Horseradish is very easy to grow and gets huge!! We planted a root from the grocery store this spring and the leaves are thick and huge. It is hearty even in very cold climates and can be planted in the ground and left out all the time. Just harvest the root as needed and let it stay in place. I've seen cautions that it spreads and takes over so might plant it in a confined area.
I would LOVE to have fresh lemons. I'll probably give it a try next year. I should be able to bring in into the garage or the grow room over winter. (BAD BIRDS!!!)
My daughter and I made this a month ago….just NOW about to try it ….as I caught the crud/cold……we plan to dehydrate the solids and turning it into seasoning 🎉….no waste
Oh dear...sorry you're under the weather. As soon as I feel something coming on I do an extra shot of fire cider and start taking elderberry tincture. I hope you recoever quickly. I did freeze dry my last batch of leftover solids and powder. It's a very interesting seasoning. Enjoy!
Y'all are adorable taking a shot of this lol I kinda want to try this - I know my son would be into it. He loves apple cider vinegar haha He's a strange kid :)
It really is a 'kick' at first, but we both really enjoy it. I have a shot every morning and if I feel like I might be getting sick I do 2-3 shots/day. I just made a batch that included cranberries. I'm anxious to try all kinds of slight flavor variations. I hope you and your son enjoy it.
I made your recipe today! We’ve been making fire cider for years, but never included citrus or elderberry… just all the harsher flavors! I’m curious to see if we enjoy this more. Our regular recipe works wonders on fighting off sickness, but definitely hard to get down. 😝
I did show how I started elderberries in this video...at 1:30. th-cam.com/video/CuAbvm9I48Q/w-d-xo.html. Since then I've discovered that the best way to propagate elderberries is simply to prune and put pieces of the branches directly into the ground. If you keep them watered they almost always root. I was shocked at how easy it was. We now have an entire row of elderberries all from the 3 original plants. As for Ginger, I also show planting it in the same video..at 5:40. It worked. I had a great ginger harvest this fall. The only mistake I made was planting it out in the high tunnel a little too early. It got a bit of a shock with a cold night and while it recovered, it was definitely stunted. I'll be doing Ginger and Tumeric again this spring and will probably do a video showing the progress all through the season. I failed at Tumeric last year, but hopefully this year will be better. Thanks for watching.
Great vid, never heard of this, around here in n.e. Texas its honey whiskey and vinegar for colds, patriot nurse has a mix but cant remember what was in hers, Merry Christmas
I (Brenda) do a shot every morning with breakfast, but Donny isn't as 'devoted'. He will do it if he feels sick at all, but I want to be consistent to see if there is any noticible result. Interestingly, two weeks ago, he got a REALLY bad cold and I didn't get it. Maybe conincidence, but maybe fire cider??? I ususally do have something to drink after the shot. (often milk kefir) Some batches have turned out a lot hotter than others. (mostly due to the differences in jalapenos) Did you put honey in it? Maybe more honey would make it easier for you?
I made a batch of Fire Cider a few months ago & couldn’t find horseradish at the time. Finally added prepared horseradish and there’s no heat at all. I think my hot peppers were duds, too. Now I have some fresh horseradish root and want to have another go. Here’s my question- is there any reason why I can’t use the finished product from the first try as part of the ACV that I cover the fruits, herbs, & veggies with this time? It’s had honey added, but is that a problem?
I really don't know. I'm very new to all of this. If you belong to any herbal medicine groups, that would be a great question for them. Sorry I don't have an answer. Let me know what you do and how it works out.
I don't know. It might be worth checking with your Dr before trying it. The spices would be a concern and maybe even the vinegar itself??? Definitely worth being extra cautious.
I've just started making my own vinegar, but usually use this one on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BT2MYG3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got the large jar on Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GX56MX3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I love using those flip top jars because they seal so well.
TH-cam channel, Lazy Dog farm , has a great video and great success growing turmeric. They also sell what they grow. Hope this helps. I'll be trying some of this, thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to give it a try.
I love your videos and look forward to them, but I do have one complaint….. I wish they were longer ❤️✌️🤷♀️🙏 😜
Thanks for the kind words. Who knows.....maybe some of the videos in the future will be longer??? 😁
It is so pretty. I grew a lemon tree in a container this year. Got 5 lemons. The birds got 10. It needs to be protected from freezing.

@ thank you for that ❣️
I love your videos and your farm! I love watching your content. I'm going to give fire cider a try!
We're glad you enjoy the videos. Several of our grandkids have been sick lately so we will find out just how good it is. (fingers crossed)

if you like spicey you can dehydrate the scraps, make a powder and add to your soups, marinades or whatever you like.
I did actually freeze dry the scraps and powdered it. It is very spicy....and fruity. It's a unique blend, but we're enjoying it. Thanks For watching.
Im so glad I found your channel!!!! Thank you
So glad you found us....welcome to the farm.
I blend the leftover vegetables and add more vinegar onions garlic, and make a second batch
Hmmm....I may have to try that. Is there enough medicinal value in all of the other ingredients after the first batch?
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 yes,it's even stronger, or you can dehydrate them and make a seasonings
Would LOVE to try this!❤
Hi there! Go for it.... You won't regret it. 😁
If you took the fire cider ‘left overs’ and put them thru a potato ricer or a food mill …you would get more cider..🤗
I never thought of that. Thanks for the great idea! I'll definitely do that next time.

You'll definitely like it better with the citric and elderberries. It mellows out the harsher flavors. A little honey also helps. Enjoy!
@ You’re right, it’s better! And I did add some of our honey. :)
I’ve got cranberries in the freezer. Could use those.
I did a batch with cranberries and I LOVED it!
I will be making this tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
Enjoy!
Love watching your videos thank you. Would like to see how you grow your ginger and elderberries.

Merry Christmas!
You two are amazing!
Hmmm....do you mean amazing, or possibly just a little bit crazy. 😉 LOL
Wonderful. Share it next year earlier.
It's definitely handy to have around over the winter months. We'll know by spring how much it helps. :)
Really enjoyed your videos!
Awesome, thank you!
So we made it, but I can barely get it down. I need a chaser for sure! Are you each taking a whole shot of this every day?
I (Brenda) do a shot every morning with breakfast, but Donny isn't as 'devoted'. He will do it if he feels sick at all, but I want to be consistent to see if there is any noticible result. I like a shot of fire cider with my kombucha. I also add it to my green juice.
We purchased some from Baker Creek's store in MO and it has maple syrup and honey in it. That might help!! Keep adding until it is doable.
Azure standard would have turmeric root.
Thanks, I do purchase from them. I'll keep that in mind for my next order.

I’ve been wanting to make this but I wonder with all the spice in it would it hurt my stomach due to IBS ?
I don't know. It might be worth checking with your Dr before trying it. The spices would be a concern and maybe even the vinegar itself??? Definitely worth being extra cautious.
Do you take a shot every day?
Yes, a shot every morning. If I feel like I might be coming down with something I'll take an extra one or two throughout the day
Where do you find your vinegar? I would love to try this. thank you!

@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 oh how I agree!! I love the Fire Cider and many other herbs, tinctures, etc... thanks again and blessings ❤️

Thank you! I'll definitely check out that video and hopefully be able to grow some next year. Have a great Holiday!
Pretty lady.
@@louannhuber2651 Yes, this Don, I agree 100%!
TURMERIC !
It's definitely an important ingredient.
Too bad we don't learn this when we are younger.
Yes, there are many things I wish I had learned when I was younger.....I guess better late than never.
Interesting combination, might give it a go soon. 🍊🌶🧅🍋🧄🫐
It's fine trying slightly different variations. I'm adding cranberries to my next batch. 🙂
