    Very professional work.There is another guy from Croatia who does very similar quality work. Maybe culture, education or both, you guys do such a professional job that I am not sure how even professionally labeled company reviews here in the US can compete. I have bought the Panasonic G9 and so far I am very impressed. I plan to actually spend a day or two photographing this weekend. People complain about ISO performance with micro four thirds, but we are still miles ahead of what film could have done in ISO performance. And when I shot with my Canon T2i, I never complained about ISO performance. The G9 surpasses that and comes close to current APS-C sized sensors. And the features are why I bought the G9. I am really impressed with the eye detect and focusing. Again great review.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Ivan from camerahoarders also makes great reviews. As long as the sensor can deliver results, the size is not that important. Thanks to the improvement in dynamic range the G9 can now compete with larger sensor cameras if the right lens is being used. Thank you for watching!

      What do you think of the g9? Have you tried the high resolution mode? I own a gh5 and a 5dmk4 and i think the g9 could be a great walk around alternative as well as still having 4k60p means i can use it for my wedding films when I don't need unlimited recording. Thanks in advance if you answer!

    I was considering the Sony for awhile, but I have owned many Panasonic's camera and non camera products over the years and have never failed me, unlike a few Sony non cameras products that have not survived the test of time. Right now I I own a Panasonic FZ80 great camera zoom on this camera, but it is a bit too plastic feeling for my taste especially since I did own a Canon 60 D for a while feels proper and manly. I may upgrade and keep my current FZ80 and look at the G9 or wait a while and go full on board with the Panasonic S1 full frame. The lens investment is what holds me back on these cameras, this is just my opinion I love Panasonic.

    Help! I absolutely can not decide between this two cameras. There is so much to like about the G9. It has almost every facility in perfection and i like what comes out of the camera, when using Leica-lenses. The a6500 has some drawbacks. A weak display, a noisy shutter, halfhearted touchfunction, a fiddly memory card slot, not the best colors in jpegs. But i like the small formfactor and the rangefinder-style. It is easy to transport und more discrete. The G9 is a little bit to big and heavy for a MFT-camera for my taste. I am very torn between this 2 cameras. At the moment i have the G9. But i just bought a used a6500 and when i got it i will see what my instincts says. ;-) Thanks for your great videos!

    I'll guess the a6600 isn't much better than the a6500 except for battery life and overheating, since it has the same sensor and processing engine. So... G9 vs M6 looks like my choice.

    Nice video mate! I still pfefer my Sony due to the better autofocus Iso and depth of field and eye af of course! So totally agree with you! Waiting for the a6700 with a better battery flip screen and 4k 60 fps maybe !

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you, Sony has a lot of work to with A6700, since the real world difference in AF and ISO between the G9 and A6500 is very small, I actually prefer the G9 right now.

    • @EscapeSquad
      @EscapeSquad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Hybrid Shooter yes i agree! Sony has some issues to fix especially on the ergonomics and the screen but judging from the a7riii Sony will not dissapoint us! I prefer the apsc size sencor and if i could afford the full frame a7riii i would defenitely upgrade! Very nice review and informative though!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is if sony even decides to continue developing APS-C cameras. If the sensor can deliver the performance I actually don't care if it is FF, APS-C or MFT. For me personally, the 42 mpix sensor in A7R III would cause me more trouble than benefits so I went with G9 instead, since the usability of Panasonic is still much better. Hopefully the A7 III will be an improvement in that area.

    • @EscapeSquad
      @EscapeSquad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Hybrid Shooter yes Panasonic are extremely usuable but the full frame format creates much more appealing portraits and generally depth of field! Also they have amazing low light capabilities and very good ergonomics! Panasonic though is more use friendly and you can build a gear around mft much cheaper tha Sony's ff!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, that is generally truth, although I don't shoot portraits at all and I have ordered some fast lenses to compensate for the low light capabilities and depth of field, I will probably get the speedbooster as well. IMO the ergonomics is not that great even of FF Sony cameras, although A9 and A7R III are a big improvement.

    I am so torn about these two cameras. I can not decide wich to buy. Although i think i like Panasonic a little bit more and the G9 has some advantages over the a6500 in functions and ergonomics, but there is one important plus for the a6500: the size of the sensor.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can't really go wrong with either, as you can see in the video, the sensor size is doesn't make that much difference is this particular case.

    I bought and HATED the Panasonic FZ2500 two years ago. I am very hesitant to go for the G9 even though on paper it seems to have almost everything I want. The image quality and autofocus speed of the Sony a6500 are just so appealing to me, especially as a father who will be primarily taking pictures of his young child who is into dance, gymnastics, and soccer. I want to be able to get good still images of my child as she dances indoors, for example. I'm less concerned about typical still photos outdoors, though fast autofocus performance during soccer will also be desired. Can you offer any input regarding the use of the G9 vs the a6500 for my particular situation?

    • @TheHybridShooter

      G9 is completely different league in comparison FZ2500 it is capable of very good results while shooting sports with FW 1.2.

  • @kbruff2010
    @kbruff2010 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think there is one small thing that should be covered, and that is the ability to use the Sa6500 with external power pack in real time, additionally the apps extend the function of the camera very nicely. Finally the compact size of the Sony is "un-attending" so it can appear to be an amateur camera and avoid public scrutiny. (to some extent) You're videos are very helpful. Thanks again.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use most of the new camera either while using USB charging or dummy battery and external power, G9 does that as well, I am personally not a fan of apps, I would much prefer having those functions in the menu like with other cameras, Sony is not even putting apps in the newest cameras. If the appearance is an issue, I recommend getting SmallRig cage.

    But since you have more experience of me with sony mirrorless maybe you know how to solve it.
    When I use the app for the remote control of the camera (sony a6000), I forbid the video recording, I tried them all but it is still not possible.

      Thank you, the dynamic range of 6D Mk II is nothing short of embarrassing, even older MFT cameras have better DR. The only thing that I like about 6D Mk II is Dual pixel AF in live view mode, there are much better cameras for that price (or for much less money).

  • @marinrealestatephotography

    Thanks for the video. Does the G9 have picture profiles at all when shooting video? It would be great to see the difference in dynamic range (preferably when shooting Cine 1 or Cine 4 gamma on the a6500, since I prefer NOT to use SLOG if I don't have to, and PP8 with Cine 1 / Cine 4 is so nice).

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have picture profiles, although not as advanced. I have actually made a video about how to crate picture style similar to PP8 + Gamma changed to Cine4 on Panasonic G85. th-cam.com/video/TEUpu-emtlg/w-d-xo.html I will make similar video for G9 later on.

    Great video, you deserve more subs in your channel
    almost at the end, you said that in terms of image quality the a6500 is still a bit ahead, do you see it if you take identical pictures ? because i think that having an AA filter will make the a6500 lose at least 2 MP so they should be almost equal

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you, the image quality is not only about the sharpness, there are more important attributes like dynamic range and ISO performance. Whether you see the difference depends on what are you shooting and how are you publishing it.

    • @KimCruz1
      @KimCruz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Hybrid Shooter thanks man what about 120 FPS though? It’s not quite so clear on spec sheets but it seems like the g9 doesn’t have 120 FPS is that right?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you only have 150 fps in 25p output and 180 fps in 30p output on G9.

      ah that sucks if the g9 had that nice 120fps in 1080p it might've been worth it over the gh5! thanks for answering i love how detailed your reviews are keep it up!

  • @shiznuts
    @shiznuts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, the A6500 body is pretty small (not without it's problems ergonomically, regarding ports or heat handling wise, et cetera, but okay), but you'll probably end up using fullframe E-mount lenses most of the time, since the dedicated APS-C line-up has been neglected by Sony for years now. Guess they push it to be a teaser... with the ultimate goal people will buy the A7 or even A9 series in the future and they'll already have the fullframe glass to go with that.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks to Sigma I actually have all my needs covered by APS-C lenses. I don't intend to buy any full frame lenses for A6500. I have made video about that bit.ly/a6500lenses

      Yeah, Sigma is great. Had the MFT mounts of the EX DN series 19mm & 30mm f/2.8 before. Now I've added the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN. They're great lenses. But it's a bit tough to depend on 3rd party manufacturers alone. MFT has so much more options!

      If I decide to buy an APS camera it is because of the small size and weight of the camera and lenses, I would never buy an FF lens.

    • @shiznuts
      @shiznuts 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. That's where my problem with Sony lies. After 2014 they only released one lens... that was aimed at ENG/Cine folks that don't mind a huuuuUUge lens and massive pricetag (3000+). Well and then this year that one slow 18-135mm. But that's what I've said, they've completely been neglecting releasing dedicated APS-C lenses that are compact (and affordable). Just about everything Sony brings out is FF. Which raises the question, why bother with a Sony A6x00? Either go A7III and do not mind the FF lenses, or pick Fujifilm for APS-C or M43 is it has to be even more compact (I personally think Canon EOS-M is a bad joke).

    Great video - spot on - sad how Panasonic Lumix remains a bastard child with so many consumers - do not even give them a try -
    So many that are buying a name -
    I hear over and over with Panasonic Lumix G9 owners that they really enjoy using the G9 - makes them want to shoot more -
    to me that says a lot - pixel peeping is not the most important thing - rather the important shoots - of course the G9 produces super nice IQ
    I bought the Sony NEX5n then the NEX7 and then the A6000 and then the A6500 - still have them all - and yes they have all had a nice sensor - but I have never enjoyed using them - yes finally the A6500 has more options and a bit better menu / display layout - but in last 4 years Sony has only introduced only one new lens - amazing - and still no 24-70 F2.8 or 70-200mm F2.8 or F1.2 for F1.4 native lenses -

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Lumix cameras are generally joy to use, even lower range models like G85 or even LX10, Sony has made significant improvements on A9 and A7R III but the user experience is still far from Panasonic. Having said that I still appreciate how much technology is Sony able to pack into such small cameras.

    Great review. But curious, I believe you said you liked the G9 still quality better than the a6500, but at the end of the video you said the a6500 was the IQ winner. So if I'm right about that, is that because you think the video is superior on the a6500, and the stills close enough to give it the nod in that case?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I said that I like the color reproduction from G9 more in stills, overall image quality is still a bit better with A6500. Out of camera colors in video are also better with G9, but A6500 has variety of very advanced picture profiles, which are great for color grading.

    • @drewllew
      @drewllew 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, HS.
      Since I'm thinking about switching from video to stills for weddings - better money, higher demand - which camera would you use to shoot a wedding? Leaning towards G9, but concerned about low light limitation.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be possible to shoot weddings with G9 but you would need expensive F1.2-F1.8 prime lenses to shoot with shallow depth of field or in low light environment combined with something like 12-35 and 35-100mm F2.8. Something like Nikon D750 will probably be more suitable specifically for weddings. With A6500 you can shoot weddings with Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 and 50-10mm F1.8 with MC-11, that will give you full frame results.

      @TheHybridShooter i do alot of timlpase and macro photography. i do not have a lot of time to edit in post . The sony a6400 cannot compile timlapses in camera. It dosnt even have a basic crop picture function sometimes needed in macro photography. Its just a little upsetting these basic features are missing after paying 1200 dollars for a camera. It does on the other hand take good video . One more thing also in silent shutter mode picture profiles are disabled iam a little baffled about that i shoot mostly panasonic now and none of those things are a problem.
