Great Reviews, I feel I get more from your reviews than CNETs 1-3 min reviews. I really can't wait to see one for the Nexus 6 (assuming one will be done).
Excellent video! I've been deciding between the Fire TV and this so I'm glad you showed both gaming and screen mirroring which are the biggest deciding factors for me. The Fire TV seems to have the slight performance edge on paper and also the better I/O ports on the back. The Nexus Player seemed to handle that game just fine and hopefully in time will have much greater game/app support than the Fire TV and also ROMs or a full Play store for wider capabilities. In the meantime I could always just mirror my table's screen to my TV until the device gets more native app and game support. I'm definitely considering getting a Nexus Player!
Wow, this is actually a pretty impressive product, I'm sure as the product matures more software will be available for it, I do like the look of that remote control unit, so simple looking. It sounds like the directional pad on the remote control is a bit noisy though. I'm not surprised you can use the game controller to navigate the user interface, that's pretty much a given. Can you use a bluetooth keyboard to navigate the user interface and quickly type search terms?
Great review! This product seems like the perfect mix between Apple Tv and Chromecast, just what I was waiting for. Only downside is I'll have to wait a while for it to be released where I live.
Thanks for the video, *****. It was really informative and well done. One question that came up when you bought Modern Combat. If you bought Modern Combat from the Play Store for your phone, does that mean that you've already paid for the Android TV app, or are TV apps considered to be separate?
How well is this compatible to apple products? Cause the chrome cast does an ok job with apple products but there is a entirely new experience when using an android.
Great review as usual always thorough and informative. However i'd like to know iif this unit supports DNLA and iif it can connect to a network storage device.
In my opinion is a must have, my only question is, if I buyed a game like modern combat 4 on my Phone, it will ask me to buy it again or it will be avaible for download?
Thus far the only media streaming box ive found that also takes antenna input is the channelmaster stream+. I hope to find another box if it even exists
Thanks Mike, still on the fence between this and next Roku. Does Nexus Player allow multiple user log in or do you have to log out of google acct. each time and log in with new usr each time?
Given that Amazon is the competition, I think it's safe to conclude that there'll never be an Amazon Instant channel on the Nexus Player. BUT, if I have the Amazon Instant app on my phone or tablet, I should be able to mirror it via the player to my TV, right?
ron bZoom I think Amazon is mostly interested in distributing their content more than their devices. The Amazon Kindle apps are on competing tablets after all.
***** Oh I totally get that. But I was wondering if I have the Amazon Instant app on my phone, I should be able to mirror it to my TV just like any other app on my phone or tablet via the Nexus Player, right? There isn't some sort of block that would prevent mirroring Amazon content through a Nexus device, I hope. Thanks!
Nice! It would be cool to have Android TV(and Wear) in AOSP so that I could eventually see Android TV on like the MINIX or a lot of those other TV boxes that I've been seeing that get seen in like the Play Store as an Android tablet.
I have a chromecast and I use the hell out of that thing. I love the portability paired with the ability to do wifi tether from my Note 4. I downloaded Foxfi for $9.99 and turned on the wifi tether which allowed me to connect my chromecast to it. After 3wks of usage, I cut my home internet since I have unlimited data with Verizon, I get about 74-80 Mbps download speeds.
So if I want a way for my son to get into google play store games is this the device to get? I am looking for some cheaper gaming then an xbox Thoughts? He loves his touch but wants to play on a big screen.
Mike have you tried playing movies over your network with the Nexus? Specifically from a NAS device. I need another media streaming device for network streaming and would like Android TV as well. But a deal breaker if it can't play MKV's over network.
Hei, this year the Sony's TVs will come with AndroidTV and i'm planning to buy one. Is there any reason to buy the nexus player as well if I already have AndoridTV on my TV
This is so amazing..I want this right now..for a person who keeps watching TH-cam and playlists, this would be THE BEST!

***** man you make me want to buy everything you review !! Thank you for the detailed reviews I absolutely love them !
Absolutely excellent video. I wanted to know what the Nexus Player was all about, and I've left this video full of knowledge.
The interface looks really sweet & fluid, I was thinking I could pass on this since I have my trusty Chromecast, I might have to rethink, hmmm
First video of yours I've watched and it was an instant subscribe in less than 30 seconds. Great video!
Another great one Mike, I may pick this up to run n with my Apple TV since i'm deep in both worlds. Also love seeing my face on your TV lol
This video has been in my watch later playlist for 2 months xD

Great video... Just wanted to let you know that the Nexus player does support Ethernet you just have to get the micro USB to Ethernet dongle
This is the best interface i have seen for TV set tops.
Very intelligent design regarding the LED.

Nice, watching your videos since 2011 :D
Can you add a Bluetooth keyboard to type and maybe a Bluetooth external hard drive? Also I have a chromecast is it worth the upgrade?
Great review! This product seems like the perfect mix between Apple Tv and Chromecast, just what I was waiting for. Only downside is I'll have to wait a while for it to be released where I live.
amazingly in-depth :) loved it.
That interface is slick!
Great review! One question, can you control chromecast in something with the included remote or you have to use the phone/tablet?
Thanks
Looking forward to the Fire stick review👍👍👍
You make everything look sweet!! And the gamepad looks like i could use it on xbox or plastation
Mike wil you be doing giveaways of the new nexus products soon?
Great job as always. Funny thing that I saw is that you bought Modern Combat but didn't played it.
Thanks for the video, *****. It was really informative and well done.

Great review lots of information. Your a much better reviwer as you give information in depth. Keep up the good work
Best review, unlike other reviewers who just rush
Love your reviews man....
Thank You!
I SAW PENTATONIX VOL. 3. BTW GREAT VIDEO.
Have you already done a review of that TV you're using in the vid?
The controller looks like a combination of Xbox One and PS 4
Same

Great review as usual always thorough and informative. However i'd like to know iif this unit supports DNLA and iif it can connect to a network storage device.
Combined with the voice option, that remote reminds me of a 90's voice recorder.
Shoutout to GeekyNerdDad at 11:57 LOL, oh btw great informative vid (once again) *****
Great review! I'm wondering if there's a possibility to disable/remove the first row on the ui (the recommendations and previous played)?
Adullish poll plaza lqll
In my opinion is a must have, my only question is, if I buyed a game like modern combat 4 on my Phone, it will ask me to buy it again or it will be avaible for download?
I actually liked the bottom thumbnail.
Thus far the only media streaming box ive found that also takes antenna input is the channelmaster stream+. I hope to find another box if it even exists

No, if you buy an app on your phone using the Play store. You won't have to purchase it again on the Nexus Player.

Nice! It would be cool to have Android TV(and Wear) in AOSP so that I could eventually see Android TV on like the MINIX or a lot of those other TV boxes that I've been seeing that get seen in like the Play Store as an Android tablet.
Great review as always. Waiting for nexus 6!!
When you buy this stuff do you even use them?
If your stupid enough to buy them and then not use them.
I have a chromecast and I use the hell out of that thing. I love the portability paired with the ability to do wifi tether from my Note 4. Oh that's cool
Mike do you use the 5K iMac and do you like it?
So if I want a way for my son to get into google play store games is this the device to get? I am looking for some cheaper gaming then an xbox Thoughts? He loves his touch but wants to play on a big screen.

Google took its time to process.
Jokes on them
Do i need the Android player or can i just buy the controller and use it for my TV with an Android operating system?
Great review as always Mike!
Thank you!
Can you sideload Android apps from your phone to the Nexus Player and run them, which are not optimized for Nexus TV?
Mike have you tried playing movies over your network with the Nexus? Specifically from a NAS device. I need another media streaming device for network streaming and would like Android TV as well. But a deal breaker if it can't play MKV's over network.
Thank you, Mike. I have a question.
So, if I have an Android TV, do I still need to get the Nexus Player?
+Bassam Abulela you shouldn't have to. They should have the exact same functionality
RandomVideos I see! thank you =)

Hei, this year the Sony's TVs will come with AndroidTV and i'm planning to buy one. Is there any reason to buy the nexus player as well if I already have AndoridTV on my TV
If you already have AndroidTV the Nexus Player isnt needed
If I already bought a game on my pc, wil it be free on the nexus player?
Is there any way to actually skip the wifi setup and use the system entirely offline?
My concern , would it work outside the us? Just like the apple tv or it will be similar to amazon fire tv exclusive for us?!
In term of availability, some of the apps is not working outside the US but you can still use it just like the Apple TV.
Francisco Danilo Royeca thanks man I really appreciate it . if you can post a video for that it will be really helpful as well.
Can you plug this into a monitor?
Awesome video thanks for the reviews helps me a lot
