I just inherited my grandmothers collection. I just opened a box of over a dozen Silkstone Fashion Model Collection! Including the incredibly beautiful Maria Therese. I can’t believe these beautiful dolls are mine now. I’m new to the collection world and am trying to find out everything I can about what she has!

Thanks for the retrospective. Over the years, I saw these dolls on Barbie Collector, some even marked down (like the Palm Beach Breeze). I didn't buy them because, at the time, I didn't really like the classic face, and the prices still seemed high with the exchange rate and shipping (I live in Canada). Boy, do I now regret not buying at least a few! I just found out the line was ending about a month ago, and I have gone down the rabbit hole of looking at all the past dolls. Of the dolls in the first 10 years, I think the career series is the most interesting, although I have mixed feelings because it was a time when women were more oppressed. However, it does capture a bygone era in beautiful detail. For just beauty of the outfit, Lady of the Manor, Violette, Soiree, and Tribute are my favourites. It would cost thousands of dollars to obtain just those 4 from the secondary market, so I guess I'll be admiring from afar for now.
Yes, the secondary market prices are pretty steep, especially now that the line has just ended. I started collecting Barbie in 2011, and was not immediately drawn to the BFMC. I was not a fan of the nostalgic face, either. But it grew on me! I think my first BFMC doll must have been Betty Draper from the Mad Men series. Once I unboxed that doll and saw the quality of the doll and fashion, I was hooked. 😉
