    Interesting option! Sounds like you get a few minor improvements. However for anyone considering this over a pre-built Legion 7/7i slim model, I priced out the ThinkPad 16p on the Lenovo Canada website and it’s quite a bit more expensive. A pre-built Legion slim 7i with i7, 4060, and 1Tb SSD, can be had for $1500-$1700 CAD (or less for the AMD option). The ThinkPad 16p is a “build your PC” type. To bring it up to the same specs, it comes out to $2060 including coupons. And that’s if you go with the default display, which looks to have inferior specs (lower nits, refresh rate not even listed) to the one that comes default with the legion 7/7i slim models.
    I guess a more apples-to-apples comparison would be with a “build your PC” variant of the Legion 7i slim, same specs but both monitors upgraded. If you’re doing this, then the ThinkPad comes out $80 cheaper. But really the only reason to go this route is if you needed that higher res monitor which doesn’t come as an option with any pre-builts. But then you’d be paying $500 more for a monitor that has some perceivable improvements for content-creators, but some major tradeoffs for gamers.
    Maybe the build-your-own options were a cheaper when this vid was made, but they’re a lot more expensive now AFAICT.

    Awesome review. I was considering he Slim Pro 9i until it went out of stock, then I was looking a the legion slim 7i, until I found this thinkbook. I use it for office work but also graphic design. it arrives soon, very excited. Also congratulations you are the first (north American) review I have seen on You Tube for this laptop. Great job.

    I'm waiting anxiously for the follow up with comparison between Thinkbook 16p gen 4 vs Legion Slim 7i gen 8 - I'm considering right now to get one of them to be my everyday workhorse. Unfortunetly there is only one Slim 7 config in my region available to buy - with 240Hz 1600p screen, i7 and 4060 - if that would be with the 165Hz 2000p screen, I would buy right away. TB 16p seems to be nice - in my region is available (on inquiry...) with i9 and the 165Hz screen. After your TB 16p review I found just one drawback - 2242 m.2 slot.

    I've recently bought exactly this model for my GF as a birthday gift. I've picked this one only from looking at the spec sheet from seller's webshop (which is never a good idea). So I decided to search for some reviews to check what I actually bought. I must say, I'm quite impressed! Great review, appreciate the new conclusions & summary chapter! Funny that you say "if you are considering the Legion pro 5i, don't buy it", because my situation is that this would be my dream laptop. I even ordered it (to be precise, the Slim 7), but it came with two different defects and I had to return it after 2 days. And the whole return process somehow took 1.5 months! 10+ phone calls and 20+ emails and lenovo support showcased complete inability at every single step of the process. I'm considering the Pro 5i just because a 3rd party reseller currently has a deal on it (1300 EUR for 13500HX, 4060, 32GB, 1TB, 500nit 240Hz screen, Windows). So its not only 200 EUR cheaper than the same Thinkbook 16p / Slim 7 config, but more importantly, dealing with potential return is way less hassle and time, and I want to have a gaming laptop by Christmas. So is the Pro 5i that much worse, even in this case?

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Than this? The 5i is fine. Just less premium.
      Aka plastic trackpad, not as nice keyboard. Not as nice screen. Worse speakers. But gaming performance will be the same
      If the price is the same get the Thinkbook. If big price gap get the legion 5/5i

    Great review. For those of us who have sensitive eyes, do you know if the 3.2k screen utilizes PWM? I know that IPS panels generally don't have PWM but in the past Lenovo has implemented it in their IPS panels. I'd love to get the 3.2k screen but I'm only able to test out the 2.5k version at my local store. If you could test it for us it'd be awesome.

    Hi,
    nice test! I have noticed that there is one version of this laptop named 'ThinkBook 16p G4' and one 'ThinkBook 16p G4 IRH'. What is the difference and what does IRH stand for?
    Another question is, how hot does the part of the notebook get where the palm of the hands rest. I read its getting hot even while doing office work or programming. What is you expercience after your three weeks?
    Thanks for the great test. Im looking forward to the comparisson between the Thinkbook and the Legion 7 / 7i. Would be nice to have them befor the Black Friday sale at Lenovo ends, becaus I can not decide which one to get. During the day I would do progamming and gaming during the afternoon or week end .

I can get this laptop now for around 1600eu - I'd rather get the legion slim 7 AMD but it has been out of stock for a while (and I doubt they're gonna restock it at all honestly since the new lineup is coming up). Do you think it's a good buy at that price? How's the battery life (I'd be getting the i7)? I can hardly find any info online on it. Also, it looks like the gen5 with the much more efficient intel chips is around the corner...

    Hey man great video! I had a question hoping you can help!! Trying to decide between the Legion Slim 7i and the Thinkbook 16p G4 (the one in your video). The Slim 7i right now doesn't allow you to "build your own", so it only has the 1600p screen. I would be using the laptop for content creation (video editing, photoshop), so I think the 3.2k screen in the Thinkbook would be better. However, Thinkbook only has 80WH battery, Legion 99.9WH. How is the battery life on the Thinkbook vs the Legion? Thank you!

    Actually in my previous office I was given Dell Precision/XPS 15 to use as a daily computer...now I am looking for personal..I have eyesight issues.
    1. Dell XPS 17 is very expensive than Lenovo thinkbook 16, which is better?, Dell XPS 17 has bigger screen and very thin bezels, great speakers, silent keyboard pad...what I have heard.
    I haven't seen nor nearby my store there is no physical demo of Lenovo thinkbook 16. I am afraid how it will be in terms of screen especially on the other hand Dell xps 17 is double of the cost.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a tough comparison. A thin laptop will run much hotter and is twice the cost. It’s raw performance will be lower
      The thicker laptop however is thicker and more industrial in design.
      If you really want as sleek as possible the dell will probably win. For raw performance and quality the Lenovo. (Also has a better keyboard).
      Both have super screens assuming you get the higher resolution options on either

    The main reason I don't recommend this laptop, is that the Legion slim 7 gen 8 AMD exists, with 7840HS (albeit less powerful) and 99.9Wh battery, AND with this 3.2K screen. All for cheaper (1414 USD) than this version, even with a 13700H (1546 USD) on the Lenovo website (as of Nov 2 2023).

    Tech Guy Beau!
    I really value your reviews but as a 73 year young gal who is doing her best to learn about these new advanced machines, especially as it applies to deep learning and AI, it isn't easy to keep up with you! But I must confess, I think all TH-camrs talk too fast and wonder if you think we oldie goldies can keep up with you? I have to go into the TH-cam settings and slow the rate to half of normal speed. Otherwise, everything goes in one ear and out the other!.
    The only problem is the change in the rate makes you sound like you're either drunk or severely handicapped but it enables me to keep up when not laughing. It's pretty hysterical listening to you, and it takes twice the time to get through a review or podcast. This gives me time to jot down info I want to remember without replaying something 8 or 10 times to understand what you are saying. Have you ever listened to yourself at half the normal speed? The music for testing the speakers is equally comical. Listening to the sound of your typing on the keys at half the normal speed is pretty funny, too. I am now listening to the review for "my new favorite laptop the Lenovo ThinkBook 16P."
    I've laughed all the way through it but managed to understand the terms and numbers you are throwing out during the review. Go back and listen to it at half the speed and you'll understand what I'm saying. Anyway, wish I knew why TH-camrs are in such a big hurry . Nice if you could slow down to reach kids from the '50s who are struggling to keep up with this new technology! Thanks and keep up the great Tubing! 😂😉

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason why most TH-cam people talk fast is that TH-cam will punish you if your videos are longer. There’s an algorithm that we all are too, and if you want people to see your videos and get your assistance, then you must make sure your videos are as concise as possible.
      As it stands my videos are already technically too long, for the algorithm to promote them at least. You’ll notice that most videos these days are 8 to 12 minutes. Mine being 22 minutes is actually extremely long
      Unfortunately that’s just the way that the system works, I appreciate you taking the time to learn technology though. A lot of people just abandoned learning once they get out of high school. But the most important thing we can do is always learn

    What about the cooling tho? I don't think that cooling in a business laptop is the same, because when a manufacturer builds the gaming laptop it surely will focus it on gaming, not for productivity.

      The cooling on this is actually better than the legions in the same class

    You seemed to love the keyboard. But, have you tried thinkpads before? I am wondering if this keyboard is even better than thinkpad’s….

      @@TechGuyBeau Is this Thinkbook keyboard the same as on other Thinkbooks? Or is this keyboard unique to this specific Thinkbook model? The reason I ask is that this 16p Thinkbook is a bit out of my price range, but I know there are less expensive Thinkbooks.

      Think of a hybrid between a legion and a thinkpad keyboard. It’s probably the best keyboard I’ve ever used on a laptop.

      It’s extremely similar. It’s basically a Lenovo legion 7 pro 2022 or a slightly thicker 2023 legion 7 slim.

    Oh look, an off-centre touchpad. Why? Just why. Who on the design team looks at that and approves it? Is there some advantage to having it off-centre like that? It drives me crazy when I see a laptop with an off-centre touchpad.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because the track had aligned with the keyboard. If the trackpad was in the middle of the chassis on the laptop that has a numb pad, it would be technically very off-center from typing and awkward to use
