It is beautiful to see that she is still loved and valued even though she has no eyes. My last two bassets were special needs girls and they brought me such joy. Not a day goes by that I don't think about them and the other two that are now gone! I am thankful God allowed me to have such beautiful little girls! I plan to get another one a year from now.

@@meredith3415 Cody was surrendered to a rescue because her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She had already lost her eyes to glaucoma at that point. Despite that, she was a very happy dog and tough as nails.
My Basset is a paraplegic. He sits next to me at nearly all times. He is extremely food oriented. Handicapped or not, he is still my dog. I reached over and touched his head as I watched this video. Thanks.

If I put that piece of bacon right by his nose while he was sleeping, he would have just ate it and kept sleeping thinking it was a wonderful dream. My dog loves nothing more than a dog with a disability. There was an aggressive German Shepherd at the park that we use to go to and found out she was aggressive because she was blind. So she'd back herself into the corner of a fence and just bark and growl at anyone or any dog that came close. One day, my Lab tried to approach her and she growled at him but he just sat down near her. Within a few minutes, she was sitting right next him. He got up to walk around and she followed him wherever he went. Now, every time we go to the park, we'd drive up and see her in that corner. I get out of the car and she can hear my voice and knows Baron is here and she'll come running up to the door and before he can get into the park, she's giving him kisses until he starts to growl at her. She keeps kissing him and he just looks at me with a "really?" face.
my grandfather was raised on a huge farm. He always had tons of old dogs running around. His saying was "when the dog wont get up for bacon, its time to put him down".
You would be amazed how they can get around without sight. I've seen it first hand. You would think they're psychic. My wife and I have 4 hounds, all rescues. ( Had 5 until last month, lost Lucia to cancer. 2 yrs of treatment and the loss of sight) If it's not a Hound, it's just another dog..
Our own sense of smell isn't so bad either - we just don't develop any skill to use it in the way that dogs do. Intelligence and education has it's drawbacks as it pushes aside more natural skills that we have evolved over millions of years. Raise a child devoid of civilization and see just how well they can utilize their 5 senses vs a 'modern civilized' human being.

She's lovely. You should get a harness instead of a collar though. As no neck strap means it won't choke when pulled and is more comfortable. Also, carpet is better than hard floors for her feet and balance. As she won't slide. Much love to both of you.

My basset went blind at 6yrs old. She was already spoiled before that, and spoiled rotten by everyone afterward. She was a trooper and adjusted great.
