he's not "free handing." Moving two or more axis on a lathe or mill is called "hand manipulation" and it is highly unlikely to be used for a taper because there is no precision. He most likely adjusted his compound rest to the proper angle and just made the cut with the compound rest like any normal machinist would.

I've found that when I grind a bit more of a radius on the tips of my lathe carbide tips, I get a much better finish, and the sharp tips are only good for cutting right into corners.
He is using cemented carbide inserts. There is a chip breaker incorporated into the edge of the insert. Why in the hell would you radius into the edge of a chip breaker on an insert. Because you just destroyed the insert.
Victa made a horizontally opposed 2 stroke mower. I own one. IIRC they were made in Canada. Both cylinders fire simultaneously so it sounds like a smooth single.

Victa actually made opposed two stroke mower engines. I know I've got one. Took a very long time to find it too. Now I have it and have used it, it is without a doubt the most hopeless mower ever designed. Plenty of power, better smoothness but the discharge chute has the rear axle running through it meaning all it's good for is mowing bowling greens.

Port timing and use of a reed valve just down stream of the carburetor to allow crankcase pressure to build as both pistons coming down to uncover the intake ports in the cylinders thus allowing the pressure built up in the crankcase to rush into the cylinders chasing out the exhaust gasses whilst fuel/air mixture becomes trapped in the cylinders as the now rising pistons close off the intake and exhaust ports compressing the air/fuel mixture untill some time just before the pistons reach the top of the stroke when the ignition timing ignites the mixture forcing the pistons down beginning the entire nasty process over again and so on and so forth. Also at 9:40 when your turning the output shaft the vertical shaft you can see it's not perfectly straight it has a slight wobble in it just barely but your gonna wear out your bearings quickly if not fixed other then that love where the video is going sofar

@ThePaulv12 that design flaw is all too common in mowers. Why not do an (admittedly complicated) mod and remove it?
