You did very well 👍 If you do sand it up to 220 grit + 4 thin layers of paint , there is no need for primer , but the primer makes the job 100 percent bullet proof.
I've painted the heatshields on my bike twice now using the VHT paint. I prepped and cured it properly both times. I'm not happy with the end results. It looks good but if you even touch it the paint is so soft that it scratches instantly.
@@noobmaster6491 I let it sit for a couple hours off bike then placed em back and turned the bike on a few minutes turned it off repeat that a few times you’ll be fine
Hey so at 3:58, did u wet sand it again after that last coat of primer, then clean it up then start spraying black? Just asking b/c I didn’t see you wet sand a second time. So if you did, then you clean it up with wax remover then start black paint? Sound about right?
Polish Oskar we saw the same comments about the product. We guessed that most of the people skipped the step of heating the items. We followed the directions and put the mufflers in an over for the amount of time at the different temperatures and with the instructed cooling times as well. This was one of those steps that took over an hour and would have been easy to skip. We did it exactly as directed and as you saw also used primer. No pealing problems at all so far.
Not sure if you have seen our follow up video reviewing the product and seeing how well it has held up, but here is the link: th-cam.com/video/VokYNsH1WwY/w-d-xo.html
Hello, just a question. After the last layer of primer.. how long did you wait until you used the 800 sandpaper? I searched for a manual of the actual VHT primer and it says: Try to paint the primer and the paint itself within an hour. After the hour you have to wait 7 days for more layers... Thank you!
The Improvement Channel No problem. I read also, the ingredients of the paints are in Germany a little bit different. So I will try my best to not ruin it 😂 Thanks mate! And nice vid!!! Greetings from Germany
I hope not. I’m letting my primer dry over night, then I will wet sand and hit with another coat of primer then wet sand one last time, clean up THEN Spray black. Then bake in oven to cure.
The bike just had a muffler on one side. Just needed 1 can of primer and 1 can of paint. If you have 2 mufflers you will want to get 2 of each. What kind of project are you looking at doing?
You know that paint has a good warning section on how bad it is for using it in a confined space with no breathing gear maybe next time wear a painting mask for your own sakes
You did very well 👍

It did work well.

You certainly more experienced than us. It was my son’s bike. He ended up selling not to long after we finished it.
That young fella is going straight to the top!
I agree
Good tip with the wax and grease remover. Nice video.
It is the little things that make a Fine Finished Product!
Very nice paint job. Love the black!
Thank James, I am glad you like the black!
How do you bake it? Put it back on the bike and turn it on or throw it in the oven?
We threw it in the oven to control the temp.
Mine won't fit in the oven. Ugh
trying to find a paint that like Dupli color metal cast but high resistant to heat. I have chrome tail pipes in love to turn copper or gold.
There are not many options out there in the high temp paint category, at least as far as I have seen.
Bake to cure? How am I supposed to fit my whole exhaust in my oven?
One piece at a time
Heat gun
Nice work thank you
Thank you!!
Do you have to bake it to cure it?
Absolutely, baked it in the oven at 3 different temps per the instructions.
@@TheImprovementChannel what if you don't have an oven

Is there a link to Part 2? I couldn't find it.
Yes, it is on the channel.

Yes, we did sand again and clean it up before painting.
is it ok to not to use primer? just the straight black flameproof paint?
We only did it with primer so I do not know.
I cant seem to find a glossy black. Any recommendations?
I have never seen anything but flat paint for high temp. Gloss would be nice!
@@TheImprovementChannel do you think if I shoot the clear they sell for high temp ovee the black it will make it glossy if bake and cure it right
How many cans of primer did you use
I think just 1.
Is the primer and paint nicely staying on ? As i read comment that it peals off on alot of people

We did it all in one day. It has been a while so I am not sure.

If the exhaust is new, do we still need to sand it?
Yes, so the primer will stick. Just cuff it up with a 220 grit.
Yes you do, the sand paper scratches help the paint adhere better to the metal
How do they look now?
Not sure the bike was sold about 6 months later. It looked good when he sold it.
Can you do it without baking it?
It says to bake it. Probably will not get good results if you cut corners.
fire up the bike after you reinstall, thatll bake it pretty good
How many cans of Primer and paint you used for which side?

The Improvement Channel thanks for the feedback. I maybe try to paint my harley’s mufflers in black... it’s chromed... for now.. 😀😀😀
What is the guide coat?
That is a little bit of paint you spray on n too so you can sand that off and know hit sanded everywhere with out sanding deep into the primer.
@@TheImprovementChannel thanks I just went out and got 2 cans of primer and flat black also got 80 120 800 grit repainting my
Exhaust covers tomorrow
Good luck, make sure to go through all the steps. We heated the muffler up in the oven.
Wth is pt 2?
There is a part 2.
I hope your area is well ventilated if you guys aren't wearing masks 😷
It was well ventilated.
Those aren't aftermarket mufflers, those are stock mufflers for a Ninja 500 😅
Drum N Bass we just took the stock ones off the bike and changed them to black.
bake it? WHAT? is this a pie?
Sawyer, this is how it’s done. That is if you read the directions.

You are right.
next time maybe use masks?
Definitely
Wear your masks next time !
For sure!
My dears you painted the muffler only, not the muffler exhaust pipes.... please title correctly...
Sorry, you are correct.
