    Please do a video about the difference between 5-7-9 speakers in the main plane and also a video on the addition of height speakers (also 2-4-6 speakers)
    Where are the biggest differences, how much better is 9 speakers to 7?
    (5.2.2 vs 7.2; 5.2.4 vs 9.2; 7.2.2 vs 9.2;..)
    With a given (fairly limited) budget would you go for 5.2 with good (high end) equipment (and more akoustic treatment) or a 7.2.4 (or something else) with cheaper (but still good) equipment.

    • @DMSparky
      @DMSparky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience properly setup 5.2 can sound better then cheaper 7.2.4. I have 7.2.4 and honestly you almost never hear the atmos unless you turn the gain on the channels way way up. 9/10 times I’d take the more dynamic, resolving system over the one with more channels. If you are wiring up a new build it’s easy to pull extra cables for future use and add some inexpensive atmos speakers later down the line.

    Gene I can't wait until I get my SVTR tower speakers +center. I'm not getting the extra top subs but I am going to be doing my own FIR crossover DSPing for them and run them fully active - not with 2x Pascal XPro3 + SPro2, but probably work other Pascal down to earth power amps like maybe the LPro2HPs + TPro2 + SPro2s. It's the only way to go. I'm glad this is catching on.
    For my senior project because in college I took an old Yamaha RX-V2400 receiver (with the schematics) and hijacked the I2S right before the DACs, pulled it into an FPGA, wrote an I2S decoder and encoder from scratch and FIR bi-amped (borrowing unused rear channel) a pair of RBH 661SEs. Amazing difference in imaging and smoothness when you go linear phase active crossovers.

    Great Video - and similar to me :) ok Through various videos here at YT - including yours - inspire me to continue my project -> a high-end screening room for editing and reviewing videos with colleagues and clients.
    For this project I bought 2 apartments (a 120sqm) in Hamburg in December 2019 and will rebuild them accordingly.
    The problem is that they are apartments and everything has to be moved out - the advantage is that this building is new and all inside walls can be moved out :)
    So I have a lot of free space - at the end of 2020 the 3rd apartment will be about 80qm.
    So I have about 300 square meters to tinker everything.
    That will be a lot of fun. A

    Great stuff! Now all that must be done is for you to buy me house of my choice, and beuild a theater room to my specifications.
    And -- hopefully -- without batteries.

    I too am looking at building a 9.2.6 home theater using RBH speakers. I was planning on using 9 of the SV-831R's for 3 behind AT screen, 2 each side and 2 for surround. I'm going to go with 2-JTR 4000 Subwoofers, and 6 RBH Atmos speakers. For processor I have two options, the new ATI 16-channel or the Trinnov Altitude 16. All speakers will be powered with ATI Class D amps. All wires will come from BlueJeans.
    I would like to go with a 180" AT Screen. Do you think the RBH speakers will work just fine behind such a large screen? For projector I'm considering the JVC NX9 or JVC 4k Laser.
    I can't wait to see your setup when it is finished!

    Gene, years back I remember you saying that you did not use an AT screen because you wanted to focus primarily on audio. Have you been pleased with the Screen Innovations AT screens or this more of a compromise?

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      AT screens are much better than the old perforated screens back in the day. The advantages of mounting a vertically oriented matching speaker to the left/rights st the same ear height are now too great to ignore when the option exists.

    I would put ribs or troughs between speakers you don't want the energy to travel along the wall behind screen and cancel each other out, partition the speakers the end speakers and the centre ones from the end ones otherwise it's going to sound muddy and poor soundstage, I'm not sure the end ones should be flat to the surface have them protruding out a little bit say 6" from the wall and on a slight angle of 5- 10 degrees towing in.
    Ideally you want to get rid of the corner as well you should put side baffles built-in 3 ft across not necessarily 45 degrees depending on the Sitting position 30 degrees to the Longwall might be better, but you don't want any base energy to be stored in the corners that's not going to sound good specially for music.
    What happened to the idea of putting subwoofers in the ceiling not doing that now!
    Oh and any big speaker even if it's in its own box you need to put some rockwool behind the back of the speaker and on the sides of the speaker, cutdown resonant in the speaker and in the room and the building.
    Lined curtains is always a good idea and especially if somebody can't do the construction, line curtains can work very well lined curtains with natural wool fleece quarter of an inch, doesn't have to be thick normal thickness of curtains make the track go round the corner from the front of the screen to the side walls not square just one big curtain to the sidewalls about a third of the Longwall or further put the curtain rails on blocks give yourself a couple of inch gap between the curtain and the wall that sort out the base energy problems

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is only one speaker behind the screen, the center channel. The Left/Right speakers are 7ft+ towers.

  • @geickmei
    @geickmei 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The drawing in the video shows a 135 inch, 16x9 screen in a 20 ft wide room. If so, you are doing it wrong.You could fit an 18 ft wide screen in there easily, with a 2.76:1 aspect widescreen. Otherwise, you are looking at letterboxed widescreen. NOT state of the art!

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not putting a wider screen bc it will block the main speakers. 140" diagnol is plenty big.

    • @geickmei
      @geickmei 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Audioholics The point is, with a projector, when a widescreen movie comes on, you should zoom the picture bigger and wider, maintaining the same height, NOT go letterboxed. That is the idea of the motorized lens with 10 presets. Your speakers should be no higher than the bottom of the screen to make this possible. A theater should be BIG.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@geickmei and most theater rooms prioritize visual over audio. I prefer the very best sound over worrying about black bars occasionally.
