  • BAGUIO CITY reminds us of EUROPE! 🇵🇭 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Welcome back to Baguio City! In our last episode, we had the pleasure of meeting some incredibly friendly Filipinos in this vibrant city and exploring its bustling hot spots in the centre. Today, we're taking our adventure a step further as we've decided to rent a scooter to uncover more of Baguio's top attractions, including stunning natural beauty at Camp John Hay's, tasty food, and a touch of tradition at the Mines View Observation Deck.
As always thank you so much for watching!

as a filipino, baguio is really a popular spot for locals because of the cooler weather. going here for the first time i felt like i wasn’t in the philippines at the same time i’m in the philippines lol

Baguio can get so cold to the point that farmers would sometimes struggle with keeping some vegetation alive because the plants would experience extreme frostbite. many vegetables form layers of ice, it can get really cold there

Agreeing with @paengsolo2047 Gets as low as 12 to 10 degrees Celsius by those months. Sometimes, we have ice rain/storms. In higher Cordillera mountains, it may drop til 8 degrees and some of our vegetable produces would be on a "frosbite" phrase.

*the development of Baguio by the Americans was driven by its favorable climate, strategic location, and the desire to establish a health resort and administrative center away from the tropical heat. To fully enjoy a day tour, start at dawn catching the Sunrise at Mines View Park after spending time there, walk or ride to the Mansion House and then go straight to the Wright Park then walk down into the Horse Riding area.. And then you can grab a coffee in the nearby cafes. If you're a catholic, you can drop by St Joseph Church near Wright Park and then walk down a bit and there's the Botanical Garden if you wish to enjoy a bit of flowers and a mix of Asian icons. After that you may opt to visit Johnhay or you can go to the Stone Kingdom or Visit Tam-awan village to understand more about the Cordilleran/Igorot Culture. Try local food at Farmer's Daughter near at Tam-awan is a must. Then you can head to the Dominican Hill and in the Mirador Hill in the afternoon for a stroll and hopefully catch a sea of clouds and Sunset. And finish your day with dinner and a little stroll at the Session Road or even Burnham Park. Rest of the tour is for another Day...

Sadly though, i heard that most of Baguio is now landslide prone both because of Climate Change and deforestation from all the development. It's just so different now from the Baguio of my childhood. It's full of buildings and structures now. :(

Hello Abby & Gaz my friend after your visit in Baguio City I highly recommend to proceed & explore Vigan City in Ilocos Sur. You can take bus or van from Baguio City going to Vigan City in Ilocos Sur.
BEST TOURIST SPOTS IN VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR (Check it out in TH-cam)
Vigan received a much-coveted recognition of being one of the six (6) UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Philippines and one of the New Seven Wonders Cities.
      1. Discover Calle Crisologo, is Vigan's most popular tourist attractions & is the highlight of Vigan City tour. It is a well preserved cobblestoned streets that lined with ancestral houses dating back the Spanish colonization of the Philippines in the 16th century. A kalesa ride is good for an hour & can take you around Calle Crisologo & the rest of Vigan Heritage Village including the Vigan Cathedral & Plaza Burgos.
      2. Visit National Museum of the Philippines. This is a series of museums adjacent to the Vigan Provincial Capitol & a treasure trove of memorabilia of two historical personalities: the martyr priest Padre Jose Burgos & former Philippine President Elpedio Quirino.
You can visit this by joining Vigan City tour.
      3. See the Bantay Church Bell Tower. Nothing else can give you the best view of Vigan than Bantay Church Be Tower. The belfry is situated on a hill
overlooking the Bantay district in northeast Vigan. The watchtower served as a good vantage point for the natives of Ilocos to see approaching enemies during the Spanish reign & World War II.
      4. Explore Plaza Burgos, located within a good walking distance from Plaza Salcedo, this plaza is named after Padre Jose Burgos, whose statue stands as a reminder of a priest's martyrdom in fighting Spanish regime.
      5. Visit Vigan Mansions & Museums.
If you want to know what its like to be an ilustrado, the class of educated Filipinos during the Spaniards reign, you need to visit the famous mansions-turned-museums of Vigan; Arce Mansion, Syquia Mansion & Crisologo Museum.
      6. See Animals at Baluarte Zoo. Not too far from the center of Vigan City, you'll find Baluarte Resort & Mini-Zoo sprawling on roughly 100 hectares of rolling plains & hills. The zoological park belongs to local politician Chavit Singson who use his property to share
his love for safari to the public.
      7. Ride a Zipline at Ilocos Sur Adventure Zone. There's a five storey platform that you need to climb up before making your way to the zipline, which is about 400 meters long.
      8. Take a Dip at Mindoro Beach. It is situated toward the west coast, it can be a good spot for watching sunsets.
      9. Watch the Dancing Fountain Show at Plaza Salcedo. The park between Vigan Cathedral & the Provincial Capitol turns from a haven for picture taking at day to a stage of dancing lights at night that everyone can enjoy for free.
      10. Learn About the Twin Bridge. Ilocos Sur's twin bridge, the Quirino Bridge and Banaoang Bridge, stand parallel to one another on a crossing along the grand Abra River.
      11. Visit the Pagburnayan Jar Factory. One good thing about touring Vigan is that you get to learn a lot about its history, culture & way of life through the town's homegrown establishments.

Camp John Hay is my partner and I's favorite destination in Baguio. We'll just bring snacks from the shops near the entrance and hang around Scout's Hill where there are tables you can rent for a few hours. There's also a cafe at the other end of Camp John Hay called Choco Late Batirol. They offer a nice twist to the usual hot choco and some Filipino snacks as well. Perfect for the cool weather in Baguio.
You are correct that the scenery in Baguio is not very common in most Filipino destinations. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other places with a lot of vegetation but only few with as many pine trees and cool weather. The Cemetery of Negativity is sort of like a parody and is not meant to be taken seriously at all.
Also, The Mansion is never open to the public for security purposes. You can only ever go to the gates like you did.
I know this is video is likely recorded weeks ago but if you guys happen to still be in Baguio and would like additional destinations, I recommend going to BenCab museum. It's a little away from the city proper but it's a nice museum that features many Filipino artists and their creations. Also, there's a tour called Pine City Fright Tour - I'm not gonna say much but it's worth it especially during the halloween season!

Damn, I miss Baguio! The weather certainly starts to get cooler this time of year. It'll progressively get colder as December approaches and will last through February. The food and bars - with their craft beers and live bands/folk singers - are what i miss most about the place. The botanical garden is worth a visit too. Really nice to see you both enjoying the city.

I hope you get to visit the rice terraces. Also a lot closer to metro Manila, Tagaytay city. There’s highlands. Also a volcano by the lake. Very very scenic. Also nicer weather cool and breezy.

The difference between Westerns and us Filipinos is that we want to experience the cool climate you guys have grown accustomed to. Now an average working-class Filipino might not get a chance to travel to countries with cooler climate given that the cost of travelling abroad is like a year or two’s worth of salary so the next best thing is Baguio on a December or January where it is coldest (for us at least 😂) and where we can escape the heat and humidity of Manila for a while. Its a good thing you guys visited Baguio at the right time because come December and January, Baguio is full of local tourists and traffic is absolutely horrendous. 😅
