Miranda! Brilliant timing with her comic asides. Dear Matt, how could you ever be scary? Disconcerting, maybe….😉. How amazing to have met all those musical heroes. Great episode, thanks Rob ✨
I highly recommend watching the clip 'Dame Edna Vs Piers Morgan'. It's only a few seconds long, but one of the most exquisite and perfect put downs to one of the most vile and biggest egos in the media.
Oh my! I clicked on this video as soon as it popped up on my feed. I first saw Matt Lucas on Shooting Stars and have been a fan ever since. I'm definitely going to buy his book once we get it here in New Zealand. Fab podcast, I've now subscribed.
For someone that worked in the airline industry for ten years; Come Fly With Me is one of the best things to ever appear on television! Also…..Bradley still does a very good job”aside” on the Chase……
Wd luv to gave heard more about Matt's time on progs such as the brilliant 'Catterick' instead of all the famous people they both know & have splendid times with...
Mike Barrymore next. Matt looks the best hes been. No chubby cheeks. His confidence is great with his sence of humour always. I was in intensive care asleep on Christmas eve to February so the book means alot to me. thanks.
On TV & film, there was always what used to be called 'reaction shots', not always 'to camera', but close-ups, eg in a Carry On film, of Kenneth Connor's repressed little face crying "cooorrrrgh!"
Does anyone know what the poster Rob mentions right at the end is? He says it's Matt and David Walliams in a poster for an Edinburgh show. I tried googling but nothing useful came up.
I recently uploaded a hale n pace clip on tiktok and has 40k views (note im around 200 views mostly on other videos unless i put comedy clips up) its the goat and rubber Billy and Johnny clip. 😂
Back in Covid-19 times when Rob podded from home the set didn't matter. This set with Matt is ridiculous, when you show the wide angle of both of you there is space for 4 people on the couch in the middle. #fail
I remember seeing Michael Barrymore with his comedy act which involved impressions of Basil Fawlty at a nightclub in Stoke back in 1979. His humour didn't really suit the drunken Saturday night crowd but worked well watered down on tv as family entertainment. Saw Norman Pace on the stage at the Hammersmith Lyric in a revue of Jules Feiffer's cartoons where he played a variety of mid western characters. Ed Bishop was also in the show. Please do not buy Matt's book at the cheaper price as that mean's Amazon or a chain unless you are really skint. Please try to buy it from a local independent shop who needs your business more. ps I don't own a book shop.
Captivating guest aside, I am loving this podcast. Rob is so effortlessly funny and warm and I'm so glad he puts these out.
Love Matt’s humility. I wish more people in the public eye would be as humble
I think, I could listen to Matt talk for hours... ❤

'Dust anybody?' 😆
I still love 'Little Britain'. It was unique, shocking and hilarious.
Ting Tong 😀😀😀
@@CrystalShip8899 'Hi Martin, it's Linda' 😆😆
Call me Bubbles darling, everybody does.
Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust.
I crack that line out just in random moments and I don't care if ppl get it or don't, I just love saying it.
💙🌻💙 Thanx gentlemen. Loverly conversation.
Definitely buying the book for my daughter for Xmas. Sounds like a great read and sing-along.❤
Ooh loved that and I am buying that “ musical” book for my daughter ! Thanks Matt!
Matt an unassuming colossus of UK entertainment. Loved praise of Barrymore.
Matt: "I've met some of my heroes..." Rob: "Thank you" 😂
Mike Batt! I grew up watching "Watership Down". I love Paul Williams too.
Yummy! Such a delicious interview. Effortless and flowing and SO entertaining...gripped!! Thank you so much!

Matt in shooting stars was utterly hilarious. Actual great British telly 😊
Love the book idea. Just ordered it ❤
Not many of these where Brydon doesn't go out of his way to undermine the guest and steal the show, well done Matt Lucas! 👏
Brilliant. Loved it.
"you're at that age now" 🤣😭
i thought Mr. Lucas as The Villain to be Very memorable and really liked it.
For someone that worked in the airline industry for ten years; Come Fly With Me is one of the best things to ever appear on television!
Also…..Bradley still does a very good job”aside” on the Chase……
I adore them both.
i couldn't even recognize the man. Oh Matt, i loved him from his LB days! We still used to have BBC Entertainment back then. 😭
Wow I'm so glad he mentioned Kröd Mandoon, not a great show but Matt Lucas an Alex Macqueen together were AWESOME.
Rob these interviews are too short ! I could have listened to Matt & especially Harry Enfield for hours x
Wd luv to gave heard more about Matt's time on progs such as the brilliant 'Catterick' instead of all the famous people they both know & have splendid times with...

I came to say "he's dead" but a quick Google check let me know he's still alive and kicking and is thinking of moving to spain 🇪🇸
@@ChrisFashLa Barrymore is dead? No!! Is he?
@@Msmith123-r9fNoooo. He's just moving to spain 😅
Wow, he's a good man who makes people happy.
Matt Lucas has really reached the peak of his career being in big blockbuster movies and tv shows such as Doctor Who, Wonka and Gladiator 2
And Rob Brydon be looking pretty in a pink shirt
A wonderful day for your hair Brydon, first class.
Hairpiece has settled in
..just noticed..Ai hair?
He's very talented.
Blankety blanket current presenter Bradley Walsh does the side looking into the camera
Phoebe Waller-Bridge does the comic aside in Fleabag all the time.
To answer Matt's question, I would say the master of the aside is Bradley Walsh.
Jesus no 🤦♂️
I was hoping Matt would talk about how he found the voice for Vicki Pollard
Would love to hear if Rob has any memories of s1/2 of Bob and Margaret. Almost seems like that show never existed at some points but it was great!
I'm not sure Matt Lucas would be scary as a real villain but he was very sinister as George Dawes ..... and funny obviously
Gervais and Freeman's comic asides in 'The Office' bridged the gap between Barrymore and reaction videos.
On TV & film, there was always what used to be called 'reaction shots', not always 'to camera', but close-ups, eg in a Carry On film, of Kenneth Connor's repressed little face crying "cooorrrrgh!"
@@jamesthecat The Comic Asides Council (CAC) guidelines are clear: "1.2 To camera 1.3. Directed at the viewing audience".
What are the scores George Dawes ?

Thank you for this. :)
Masters of the aside, for me, are Miranda Hart and Bradley Walsh.
I thought the same
Wow! Skinny Matt looks so much healthier.👍
Barrymore is now a TikTok legend, bless him
I recently uploaded a hale n pace clip on tiktok and has 40k views (note im around 200 views mostly on other videos unless i put comedy clips up) its the goat and rubber Billy and Johnny clip. 😂
It is a strange thing to be baffled by people I have heard of talking about people I've never heard of.
Pea-NUTS !!
What are scores george DAWES!!
He played all these villains, but not Boris??
I can understand why Matt asked if Rob found the videos erotic, the ones I saw were uncomfortably... charged.
No such thing as too much Partridge :)

Michael Barrymore was a significant loss to the entertainment world.

These interviews are so lame. Rob is really good and so are most of the guests but it's all very dull.
