Just got my first handgun kill Saturday. I shot a doe at 27 yards with a 240gr hornady xtp bullet and 24 grains of W296 out of my S&W model 629 classic 44 mag. She ran 90yds but left a good blood trail so it wasn't too hard to find her...
I own the 460 in a 10.5 bbl toped with a Leupold scope. I had a trigger tuned to approx 1 lb. I also reload all my rounds needless to say it’s a tack driver.
Wade the 460 will not lose very much at all from 40 yards to 100 yards i hunt a lot with mine and have the optic set for 100 yards i just drop down an inch or so at 35 yards
I have the same setup on my S&W 629 classic 44 mag. The mount you need is a Trijicon RM46. For the RMR you MUST use the adjustable LED version which is model RM06 (the auto only version leaves the dot way too bright). But honestly if you're wanting an optic strictly for hunting the SRO is a better choice. Especially if you've never used a small reflex sight before. Fast dot acquisition is not easy and takes a lot of practice and muscle memory. The SRO has a larger viewing window and a smaller dot (2.5moa) which is more precise and is easier to pickup in the larger window. I would even consider the 1moa version SRO for even more precise aiming. Only con to the SRO is it's not as durable as the RMR.
@@mdees88 Good answers sir! I do agree that the SRO is fast and easy to use in hunting situation especially in situations where the animal is moving. I've got one mounted on a 44 MAG from the Performance Center as well. On this hunt and many i've done with the 460XVR I've found that I'm often shooting off of sticks or tripod and have found the RMR rigged that way really worked nicely for me. Thanks for the replies and insight. Good luck on your next hunt
Seems strange doesn't it? Wade actually did a video on why he whispers after the shot regardless of what he hunts deer with. Check it out and thanks for watching! th-cam.com/users/shortsHR5iX8d2Z60
Have you ever hunted big game with a handgun?

skip to 7:27 you're welcome
Can you help out an owner of the same pistol by telling me what mounts are needed for the set up you have?
David, Are you asking about the tripod or the red dot sight we're using?
The mount for the Trijicon. I like the way you have it to the rear of the pistol instead of forward on the picatiny.

how deafening was that shooting inside the blinde?
"What , did you say something"
FOZ DO IGUAÇU, PR 🇧🇷
What kind of ammo was used?
Hornady 460 S&W Magnum 200gr FTX
AWESOME buck, dude!
But...LOL... you BLAST a buck with a .460 MAGNUM, then WHISPER to the camera so the animals don't HEAR you and get spooked? 😄😄

Looked a little far back! Idk?
Get your finger off the got dang trigger after the shot, maing! Literally amateur hour over here... Good Lord.
At 27yards the buck should have dropped like a rock. Terrible shot placement.
Horrible shot placement from 27 yards.
Picture perfect shot placement, mega blood trail dead deer all way around.
Look rat there
never understand why you whisper after the shot ?????
Understandable Question, Wade did a video on this exact question. Watch it here: th-cam.com/video/HR5iX8d2Z60/w-d-xo.html
