This was basically a free 30 minute class from Gordon. Amazing.
@MdoubleHBxur on drugs he won that shit 4 times 😂
yet you are giving him your mind rent free writing 4 seething comments, go to the gym lil guy @MdoubleHBx
@MdoubleHBx He is the strongest man on Earth. He won that title recently.
@MdoubleHBxhe won those 4 titles whilst being drug tested.
juiced to the gills
It should be illegal to teach a man the size of Brian Shaw these techniques 😳😳😳
Dude is huge. Probably the biggest all round guy on planet earth.
I disagree, Brian is a sheep dog. We need people like him learning stuff like this.
@warrengeew The 2005 version of Big Show would make Brian look small, which is scary!
@@samluke8121 And a healthy Andre The Giant
@samluke8121 Yepp, big show was 508lbs jumping from the top rope, dude was way to agile for his size, but he could lift anyone very easily and throw them
Gordon is a really good coach. No ego - explaining things well, and makes the student feel comfortable and informed. I would love to learn from him as im sure many would.
Right people accuse him of being aspergers because of his arrogance, but I think that's just people are envious and jealous of him because of his greatness + arrogance sure. But what do you expect with someone who wins as often as he does and is on all kinds of PEDs.
The fact he is showing humility here and the passion for the game you can see makes him likable here though. Hard to tell how much of a personality in the media is just an act though, plenty of people act for the camera. But this seems to be the genuine him?
thats because his coach and mentor is the great John Danaher
He's all ego
@@KZ_MMA_true, but he wasnt using it in this session he was quite patient and let Brian control the pace. I think people learn the best like that.
come to renzo gracie gym. you got john Danaher there too.
Brian is so genuine, I could watch him take a knitting class and know I'm seeing him try his best. It's awesome watching the start of this journey and going along for the ride.
Brian truly is a gentleman
...now i really wanna see him learn to knit a sweater
Dude! Well said!
I feel like a lot of people will watch this and think “wow they only did like two moves the whole time” but the level of detail and the tiny things he’s covering… truly make a world of difference on execution and effectiveness of these moves. It’s honestly a very high level lesson on two of the most basic movements for BJJ
Brian’s signature submission is just laying on top of them and crushing them😂
Bjj is just incredibly gey
facts
Dude theres like a dozen things going on here lol
The ppl who dont understand this . Dunno Gordon is the baddest man on the planet when it comes to BJJ .
Brian is doing side quests at this point, and I'm all for it
I think this is the next main quest
Speedrunning 100% master difficulty
yes because he became a god by only doing the main quest
@@deadnan5224do you really think he will invest deep into this? For years? I feel like he might spend like 6-8 months on it or something for one fight, but if he sinks his teeth into this new sport that would be sick!
@@deadnan5224do you really think he will invest deep into this? For years? I feel like he might spend like 6-8 months on it or something for one fight, but if he sinks his teeth into this new sport that would be sick!
I think a good measure is when Gordon says "Dan is ridiculously strong, like 4 times stronger than anyone else" and then Dan going "Yea thats never happening" at 21:20 is an terrifying realization of how strong Brian is. Its not just weight and strength, its balance and technique that he got in a single session. Something that really stands out is that Brian as a beginner is very careful against his opponent. My experience is that people who are new usually go a little to far rather than a little less but Brian is the opposite.
Now imagine if Brian went all out with his 390+ pounds. Just the thought of having that weight FIGHTING you to stay on top of your chest gives me shivers. Thats like being squished by two fridges that try to put you in a submission hold while someone is occasionally slamming a sledge hammer in your face any time you get them up a bit.
Mad props to Gordon for showing this detail and technique! So much info in this episode alone!
This is amazing content! Cant wait to see more!
@@metaphysicalphilosopher2356bro what do you not see how easily they sweep him despite his weight
@@ab-mc3sbthat’s because Brian is trying to use technique.
If Brian has his arms around there heads all he has to to do is squeeze.
How many times did Dan tap from Brian just trying to figure out placement in the head triangle?
They are better from the technical aspect , if Brian gets ahold of there heads in any capacity all he has to do is squeeze and it’s over .
These people are the best in the world, they can hurt him easily with leglocks, heel hooks, etc. @@metaphysicalphilosopher2356
juiced to the gills
@@kevinkohoutek995 they are also using technique and not strengh. Brian would never be able to get his arms around their heads. I hope you mean neck by saying head because otherwise you have no clue what you are talking about
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about jiu jitsu, it is absolutely fascinating listening to Gordon Ryan explain mechanics and it's clear from how easily and clearly he teaches it that he deeply, fundamentally understands his sport
Now just think, there are hundreds of techniques that can be broken down into thousands of variations and thousands of little tricks about the mechanics of each of those variations. If you were fascinated by Gordon teaching maybe you should give BJJ a go :)
As someone who knows absolutely nothing about jiu jitsu, it looks like a bunch of rape techniques.
He’s been training under John Danaher his whole career who is one of the best teachers of all time
Brian js so conscious of his strength and size, he genuinely never wants to put anyone in any danger and wants to use the techniques here without brute forcing. What a cool guy!!
His wife is like 1/3 his size so he clearly had to learn how not to absolutely crush her😂
I think that there is no martial art that can old such force if he goes all in
Dude is a legit gentle giant
For real. Dude’s strength is overwhelming. He absolutely does have to use restraint when he has control and has to be aware and slow and deliberate getting started, because most injuries come from noobs going too hard and making mistakes. Brian is too calculated for that. He will slowly master piece by piece all the fundamentals and will be crazy technical through this process. Then… when he learns all that control, that strength will be put to some very good use. For sure.
Just imagine his mma debute where he doesn't hold back his strength at all 😯
I can't imagine a better Jiu-jitsu trainer than Gordon. But just imagine Brian Shaw, at 6'8" and around 350 pounds, doing MMA. That is *terrifying* to think about.
Terrifying for 1 round then the gas tank is empty. He's not conditioned for MMA
@@TimmyTurner421 yeah but he only needs to get a hold of you for the 1 round. dudes throwing sledgehammers for fists
@@TimmyTurner421it'll be a fun round

@@TimmyTurner421the fight isn’t until next year though so he has plenty of time to slim down and develop his conditioning
Dan was so great in this. He's just like "I am 270lbs and I've never been lifted like this" and it's such a great comparison and SO SCARY lol
He should have tried Karelin
25:43 “oh my God! OK, please don’t slam me!” 🤣😂The innocently, hopeful terror in this beastly killer man’s voice as this rhino lifts him up is insane lol. Such a fun video. Strength vs technique. Technique has a solid chance to win but strength+technique you got no chance. Brian seems like a gentle giant and a great guy. These guys are all class acts! Gordon is such a Jedi master.
Poor Dan. Having a bagillion lbs of Brian on him, pushing and pulling. OUCH!
Im loving this. Seeing someone who was SO SO dominate in one area .. learn something that is so not the same. This is a real treat.
Now he knows how other people feel.
He loves it!
Completely agree! That said, Brian will have transferable skills - he’ll know his body and how to use it
Imagine that it was YOU. The "treat" would be more vivid
Jiu jitsu is so humbling, can you imagine Brain Shaw once he gets good at Jiu jitsu..... that's scary. He's the strongest man in the world. Mad respect
He doesn't need jitsu to be scary.
@@mohammadmehmood3405nothing scary in this teddy bear

Now I'm binging your videos because I realize I am a fan of your humility and how you carry yourself like a warrior and a gentleman. I know youre gonna be successful into your MMA journey and get to a healthy weight for your frame. Massive respect!!
Loved the explanations and demonstrations by Gordan and how well Brian was applying them on Dan. This is such an amazing pairing. I hope we get treated to many more of these videos with this group. No one better to train Brian in Jiujitsu than Gordon along with Dan.
I couldn't imagine the pressure Brian could create with a year of solid training
The way "Big" Dan reacted. Im sure he won't need help in the pressure department. Leg locks, and foot work for striking probably different story though.
This was my main thought. If he learned a crushing game, it'd be absolutely brutal.
@@NeillWylie Thing is if he took it serious he would lose lots of size so he would not remain who he is. Ppl think shaw can stay 450lbs and train bjj seriously at the same time lol. He would lose 100lbs like Thor did for boxing
If he just learned how to do a take down. He could and anyone. If he gets you down and is on top and lands a few strikes or elbows. Holy crap. Still though Gordon Ryan today could submit Brian very easily even if Brian got on top probably. Definitely needs training but damn imagine getting hit by one of those elbows when Brian is on top.
@@REXAZORnah he could keep the same size if he wanted to, but losing weight would probably be good for BJJ anyways
I know Joe Rogan is going to want Brian on the podcast now. Getting a world class strongman and arguably GOAT to talk about what its like to jump into MMA as a novice is something i want to see them talk about.
He actually talked about Shaw a while ago saying if he trained and got good, he'd be the scariest man on the planet lol
Also, Shaw said he has been in talks with Joe and its just a scheduling issue now. It going to happen.
He likes it because it's basically a bear doing Jiu jitsu, lol
And that's 2 of JR's fave things
Oh your probably right! Finally, ive been wanting to hear these guys
He might be on the podcast this week while he's down in texas...
how can you not love this guy, bro is so careful and kind to everyone around him. Gentle giant.
25:58 Brian did great but that is the most impressive part of the video

It's so hard to pick up on how to move when you're just being told. The second you're shown, it clicks so much better. Watching Brian go through it reminded me so much of my first classes. I was so lost trying to follow instructions or trying to picture things as they were happening instead of being able to watch it.
A lot of it is also terminology. Mount, side mount, arm bar, etc. if you don’t know the words, it gets even tougher to learn.
Same, my 1st class I was so nervous to say I was Lost but my instructor was so happy that I said something to make sure I was getting the minutae of everything instead of just saying "oh yea I got it"
Man Brian brings such a positive energy and outlook to whatever he does.
man... a private with GR seems to be an priceless experience. The amount of knowledge he drops without caring of reveal his secrets is amazing. Respect growing and growing and growing with more I know about him.
Every time it shows how guys built like Brian and Thor are huge, even compared with big guys like Gordon Ryan, it just keeps me in complete awe.
Lol I met Eddie and Mark Felixs during Eddie's "slim" stage and they were both HUGE
@@Lee-ic2yn I really bet. I know a guy built like Eddie, actually almost his height 6ft 2,5 inches, 130kg (barely 290 pounds).
Those types already show you the meaning of a real big guy.
But Brian and Thor, both standing at 6ft8inches and 6ft9inches, weighing about 170kg and 160kg.
Those guys are something else, literally a different breed.
@Akillyzz Brian is closer to 6'6...just look at him next to Eddie hall or even here Ryan gordon...he isn't 6 inches taller than them. Maybe 4 inches taller at best. Thor is closer to 6'7.5
Growing up as a Strongman fan I got to go to a lot of events and met a lot of cool Strongmen, but by far the three biggest I've met in person was Brian Shaw, Robert Oberst, and Konstantine Janashia at the Arnolds. I did meet Nathan Jones who is a former strongman/wrestler right before he went to the WWE and he's 6'11. He's by far the tallest dude I ever met, but as far as sheer size and mass goes it's probably Brian lol. Nathan was by no means a slouch though at 6'11 and like 325lbs and jacked to the gills.
225 isn’t really that big
6’2” never looked so short.
i thought the opposite. i thought hed look wY smaller next to 6'8
i think gordon is more like 6 1
Gordon is 6'1 & Shaw is 6'6 (he's shrunk a bit in recent years)
Considering that shaw is a giant at 6'7, 6'8,
@@etrephesmBrian is not 6'8 he's 6'6. Gordon isn't even a legit 6'2 he's more 6'1 and didn't look much shorter.
Fantastic stuff, Brian. I’m lovin it. You have amazing potential in this new sport for you. You are a sponge and for a man your size, your mobility and quickness and ability to move the way you do is such an asset. You will get very good at this if you continue on. Impressive. I can’t wait to see what is next.
This is awesome. Saw Brian’s first roll with Ryan. I think it was a sweep/tap contest.
Awesome to see he saw how much he didnt know, and decided to pull the trigger and learn it. He was humble on the first roll, and is humble now. Seems to be an awesome dude.
Crazy to think there are people who can actually move a 400lb insanely strong man off of them. His shear weight/mass alone would probably crush most people.
That is a world we live in. We gotta learn how to manage against people like him. So off us choose to learn and some of us choose not to.
If Shaw can get agile enough to roll proficiently and can avoid injury, this is going to be epic. You know he’s going to put the time in, and you know he has the technical brain to understand and execute complex and dynamic movements..If he can get that giant body of muscle to react fast enough …. Human weapon
@MdoubleHBx hopefully yours is even shorter
@MdoubleHBx I can't imagine being a straight edge loser and never doing any drugs
@MdoubleHBx aww poor child, come hang out, I'll show you how to party
@MdoubleHBx prove it
Brian is now in his 40s, when you start getting older the body just doesn't recover quite as well from intense training as it did in your 20s, early 30s, etc. BJJ itself is very tough on the body and puts you at a high risk of injury, especially in the fingers and hands, spine/neck, knees, etc.
Hope to see more of this! Good stuff!
Excelent video!! very fun to watch Brian. Keep it up!
As a former Judo practitioner, who now lift occasionally and exercise occasionally due to work.
This is entertaining, informative and motivational.
Always love to see Brian learn just as much as he dominates.
Let's not compare you to anyone on this video.
As a new practitioner myself, this is really exciting to see from you!! Love the humility, Brian! Stay hungry and humble! World strongest grappler has a DAMN GOOD ring to it!
Congrats Shaw I'm super excited to go on this journey with you and watch how fast and well you do with this new challenge. Proud of you 👏.
I love how dedicated Brian is and asking questions to absorb all the knowledge he can. So diligent in training and getting good at all the minor details.
A pissed off Brian Shaw is something to be frightened about.
That’s one reason guns where invented for.
Brian’s signature submission is just laying on top of them and crushing them😂
but with leverage, leveraged crushing is annoying AF
Wow Brian. So crazy to step outside of your area of expertise and try something thatbis so intense. Inspiring as always. Thanks.
Love this video!! Brian is such a nice dude, and Gordons details are insane just watching this video gave me answers to some questions I had
These details are absolutely phenomenal! This is one of the best 30 minute instructionals I've ever seen.
I think this is a win for Brian and a win for Gordon and the boys. The strength and the size helps them to be better and lets Brian learn from experienced BJJ guys.
Great video and great chemistry between you lads on the mat. Enjoyed the content 👍
Such a good video. Great job finding the best of the best!!
One of the things about Jiu-Jitsu that is beneficial to everyone is getting used to getting into uncomfortable positions.
Teaches us that with education, practice and planning for those tough spots in life, that there's a way to escape it or possibly reverse into an advantage.
Glad to see you taking it up Big B!
Im in uncomfortable positions all the time with my uncle, he says i deserve it.
@@Sulamanjansulttaani you do if your here complaining
The fact Gordon was able to carry brians weight and still give a well spoken instructional was wild to watch.

Brian I’m so exited by this new direction. I’m with you all the way brother. Tuning in every chance I get and just waiting for the next update. So proud to even watch this new journey.
lmao proud to watch pathetic skills
So awesome guys, thanks for sharing!
Because of the physical attributes of Shaw, he's able to utilize movements with a completely different efficiency, both positively and negatively. Will be interesting to see how good he'll become
I love how Eddie put out a video learning jiu-jitsu from Tom Aspinall, than Brian, one ups him learning it from Gordon Ryan😂
Watching Brian being a complete novice at something and being coached by the absolute best is amazing.
I can't wait to see brian dominate super heavy weights all over the world. He puts his all into everything he does, and he doesn't move like a 400lb man. This is going to be fun to watch.
C'mon he's not gonna be doing this full time. It's a Qatar money cash grab. Have you not heard about the tournament in February? He's fighting Martyn Ford for millions of dollars. He'll then quit & pursue something else
He defo moves like a 440lbs giant.
He's not gonna dominate squat. This is just a cash grab, just like Eddie did with his boxing charade. Where do you think Brian got this idea?
@gretapunberg7052 that is true, but hopefully he keeps up with the training.
He moves much better than Hathor
Brian, keep it strong and best of lucks in this new journey 💪
I just figured out what I’ve been doing wrong in my transition from half guard to mount for the past 6 months after watching this video. Thank you guys for an awesome video love to see these collaborations!
Shit did this really help you?
You're not the world's strongest man?
so much fun to watch!! been waiting on this collab
Watching this reminds me of when I was about 14 years old and was grappling with my cousin and uncle. Was mainly just showing them some easy BJJ submissions. I had my uncle in an arm bar and he said “but what if I do this?” and then proceeded to lift me up with one arm like it was nothing.
He’s “only” 6’4” but genuinely has the widest/ thickest frame out of anyone I’ve ever met/ rolled with to this day. He’s pretty lean, over 300 lbs, has wrists thicker than most peoples arms, and his fists look like literal hams. Just insane genetics/ bone structure. His son was pushing 200 lbs at 12 y/o just to give you an idea. I can only imagine what meeting/ rolling with Brain Shaw is like in real life!!!! I would love to meet him or Thor in person someday just to truly grasp how massive humans can be!!
I am a huge fan of Gordon before I seen this collab. Now my favorite jiu-jitsu practioner is teaching the GOAT of strongman. These are the days I am thankful for social media.
45 years teaching combatives to a variety of personnel. Working vertical grappling and striking against multiple attackers to secure a dominant position within the tactical arena necessitates a comprehensive understanding of fulcrums and levers combined with anatomical structure to maximize dominant results. Gordon, your understanding of that, and your ability to convey it in a no nonsense, easy to understand format is second to none. This is the first time I have watched one of your videos. What a class! I am a fan.
Great content! Please more :)

Gordon is crazy good coach and willing to share his knowledge maximum respect for that
You're an inspiration Shaw, thanks man

Crazy thing is Brain is holding himself back even more then he knows. Dude is possible of so much force that if he has the legit mobility he can dominate anybody on the mats with enough time in the game. Excited to see whatever this man does. He was robbed from World strongest man once they went more agility then strength. Brain will be the best he can be at anything he does! Truly scary to see the development of this new path.

People really underestimate just how gifted you have to be to get to the pro level in the NFL, and never mind making it to a starting roster, or even a bench player.
Brock Lesnar tried years ago to make it as a Linebacker on to the Vikings, and he didn't make it past the practice squad. And he's way more agile, quick, and explosive than Brian is. So while it's fun to think about, there's a reason why less-than-one percent of all the football players in the US ever make it on to an NFL roster.
what your asking here is murder...
