I fixed my office doorknob after watching this video. Too bad I didn't watch this video before telling my wife I was going to call a friend and give him $20 to fix it. Could've avoided an unnessary argument. Lesson learned. Always try to fix something first before calling anyone else to do it for you! Thank you for this great video, sir!!!
Tearing what's left of my hair out trying to fix this sticky door knob. Sure didn't want to call a repair man. Ran across this video. Great explanation and it worked great! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m not sure why your “fix” worked for my problem, but it did! LOL We had some work done inside our home last month and the guys were in and out of the front door constantly, it seemed. And every time they would yank on the doorknob so hard I thought it was going to come out of the door! Now it had gotten to where we’ve barely been able to get the knob to open. It opens just fine now! Again, thank you very much!!
Your just what the doctor ordered. Fixed my problem also with WD40. I was about ready to go out and buy a new one until I ran across your video. Thanks for sharing.
Fixed my doorknob! Thank you so much! TH-cam is the greatest! I am such a visual learner. I have fixed so many things watching youtube during the stay at home! Appreciate you doing this video!
I guess I'll try and go and get some lubricant today. My main concern is getting the thing back together. I tried to put on a new doorknob at my previous house and it was a complete disaster.
Before disassembling the entire doorknob, I squirted some WD-40 into the door knobs on both sides plus into the latch, then turned both knobs several times to lubricate the inner mechanism. That seems to have fixed the problem. Wouldn't have thought to use the WD-40 without watching this video. Thanks!
Just did this and it worked great! I did cheat though and only unscrewed the screws a little bit and sprayed wd40 in the cracks around the handle then tightened the screws back up. It must have gotten where it needed to get to because it smooth as can be now. Thank you!!
I had problems with my latch and had to take it apart and rework some things but couldn't remember or make sense of how it went back together. I searched the internet specifically for the latch parts/repair for a while and everyone had info on replacing or fixing your lock but nothing on the latch repair --- that was frustrating. Your video has a latch that is almost a duplicate of mine and I was able to pause portions of your video to help identify where my latch parts should probably go. Although you didn't specifically solve my problem, your video/pics were very more helpful to me with fixing my latch than any other video. Thank you for the video.
Great video. And as Dmitry M put WD-40, however you did clearly mention it was not your lubrication of choice and that it may cause problems in the future. Such a great video. You saved me running to the store to just replace. I do have plenty of lube around the house that should work. Will probably use silicone lube. I've also subscribed and hope that you get to your thousand subs soon so that these great videos can make you money in more ways than one. :)
Adding dry lock to the list… as my duplex neighbors door sticks, their older, and they end up slamming door as well, shaking my house at all hours😂 (they have dogs they let out to potty) I’m thinking it’s also the latching tumbler part, but I’ll give it a once over and hope this fixes the issue with my lack of knowledge. But if I can fix their cabinets alignment and replace their sink faucets, I’m sure I’ll figure this out one way or another.
I hired a handyman and he spent 4 hours putting 2 doors and door handles on and it was only when he left I realised my door handle won’t turn or lock and the other won’t return. Useless for sure so I’ll fix it my dang self! Thanks for the information
Thanks. I like to use TH-cam to see what I'm getting myself into before starting projects. The WD40 did the trick and no my family can use the backdoor with ease! Most importantly my toddler who struggled to let our dog in and out.
Great video. I learned alot. I spend the whole day trying to find this info. Question : my Wieser front door lock has the same issue. It looks like the knob on the interior side of the door and the latch need to be replaced. Wondering if I can just buy these parts at the store or do I need to replace the entire lock set which include the fancy looking outside handle and the deadbolt.
I havr no fotks on my inner door knob but it will not slide together the outer knob. Therefore, it will not go flush with the door. I can not see anything blocking it, either. Tried for 2 hours.
My door just had huge block of ice form between handles so could not twist lock or turn handle to leave, had to drop handle chop out ice, put back together in -25F temps, fun fun...
Knob just needed oil- thanks for your tutorial! (Altho could NOT find my wd40, even tho i know i just saw it- used cooking spray instead 😜 worked great!)
My wife had done that in the past on hinges but it doesn't last. A small can of wd40 is only a couple bucks at the hardware store. It will last longer and you can use it for lots of other things.
Good video but the mechanism in my doorknob is different to yours and on the outside I have a thumb lever that goes up and down not a knob. Inside the inner door knob the mechanism rotates against a spring and looks like it is supposed to be stopped by two tabs but the mechanism skips over the tabs. I don't know if this is the problem. Any ideas?
I'm going to lose my mind... how do you fix this if the screws are on the side you are locked out of?! I have watched 10 videos and I wouldn't need the videos if there was a screw option 😢
Try squirting some wd40 in wherever you can to see if that frees things up. Are you sure the door isn't just locked from the other side? If it's a bedroom door it will have a little hole in it you can poke a coat hanger into and it will unlock
@@SevenFortyOne it’s unlocked (never was locked but the door van be unlocked from the outside with a butter knife). It does have the hole at the base of the knob but nothing happens when I try to stick something in it. It’s like blocked?

My kids and I took a sticky doorknob apart and loved following your video. Thank you!
Awesome!
good for you for teaching your children things like this

Tearing what's left of my hair out trying to fix this sticky door knob. Sure didn't want to call a repair man. Ran across this video. Great explanation and it worked great! Thank you!
Thanks you explained it well and fixed my problem. Was going to call someone in yo fix it but you help me to avoid any costs.
I've used WD-40 for years, and I spray all my doorknob mechanisms once per year. You explained it well.
Why wouldn't you just get some dry lubricant that's not oil based and you will only have to do it once?
@@trev119I wasn’t aware there was such thing as a dry lubricant. Do you have any recommendation for a product to use?
Yup, that's what mine needed, just a bit of oil. Thanks for the careful, detailed walk through the process, diagnosis and fix.

I love videos like this, very straight forward.
Thank you for your wisdom and time to make this video! You helped me save a door knob and money.
Thank you! I just now took my door apart and sprayed every part to be on the safe side. Lol! Works great.👍🏼
Very good video! It solved my sticky door knob. Thank you Sir!
Fixed the door, works perfectly. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for this easy-to-understand description. Hope it will help me fix my problem without needing to call in a pro.

Really good video. You are a good teacher.
Just finished fixing my problem after watching your video. Thank you!
Good video, just the right amount of detail....thx!
Thank you great video! Great editing music fast forward at just the right time!
A good fix, a few minutes and saved a lot of bucks.
Super helpful; very glad I found this video--thanks!
Thank you so much man! Subscribed and liked! This was the most simple fix I have ever done lol. I was apparently over thinking the hell out of this.
Cool, glad this helped!
This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much.
TY so much. This helped me fix my stuck door!
no longer being bested by my bathroom door, thanks man!
Thank you for the nice and easy tutorial.
You are welcome...glad this was useful for you
Thank u for your video. I've just fixed my doornob issue with your help. Cheers!

silicone? how did it go? ive heard the spray silicones get sticky/gunky over time. just used wd 40 seems to be working great now
Perfect & through. Turns out the stuck know just needed some oil 🎉 Easy fix
Great how to video! Thanks!!
Thank you so much for your video!
I did exactly as you showed and it worked like a charm 😁
Easy to follow, thank you.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the video sir fixed my problem 100%
So helpful, thank you!
I like the music when you removed the screws an put them back in!!!
Thank you so much. I finally learned how to change the door know :')
Thank you for this video!
Thank you! This did the trick
I seem to have this issue, but I cannot manage to get the door open to remove the strike plates.
Fixed my door problem, thanks!
Now ko lang nalaman to. Thank you.
I tried turning the knob a couple of times but still wont open. Is there a way you can fix it without opening?

I think you can buy the parts at a hardware store. Take a picture of yours and show them what you have and they may be able to help
I'm about to try this. I hope it works and I don't have a different problem.
Great video.
What to do if this happens and the door is already locked. Can the door still be opened?
exactly what the doctor ordered! 👍
Great video
I used a lubricant that contains powdered graphite. ("Blaster" graphite dry lubricant)
Thanks, gonna give it a go!
Thanks 😊
Sometimes just taking it apart and putting it back together fixes it too lol, but thanks for the video i will definitely be lubricating the doorknob
thanks so much very helpful
Thank you ❤
thanks so much, fixed my sticky latch.
Great video! Helped a lot !
Problem fixed, thanks a lot.👍
Very helpful,thank you.!!!!
So what happens if your door won’t open up I’ve taken both the handles off and I still cannot get the latch free
Maybe try to Use a flat head screwdriver to actuate the latch..hard to say without seeing it
Worked great! Thanks!
Thank you !! That really helped alot !! 😀
Thank you very much!

Can graphite be used ?
Yes
Thanks for going fast so I’m not screaming at the video saying ok ok hurry up!
My door just had huge block of ice form between handles so could not twist lock or turn handle to leave, had to drop handle chop out ice, put back together in -25F temps, fun fun...
Yikes! Glad you got it fixed
how can a doorknob that is too close to the frame causing your knuckles to scrape against the door frame when you turn the key, be corrected?
I'm not sure...maybe replace the knob with one that is sticks out from the door more and therefore has more clearance between the knob and frame...
thanks
Thank you for your video.
Thank you..it helps a lot
mine is new and doing that it worked fine for a week now it sticks I will try your idea if it sticks again I'm returning it to he store
Good luck, I hope it works out for you!
Why have the tapered part facing outside? Doesn’t that make it easier to break in
I don't think you'd be able to close the door without turning the knob to retract the latch if the tapered end faced inward.
woo hoo, I am trying this tonight on my sticky door knob!
My linen door will not open and the screws are inside. Is my only choice to drill through the door knob with a drill. I’m trying not to ruin the door.
If it's just a closet door you might be able to slip a credit card into where the latch catches on the door frame and get it to open
Knob just needed oil- thanks for your tutorial! (Altho could NOT find my wd40, even tho i know i just saw it- used cooking spray instead 😜 worked great!)
im locked insiode my room and cant get out right now
Ty ur awesome
Good job. You can fix just about anything with wd40 and duct tape.
Thanks helped a lot. However I use gun oil on everything instead of WD40.
Thanks! Fixed in a jiffy!
Literally just needed WD-40. Guess dad was right. Duct tape, WD-40 and a crowbar can fix alot 😂
Thank you I’ve just fixed my door know too.
Can I use a coconut oil or something? I don’t have Wd 40
My wife had done that in the past on hinges but it doesn't last. A small can of wd40 is only a couple bucks at the hardware store. It will last longer and you can use it for lots of other things.

fixed mine with your two cents worth but mine was a much older door knob assy

Isn't faster just to buy a new one? You had to take it off.
No. And that would be wasteful too.
