagi. It wasn’t really a rivalry after the first selection. Niko has improved a lot too but Niko is still 2 years younger than him
There’s too many “unique” characters in the story and not enough for those characters to do. It’s better to focus on developing a handful of characters and their dynamics like the second selection instead of trying to make 40 characters equally relevant.
I agree with most of your points. Something to be hopeful for is that there is a really high amount of unknown players in the u20. Kaiser only came to boost his rep and find a new club. So i could see the author coming up with many reasons why tons of other talented players decided not to join.

Of course, this is an exception for Bastard and PxG because they're the two most focused teams of the arc
