I’ve given up on purchasing many dolls because because they looked cheap and looked (in my opinion) kind of lazy (some of the holiday dolls, ballet and birthday wishes, for example.) The adults want some attention too! 😭
The sculpt and outfit is gorgeous and if it wasn't for the mention of pixelation, I'd purchase her. I'm shocked at how such an old and once-respected company's products are going downhill to the point that I won't buy products anymore unless I see them in person to make sure pixelation isn't present. I received mine and I don't see any pixels - not even when holding her under a bright LED light. In a perfect world her dress would have a zipper or snaps and she would be tied into her box with ribbon. I'm very pleased with her, she's beautiful.
The doll just came in the mail for me. I can ignore the pixelated eyes, but what irks me is the print on the cheongsam isn't on the back too, it's just plain red. Cheongsams are decorated on both sides. :'D It's like they just gave up halfway. As a Chinese, I feel like they went halfway in trying to make a 'traditional Chinese' doll. But I'll still keep her, she's pretty either way.
Hi! Is her rooting sparse or full? Is the hairstyle covering bald spots or can she handle a new hairstyle without much scalp showing? Also, have you tried swapping her body?

I love the Lea face sculpt that is often used on Asian Barbies, but it is nice to see Mari for a change. I see that sculpt was also used on the Chriselle Lim Barbie. Do you have that one? If so, is it better for pixellation?
There’s no information on the website nor the forums about when the official release date is. However, the doll can already be purchased on the Walmart website. I do have the Chriselle Lim doll, and I didn’t notice pixel face on her. Then again, I was not aware of the issue at the time, so maybe I missed it. The doll is packed away somewhere. Now I want to go and check! 😆
Pixels are the dots that make up an image. We say that a doll has pixel eyes or pixel face when those dots are visible. This is likely caused by the process of printing the facial features on the dolls.
Thanks for posting this review. At first glance, she’s very pretty, but this doll is a pass for me due to all of the corners that were cut. Her pixilated faceup, printed vs. embroidered dress, and the print only on the front at that! Velcro closure, lack of pedicure & body articulation make her playline, not worth $50 Signature price IMHO. But again thanks for your review which confirmed I should save my money. 😉
I know this is a doll channel, but in 2021 I'm really hoping for containment of the pandemic (i.e. a vaccine and no mutations that make it even worse) and for a better political situation in the United States. We all need health, safety, and stability before we can begin to enjoy things like Barbie. From a doll aspect, though, I really would like to see the pixellation issue go away on dolls that are at least partially collector-oriented. On a $50 doll, it should not be there at all. It seems to be really inconsistent, too. For example, from what I've heard, only one of the Barbie Extra dolls was bad. Even differences between batches of the same doll seem to be present. Perhaps boycotting pixellated products is the way to get the message across. If Mattel sells 20,000+ of these dolls and saves some money on production costs, what will motivate them to improve their quality? I haven't decided what I will do yet, but I am less likely to put down my cash on this doll now that I know she has some pixellation.

@@LifeinPlasticDolls If you order from Amazon or Walmart, you can return. I sent back a Wonder Woman set because there was missing paint on Steve's lower lip (and the box was damaged). That was the box I ordered to potentially replace the first one, in which Steve's lips are printed too far to the right, and there is a slightly lighter patch of paint on Diana's upper lip. I was debating ordering from somewhere else for a 3rd try, but I got it for a good price ($65 USD vs $103 USD regular price in Canada). So, I'll likely keep it and live with it this time.
