I can’t afford the Hermes H sandals, but I love them. I did find a genuine leather dupe from Sam Edelman, that were under $100/pair (US). They are great, but don’t have the beautiful top-stitching of the Hermes. No need to break in leather shoes, Emma, just rub the insides generously with Neatsfoot oil, let soak in a bit, then wear them. A very old-timer cobbler taught me this decades ago, and it really works. Caution: this can darken lighter leathers, and can oversoften leather, depending on what one likes. For example, I treated my first Birkies (Arizonas, now 35 years old) this way, after getting blisters, and the straps did fall a bit. I prefer to have the comfort, and perhaps a slightly softer-looking shoe, but I know some women don’t want any creasing, etc.
Emma, do the Aeyde sandals run true to size? I would love to pick up the cream pair but am unsure of how they fit, especially with US vs. EU sizing, and whether they run narrow? Thanks!
Birkenstock Gizeh are a nice toe post sandal, affordable and easy to walk in. I tend to go for Superga Cotu trainers in summer as I do a lot of driving and they are very reasonably priced on Amazon.
I’m longing to add to my Birkie “collection” (one pair), maybe the white or black leather. My old fawn nubucks are a bit ratty, but I’ve worn them daily around the house, and out, for 35 years. That’s why I’m sticking with the brand, you can’t get more from a shoe than that. I’ve only had them re-soled once. Total cost per wear: something like 1/25 of a penny?

Also, as far as sandals...I love my Birks; I've had many styles but I seem to enjoy the Arizona's the best. I also love my Marni Fusbet sandals. I wore them all over Rome one day for a walking tour and they did not let me down for comfort but they are definitely heavier so I wouldn't want to have them be my only pair of sandals on a holiday. Your feet would need a break from them now and then. I also have a pair of Beek "Finch" sandals in tan that are a bit more boho but I love (similar to your ATP with the toe strap). Teva's are great for a casual holiday where you are wearing more "active" clothing due to the nature of your destination- think New Zealand? Finally, if I was allowed to take only one pair of sandals on a holiday, they would be my K Jacques. Classic, French, bridge all type of styles, no trend - just perfect.

I am a 40.5 and I sized down to a 40 for the dad sandals and I find them fine but I also take a 40 in Birkenstock so I would say you should be good with 40 👍

I bought the dear Frances Tye sandals in black after hearing you speak so highly of them and I’m in love!! They are so comfortable and just make me so happy when I wear them. Love my black ones so much I ordered them in the olive color, now just have to patiently wait since they are back ordered 🥴

Yes all my Dear Frances sandals are in 40 👍 but as they are different shapes they will fit slightly differently but I couldn't say I have had any issues ❤️
Great collection Emma! Maybe Birkenstock’s are an age thing because I never liked them before, but now as I’m pushing 40 find myself wanting a pair and very much liking the look of the Arizonas. I know you’re only into neutrals, but I think adding a tasteful silver or gold sandal/slide/mule to the mix would add an extra bit of oomph. I have a silver mule and strappy sandals in gold and they make the outfit whenever I wear them. You look really good in this video btw. The tan, hair and green shirt suit you.

Love this collection. I used to have the Hermes sandals, but I wimped out and sold them on, because they destroyed my feet in a very big way! Thanks to you, I have now discovered Dear Frances and I have the Kin in tan (amazing) and I've pre-ordered the Tye Slides in cream with a bargainalicious 20% off. Loved this video! I could watch collections of people's things everyday. For sandals I only own Birks, I have three pairs : Black ones (not the EVA ones but the classics) that I've been owning for 4 or 5 years, a vegan pair that is kind of slightly pink cream tone (was curious to compare the quality and feel - they're as good as the leather bedsole, simply I find they do not shape as much around the feet than the leather) and a pair of brown ones with rose gold/copper buckles. I use them all but my most worn pair is for sure the black and I had these resoled by a local cobbler already, he did such a great job and ordered the original Birkenstock sole which cost slightly more but gives you the original quality and now they're good to go for some more years :)
I haven't had a proper cut and colour since lockdown as the salons have been closed 👍 But I am also embracing and loving my colour and length at the moment.

I wasnt aware of the birkenstock repair services, do you have to pay to have them reworked? can you buy them from a retailer or does it have to be direct from birkenstock?
Yes it is a service you have to pay for but I would assume it is anything Birkenstock but they have some information on their website as there are a couple of exclusions 👍

I have signed up to the newsletters of my favourite brands as they will send out emails notifying you of upcoming sales/discounts in advance. But I have also noticed recently that if I occasionally if I open up a brands page and stay on there for a while (just leave the page open on a laptop for a couple of hours and switch page occasionally) that there is sometimes a pop up that appears with "special" codes for discounts. 👍
It will really depend on the style and the shape of your feet but I would say if you are a full size then stay true to that, although they do have lots of sizing info on their website 👍
I've tried a few pairs of thicker sole flip flops, like you, trying to find a dupe of the Ginza (all have been sent back) I found they were all quite heavy with the thicker sole and I found walking around the house, the strap put way too much strain on my instep. It could be that I have a higher instep that made it more pronounced but regardless, I was not about to experiment and waste $. I am surprised that they couldn't just make the soles out of foam or rubber so they are light like the old platform ones from the 90's but I guess they are trying to have them be higher end. Anyhow, you mentioned that the Dear Frances ones were heavy as well. Did you find they bothered the top of your foot when you first had them?
Its funny as the black ones gave me no problems at all but with the tan ones I got a blister on a toe as well as some rubbing on the top of my foot. But after a couple of wears they were also fine. 👍
hi Emma, do you find the insole of the Birkenstocks hard to walk on (ie they have no flexibility)? I like the look of them but not sure about the cork insole.
I personally haven't had any issues with the flexibility of them and find them comfy for walking around in although this will depend on each individuals feet and what they are used to. 👍

Yes most of them do make a slapping/clicking sound but I guess that's unavoidable with the shoe not being fully secured to the foot. I wouldn't say it was something I really notice or bothers me though but that would be personal preference. 👍
No espadrilles or wedge sandals in the collection? Lovely assortment. As the summers are the shortest season in 🇨🇦 I have a select few number of open toe sandals. Birks are my go-to at the back door for garden or house chores.
I just wouldn't choose to wear heels - only on a rare occasion. And I would class espadrilles as a different category. 👍 But a few people have asked the same so I will probably do a summer shoe video too 👍

They do make a slapping/clacking sound but I wouldn't have said it was loud or that it bothers me. I guess its inevitable when the shoe isn't attached secure at the heel.
The arch support sole in birkenstocks managed to rub my arch really bad :( idk it is such a disappointment, I have no idea if I’ll be able to wear them again. Even though , I usually get blisters after 5 minutes of wearing new summer shoes, with Birkenstocks it was like 10 minutes before my feet were destroyed :D I guess I’m going to live in trainers this summer as usual
I'm the same but I've found that I have to allow my feet to get callused, build up some thicker skin. I just put a preventative band-aid on the places where the shoe rubs and after a few wears I'm usually fine.
I find that Birkenstocks are awful for my arches. I felt horrible instant pain as soon as I put them on and took about 10 steps in my house D: I really wanted a pair to run around in but bloody hell did my arches hurt so back they went..

obsessed with the Dad sandals!! Can i ask if you sized up as I am contemplating which size to get 39.5 or 40 if I am normally 39.5/40 IT in regular shoes. I only trust your sound advice here!
They come up half a size large so I sized down by half a size and they fit perfect 👍
Great collection! Black and beige sandals are the best. And I am finding that lately I really gravitate towards mules and slides. That said, I still love espadrilles for summer, which you didn’t mention... is that because they are in another category or are you not a fan of espadrilles?
Yes I would class them as a more of a summer shoe. Maybe I will have to do a full summer shoe video too 👍

I invested in a pair of Birkenstock’s and absolutely love them- so comfortable. The new dad sandals are a very welcome trend but I do envy your strappier sandals which,unfortunately are a no-no for me. I enjoyed watching this video. I have the Chanel inspired dad sandals from NAKD Fashion. They're probably not as comfy as the Chanel but I cannot afford the Chanels at the moment, so these will do. Love the Dear Francis ones too! 😍

This is probably a silly question, but how do you find out when someplace like Dear Frances is having their 20% off sale?
I have signed up to the newsletters of my favourite brands as they will send out emails notifying you of upcoming sales/discounts in advance. But I have also noticed recently that if I occasionally if I open up a brands page and stay on there for a while (just leave the page open on a laptop for a couple of hours and switch page occasionally) that there is sometimes a pop up that appears with "special" codes for discounts. 👍

Yes I still have them and find them comfortable, although I would say that the suede is definitely more comfortable than the patent leather 👍

I don’t think we have Dear Francis in the USA as I have never heard of it. Do they run true to size?
It will really depend on the style and the shape of your feet but I would say if you are a full size then stay true to that, although they do have lots of sizing info on their website 👍

Yes I would say they would be fine 👍 Im a half size and sized up in the boots to allow for chunky socks and down in the sandals 👍
I've tried a few pairs of thicker sole flip flops, like you, trying to find a dupe of the Ginza (all have been sent back) I found they were all quite heavy with the thicker sole and I found walking around the house, the strap put way too much strain on my instep. It could be that I have a higher instep that made it more pronounced but regardless, I was not about to experiment and waste $. I am surprised that they couldn't just make the soles out of foam or rubber so they are light like the old platform ones from the 90's but I guess they are trying to have them be higher end. Anyhow, you mentioned that the Dear Frances ones were heavy as well. Did you find they bothered the top of your foot when you first had them?
Its funny as the black ones gave me no problems at all but with the tan ones I got a blister on a toe as well as some rubbing on the top of my foot. But after a couple of wears they were also fine. 👍

hi Emma, do you find the insole of the Birkenstocks hard to walk on (ie they have no flexibility)? I like the look of them but not sure about the cork insole.
I personally haven't had any issues with the flexibility of them and find them comfy for walking around in although this will depend on each individuals feet and what they are used to. 👍

Do you find that the sandals that don’t have a strap behind the heel make a ‘clicking’ noise when you walk?
Yes most of them do make a slapping/clicking sound but I guess that's unavoidable with the shoe not being fully secured to the foot. I wouldn't say it was something I really notice or bothers me though but that would be personal preference. 👍

No espadrilles or wedge sandals in the collection? Lovely assortment. As the summers are the shortest season in 🇨🇦 I have a select few number of open toe sandals. Birks are my go-to at the back door for garden or house chores.
I just wouldn't choose to wear heels - only on a rare occasion. And I would class espadrilles as a different category. 👍 But a few people have asked the same so I will probably do a summer shoe video too 👍
Love those knotted Dear Frances sandals. Also the Chanel ones and the Birkenstocks. All my sandals are a bit wrecked and I will probably be getting a new pair this summer.

Do your sandals clack a lot when you walk? I am hesitant to get slide sandals because of that.
They do make a slapping/clacking sound but I wouldn't have said it was loud or that it bothers me. I guess its inevitable when the shoe isn't attached secure at the heel.

The arch support sole in birkenstocks managed to rub my arch really bad :( idk it is such a disappointment, I have no idea if I’ll be able to wear them again. Even though , I usually get blisters after 5 minutes of wearing new summer shoes, with Birkenstocks it was like 10 minutes before my feet were destroyed :D I guess I’m going to live in trainers this summer as usual
I'm the same but I've found that I have to allow my feet to get callused, build up some thicker skin. I just put a preventative band-aid on the places where the shoe rubs and after a few wears I'm usually fine.
I find that Birkenstocks are awful for my arches. I felt horrible instant pain as soon as I put them on and took about 10 steps in my house D: I really wanted a pair to run around in but bloody hell did my arches hurt so back they went..
