    Big thanks for this video, because you mentioned that vn800 wheel would fit, I decided to check out a 19 inch mag wheel from a 1996 BUBF and all I had to do was put the bearings and the spacers from the 16 inch spoke. Easy as hell. Also cheaper than a harley front wheel.

    I did the swap on mine.... stance is perfect. Rides great. I paired with a rear meanstreak rim and a 200 or 220 rear tire. Had to mod the swing arm and cus a bit but it fit.

      Nice! I like the look and ride of the 1500 better with the 21 as well. How did you have to change up the swingarm for the meanstreak rear wheel to fit?

      @@ThrashTestDummies I had to cut a notch in drive shaft tube and weld in a patch/ remove inner weld seem on right side inner swingarm. But..... I have to also remove the drive hub when removing wheel. (Remove 4 nuts on driveshaft tube.) The tire won't fit between the drive spline on left/ swingarm on right. But yeah totally changed the look with a small fender chop right below tail light, and delete front fender. The rim fits stock bike fine..... but to fit the tire I had to trim some metal

      As I stated in the beginning of the video, this is just to show people a direct swap option. You could realistically take any wheel off of any bike and put it on any other bike. This is to show people how to avoid having to do anything but swap out the wheel bearings.

    If you happen to feel the urge to replace the old analog speedo on one of them Vulcans (assuming they are old enough) & installing a newer digital speedo, you should definitely make a video on it bc I don't think I've found one yet that shows that process & I for one am looking to do that soon & hopefully add or it comes with a gas gauge on

    Dude, I'm subscribing just because of this video. Now, what I want to do even though it's a little bit of expense, is take my 1500 classic front wheel hub and bearings and have it re-laced to an Acron alloy front 21 with Twisted spokes. I just think that sounds badass. There's a dude called Pacific Mike that I watch he's a Harley mechanic and he's got a beautiful beautiful 52 Panhead and he leaves the original Fender but puts a 21 on the front and it looks so nice. I guess it kicks the front end up on the Vulcan because we have a small front wheel to begin with is that correct?

    I wondered about a 900custom front wheel (alloy), and the meanstreak rear 17" (alloy). But this 800 front spoked wheel may be the way to go.

  • @randyleis2828
    @randyleis2828 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finally found a rim and did the swap, the hub is not the same, the 1500 has a larger center tube which will not work in the 800 hub, and the 800 has no speedo pick up,had to do some really big mods to make it work.

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  ปีที่แล้ว

      The sleeve between the axles has to be changed along with the bearings. That is all. The hubs themselves are identical. Unless for some reason one of yours is from a different model than what is in the video. This was also showing the process being done on an fi model vulcan. They have electronic speed sensors and don't use a speedometer cable. If you did this on an older carbureted model that may be why you had more trouble. It would also explain the differences between the video and your personal experience.

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have videos of doing that. But if I were to do it I would look into shortening or deleting the fender struts and finding an old softail "ducktail" or a fat bob "bobtail" rear fender to start. You will have to do a little modification but those two fenders look pretty good on these bikes. The one on my bike in the picture I put in the video would be similar to a Harley Softail "ducktail" fender.

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  ปีที่แล้ว

      The dual brakes on the nomad are really there because of the assumption that the bike would be loaded down and duals would help it stop. But there is nothing wrong with eliminating one of the calipers. One of the videos on my list is centered around shaving forks. That would be a way for you to eliminate that caliper and the entire mount and have the slider look like it was never there.

    Can I make this work with the 800 mag wheels I love their new look?

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm actually not sure. I assume you mean the wheels from the 900 custom? The 800 came with spokes in all years and variations. Regardless, I would imagine it would be similar. Usually there won't be many changes on things like wheels. Companies like to keep cost down while producing several different models. Take the vulcan line for instance. If there are several different vulcan models, it would be cheaper to use the same bearings across all models, or at least bearings with all the same dimensions besides the ID to accommodate different axle sizes, than it would be to have several different bearing sizes. In short, I would research the dimensions of the bearing for the wheel you want and then cross reference that with the stock wheel on the bike you have. If the OD and thickness match, then you can put bearings for the wheel you have in the wheel you want. This video is an example of that since I put vulcan classic bearings in a vulcan 800 wheel since the only difference was the size of the axles on the bikes.
      That being said, a lot of the time the width of the hub and width of the front end (distance between forks) may be different. As will the position of the brake rotor in relationship to the caliper. What this means is you may have to space the wheel appropriately along with the brake caliper. It's not terribly difficult and not nearly as complicated as a lot of people seem to think. As long as the wheel is around 1/8 of an inch of center you will be fine. And caliper spacing usually consists of shimming the caliper in or out on the bracket that holds the caliper to the forks. Doing this may require machined axle spacers or machining or sanding off the thickness of the caliper bracket. But people have been doing this since the dawn of motorcycle customization. People on forums seem to spread the misinformation that processes like this are inherently expensive and complicated. 90% of the time this is untrue. The other 10% is because they're trying to put harley (SAE measured) wheels on a metric bike.
      In any case I say go for it. And as I said, cross referencing parts will save you from buying a new wheel without knowing if it will work. ID doesn't matter if the rest of the measurements from your stock wheel will match the same measurements in the wheel you want.
      Let me know if you need help with this. I have been building motorcycles since I was 12. I can likely also make a video to post just for you to show the process if putting wheels on a bike that come from a totally different bike.

    Got my sub bro. Can you answer me a question tho? I got an old 89 1500 that was my pops, been looking for some decent performance parts (engine has a bad back cyclinder), what place you recomend?

    • @ThrashTestDummies
      @ThrashTestDummies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those models of the Vulcan 1500 are regarded as the best performing non mean streak Vulcans in the 1500 family. They come with hotter cams, different timing, and more power than the newer generations. So much so that doing a cam swap from your generation to mine is considered one of the best bolt on power modifications you can do. As far as performance parts, I am sorry to tell you that the aftermarket is just not there. This is why I am trying to bring attention to these bikes. There is no reason for them to be put on the sidelines. They have massive potential. Everyone seems to go after these small displacement bikes to build "bobbers" (not actual bobbers, mostly just hacked up bikes) and they complain about wanting more power. But the look past the Vulcans! In the coming months I will have a few upgrades available for a lot of them. A lot of this will be various services like head work, throttle body or carb work and upgrades, certain composite fiberglass and carbon fiber parts, etc.. Unfortunately, until then you will have to scour forums and try and see if any of the old parts built by individuals are still available.
      Thanks for watching the video! I am in the process of making part 2 now. The bike is on and off the lift around customers bikes, but I think the second installment of this series will really show people the potential of these bikes.
