Pretty good video. Nicely paced and good analysis. My only criticism is that when showing doctor you've got the input level fixed at 0dbfs in all examples.
That's why the plugin is constantly pinned in the red of its input sensitivity which is the ceiling for the soft clipper.
You need to bring down the input level in doctor in order to get the plugin in its "ideal" input stage which waves say to be max peaks of -12dbfs.
What you've shown is the plugins input being abused which means it's overly saturating just at its default setting.
Makes the Hammerstein pretty pointless as the level of saturation it shows has no relevance to how the plugin should be used.
The compression of harmonics you are seeing is due to the level increase caused by the saturation dials further exceeding the threshold of the clipper.
When a waves plugin has an input sensitivity and goes into the red that's when you are out of the realms of realism in regards to its intended sound cause the clipping algorithm can't handle its ceiling being exceeded by much.
Think of it like a normal clipper without working oversampling. It's gonna create distortion, that's what happens when you soft clip and the more the input exceeds the threshold the more it's going to distort.
Waves try to model hardware clipping in a lot of their emulations but it can only do a very small amount (Amber) until it basically falls apart (red). That's why they've got the green, Amber, red. Amber is when the soft clipping engages and red is when it falls apart and distorts like crazy. Think of red like hard clipping the daw. It's nasty digital distortion at that point and due to their not being working oversampling the plugin falls into a mess of digital distortion and aliasing.
So when showing harmonics in doctor my advice is to go in at what 0vu is calibrated to in the plugin (normally -18dbfs, sometimes -12) not 0dbfs cause you are dealing with a modelled analog plugin and for the intended results it should be tested as such.
Just be careful in future cause there's already a lot of talk that doctor can't be trusted when it's really all about how it's set up.
    Good objective take though 🤓

    Helpful video!!
I've listened to about 10 demos of this, and it does add something 'good' to the sound of recordings. I can't say it's the 'only' plugin of this type I'd use, but it is definitely worth using overall. 🙂👍

I tried all of the oversampling modes but none seem to do anything to get rid of the aliasing... weird.

That was great. Thanks. I bought this and to me it sounds like a darker version of Sonnox Inflator. I'd be curios to see a side by side of those two.

Funny thing, i believe i can hear aliasing even in the clean unprocessed sine sweep as well. 😅 if you listen carefully. This must come from TH-cam compressing the shit out of the audio.

Unfortunately, TH-cam quality is awful. I'm considering creating a soundcloud with all examples. There is so much audio info missing in my videos thanks to TH-cams compression.

@@moksoundstudios Soundcloud sound quality is pretty bad. At least it was last time I checked.

some of the cool kids use dropbox (although not a favorite)
