Wonderful analysis and breakdown of the most amazing comeback I have seen in PB! Thank you Ed , for such a detailed and knowledgeable play-by-play explanation of what was going on. I learned so much from your explanation. Please do more of these types of PB videos. Thank you!
Ben always says he doesn't like to play against amateurs because of wild/aka poor technique and random uncontrolled smashes, and while JW and Augie are by no means in that category they do play drastically different than the Johns both here and historically. What stands out to me in this match and even in your own analysis is that Auggie and JW play with the surprise factor and imperceptable fashion which then causes both Johns to hit less quality or at least less dominant shots on firefight returns. I have always said accurate surprise will win every time over near flawless technique...and this last point illustrates that. Augie and JW hit and position themselves like nobody really teaches in the gazillions of pickleball videos crowding the internet, crowding the popular courts, crowding pickleball as a whole. When you hit with unpredictability to your opponent that can throw off their return shot and the give advantage for the upcoming sequence(s) respectively. Yes it demands a lot and i see why people don't teach this, but it beat the Johns and it'll win again with the effort and skill people put into it.
Ed, I have to respectfully disagree. This comeback was not as epic for me as Ben John’s and Anna Leigh in Orange County. In this comeback JW and Ge actually lost more points than they won, but ended up winning due to the scoring freeze. I think to qualify and a great comeback you just have pound out a whole series of points to take the heart out of your opponent. These seemed more like a situation where they lost all the battles, but won the war.
great analysis but what some of us need to know are the grip handles used by these players for specific shots/drops. If you provide this information then your analysis would be complete.
I liked this kind of video where you analyzed a point. I learned a lot from this video👍 but I do have a question: are we able to watch these matches on TH-cam, or how would I be able to watch this match live?
