    A) How long did it take you to shoot this? 2) How many shirts do you own? C) Did you have each shirt laid out in order of take? 4) Have you consider downsizing your wardrobe so you can make videos faster? E) Nice camera 6) Great review of all you learned G) Would you recommend this over the new G2? 8) Would you recommend this for pure phot shooters or pure video shooters? I) Thanks for the different video take.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks, Danny. If I can remember, the talking head part took a day to film. I broke it down into blocks of "10 tips" and got just the shirts together for that block. I had a little rest between each block because it's surprisingly tiring changing your shirt that many times.
      I have no idea how many shirts I have but it's less than 52 which is why some of the shirts repeat (i don't know if anyone has spotted this yet)
      I will be down sizing my wardrobe but it won't help me make videos faster because the slowest part is the writing of the script - I really want to be able to make videos faster, though. That's my current goal for TH-cam.
      If the screen on the back of the G2 is the same brightness as the PRO I'd probably say the G2 is a better deal - but internal NDs are very nice! I wouldn't recommend it for just photo's, there are better cameras out there for that.

    As someone who works with plastics often (3D printing and boutique keyboard design) Carbon Fiber Polycarbonate strikes me as a very nice choice for a lightweight but strong plastic. For longer than I've been alive we've used Glass Fiber Reinforced Nylon in power tools because its cheap and incredibly durable, the plastic used in the Pocket is just an upgrade on that. Polycarb is a bit more impact resistant than nylon, and the Carbon Fiber refers to the support lattice that reinforces the plastic. The downside to polycarbonate compared to nylon is that it scuffs much easier and is actually quite a soft plastic, hence why it is better at surviving impacts.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm afraid, to a novice like me, plastic is plastic. The pocket camera plastic feels cheap compared to say the plastic used by Canon or Nikon in their DSLR bodies. This must be the softness you are talking about. However, if it survives impacts better, then Blackmagic have probably made the right choice. Thanks for the info.

    Great video! I'm a full time freelance videographer and use both Canon and Blackmagic. Earlier today I was filming with the BMPCC 6k Pro and the power adapter into the camera broke off when I unplugged it. This is indicative of my frustration with the Blackmagic cameras. They are incredible value for money, yet there are many small aspects like a robust power supply that is making me move more toward Canon. I just picked up my second Canon C70, and for me the main advantages over the Blackmagic are autofocus, ergonomics, waveform, dynamic range, Clog 2 editing workflow, programmable buttons, ports are easy to access, many useful buttons, works with aps-c and rf lenses while also providing full-frame functionality with 0.71 adapter. For me, the workflow and robust quality of the C70 make it feel like a worthy investment for professional environments, yet I appreciate that Blackmagic is able to offer such amazing image quality at such affordable prices.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to hear about your camera. One of the ways Blackmagic cuts costs is in the area of build quality, for sure. The touch screen on my 4K stopped working after about 12 months. To be fair to Blackmagic they had it fixed in about four days at no cost to me and the cost cutting on build quality is passed on to the customer. It's probably the only way to get such a powerful camera down in price.
      About the c70. What do you think of the flip screen on it, i've seen a few reviews saying it's very cheap feeling and some have snapped off? It's definitely a camera that interests me because I have a lot of canon glass.

    • @lukebergthold7978
      @lukebergthold7978 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChristopherMichaelLaw The flip screen feels about the same as any DSLR flip screen, yet I agree that it feels flimsy when compared to how robust the rest of the camera feels. The screen itself feels sturdy, it's just the joint, yet I've heard if you have a problem with it and send it to Canon, they will reinforce the joint with metal.
      I also agree that after using the Blackmagic touch screen, all other menu systems feel archaic. However, without a lot of corresponding buttons (and the 3 custom buttons does not let me map nearly as much as I'd like on the Blackmagic), I find that I can build a much better muscle-memory based workflow on the C70.
      For multi-cam live concert/performances, I think Blackmagic with ATEM camera control is the perfect system. Yet I'm primarily a wedding videographer, and the workflow advantages of the C70 for constantly changing environments make it worth it to me.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh, I totally agree that for wedding work or anything where you need to be quick and nimble the C70 makes way more sense. The Blackmagic's need a slower more considered approach to get the best out of them. The C70 is on my want list of cameras... but it's a very long list

      @Random Thought Funny how roles change. Blackmagic is the company pushing the IQ/cost ratio this year, but I think a case can be made that the Canon 5D mark ii was the product that created the market that the BMPCC serves now.

      Yeah, the ergonomics are a bit annoying but they are obviously pitching these cameras towards the DSLR crowd and from a sales point of view it's been working. #12 the new "gyro" stab in resolve removes almost all rolling shutter. discovered this by accident and I have no idea why more people arent talking about this. you cant use a speed booster or an IS lens, MUST shoot BRAW (the metadata is stored in BRAW), the camera needs the exact focal length (most primes feed this automatically). if you use a zoom, manually input the focal length youre using. obviously no gimble. I almost fell out of my chair, because RS is my biggest problem with my 6kpro. even if you dont dial the "gyro" amount to full in resolve it still pulls almost all RS out. its insane. Shoot with a high shutter speed to eliminate MB artifacts, and put MB back in fusion with optical flow and a vector MB node and youre in business.

    Good video and clever changing your shirts for every point. I had the 6K and loved it but since I was mainly a one man band, I sold it and picked up the Sony FX3 and never looked back. I miss everything about the P6K but the AF on the FX3 is a dream and not having to over rig it for simple shoots. I hope the next Pocket is actually pocket and a square shape or smaller foot print and has some kind of AF like the Komodo at least. But when you are a single shooter, it was just a pain for me. IF you are doing Big films or have more time to focus and doing more set up shots. the P6K is amazing. Hope your channel grows. I was ALWAYS worried about my shot's being in focus and it eventually was too stressful, for me. Not worrying about focusing totally changed my way of filming and made me enjoy my work more even though the P6K has a "better" imagine. But most will not see the difference when posting on TH-cam or Social networks.

I bought 6K initially before I've upgraded to 6K Pro, I did that with the 6K camera, removed the port covers completely, then inserted them back before returning the camera and geting 6K Pro. But I was battling Rokinon mft prime cine lense bundle and no metabones but also looking at the sigma 18-35mm. I'll try to do much on a tripod but nervous when I do the slow mo on handheld with no image stabilizer with those lenses or the camera. If I was you, I'd probably go with the 6K G2 as you need to rig it out less - with it having a flip screen. The only problem might be that 6K generates a lot of data. I have no idea what computer you have, etc...
      Best thing to do would be download Davinci resolve, see if you can download some 6K footage, and have a play around with it.
      Both cameras are very good, though. So there's no right or wrong answer really.

    Hi Christopher, Great video (god amount of views!), with good feedback. Nice to hear a colleague's points of view. My settings don't disappear even if I remove the battery! As you know the camera doesn't have IBIS, so it depends, as you said, on the type of lens you use. Some, as you probably know, have stabilization, however, if you use a wide lens the handheld movements will be very soft. For example, I use only cinema lenses (Samyang) and when I work with the 14mm I can walk and it looks great! THe best solution for power for this camera is the Anton Bauer Tilton plate battery!!! Thanks, man

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate, glad you liked it. I'm not a big fan of having the battery under the camera. I think it would get in the way of how I like to work. The Anton Bauer plate has a good number of connections so maybe I can mount it at the back like a v-mount and then I'd have the option to use it under the camera if I ever felt the need to. Good news! My camera now holds the setting, maybe something happened in a firmware update, who knows.

    Battery life isn't the best still, but you might consider upgrading your batteries to the 3500ah versions sold by bmd if you don't have any. The one you inserted in b-roll looked like the older 2600ah versions by sony. Gives me about an hour of battery life at 6k 2.4:1 in q3 braw, and 2.5h with the battery grip fully loaded.
