    Mr. Kerry2Smoothe thank you sir, I had a plateu of what sounds I can make on a guitar, and my understanding was not increasing. But somehow (which is nothing short of devine intervention) I found your channel sir and it has been a true blessing, because I really love this instrument but no one could explain it to me for the genre of music I wanted to play. So I learned all the pre requisites of learners with the instrument but still I could not put the peices together. Now my journey has been re-invigorated, learning all the chords from your website and TH-cam videos is a task but I can literally see and hear the progress my wife as well. So from one brother to another thank you man. I am taking my time and making it digestible and I constantly slow down your videos so I can keep up but you are the teacher after my own heart.

    Just re-watched this. Now that I am more familiar with the different chord types (ie voicing) and stating to grasp the number system better, this lesson is a great one to practice and help me re-enforce the system.

    Great video. From a player to player this is The Key of A minor which is also the relative key of C major depending on where you resolve to. Hope this helps. The keys that you calling major keys are really minor keys. Minor keys have a sad sound, Major keys has a Happy sound. From a player and music teacher that has been playing for over 45 years. Keep on sharing there was no videos when I started out playing. Lol.

      Marcus Graham There are 7 chords in The minor keys and there are 7 chords in the major keys. The first chord of each key sets the tone. You must have key chart that displays this to see the visual. There are five accidentals also the makes up for the total of 12 musical notes. This is the foundation of the music that is hidden and not displayed to a people who want to know. Don’t just get a teacher but get a good teacher who can teach what your missing. Note this is a closely guarded secret in some cases🎸🎸🎸😎

    brilliant, very clear explanation and inspiring. Could you in another video of this type go further and explain how or where you use in progression or chord charts diminished chords? I saw here you used the 2b diminished chord. Thank you.

    How do you know if a number in the progression is associated with minor, major, or 7th or whatever chord type?

    • @thomasknight2863
      @thomasknight2863 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You count the chords as you play them, for example Cmajor is 1, Dminor, would be 2,Eminor would be 3, FMajor would be 4, Gdominant7 would be 5, Aminor, would be 6, & B Half-Diminished,or Bminor7flat5 would7. When learning the numbers systems all you have to do my friend is count the chords as you play them like the scale. If you understand how to play scales and how they work,the numbers systems is the same way.

    It seems like most R&B uses the 2,3,6 minor and 4 major - but not so much 1 and 5. Where does that come from in theory?

  • @shabaq7077
    @shabaq7077 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 7 supposed to be diminished and not minor?

    • @andrewtoebbe3885
      @andrewtoebbe3885 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      if you are writing in a major key you would be correct...if ur 1 is a minor key, your m7 chord is a dom7 chord and words as a great major chord in progressions....in minor key your diminished chord is ur 2 chord.

    The C# Diminished which place has in the number system?

    • @Vintagestep
      @Vintagestep 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      #I if you are going y to D minor or bII if you're coming from D minor to C major if i remember correctly.

    • @Heybuditsme
      @Heybuditsme 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not in the key... It leads nicely down to C though. Throwing in A major also resolves C# down to C but C# dim also resolves Bb up.
      (Also Db7 is a tritone substitution which resolves Db and Ab down a step to C and G. Great ways to get back to the 1)

    Great stuff! I only wish you slow down and show us the actual chords (chart) I know you’re not catering to beginners. Or at least ring out the notes slower so it gives us time to figure out the shape. Thanks!
