Thank you for this video and the reference to the pattern. I found the pattern on eBay and your tips and techniques helped me figure out how to make the dress I found online!
I recently bought a bodkin and it was a lifesaver for an elastic waist dress I made. Highly reccommend if you don't have one. Love this dress and hope to try your other shirred dress soon!
I love this! There’s a dress I just saw on tiktok that is very similar to this but has a wrap front/back part so the dress is convertible and this tutorial helped me a lot with visualizing how to make the sleeves/bodice work!
I can tell how much effort you put into these videos it’s amazing! Thank you for being so clear and showing how to do it step by step, I’m so excited to try making this dress!!
Hi! Love this, have already started making my own! Any advice on how to use the comma shaped ruler / curved rulers? New to them and I’m not sure really sure about using them 😊
Oh my goodness! I can’t believe you’re on YT! I don’t know if you remember me from the good old blogging days, but I was one of the Boyer Sisters. So fun to come across your fabulous channel. You’ve got a new subscriber. 💕
The sleeves are everything!! I adore this. Maybe I’ll get a chance to make it next month! (This month it’s all about getting the kiddo ready for school)
Hi I'd love to attempt to make this. How easy os it as beginner please? The fabric you have is gorgeous. I've only tried shirring once and it was a disaster for me. Also the sweetheart necline is so cute. I need to watch this a few times I think. Those sleeves are absolutely adorable especially as I've lost weight and have flabby wrinkly arms. I've my mind set on this now. Thank you so much 💓
What a beautiful dress! I love the sleeves. I don' t sew myself, but I enjoy watching your videos. The piano music in the video is beautiful - is it you who are playing? Thanks for the video☀️🌺
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! ❤️ It's not me playing although I am a pianist-- I just use recordings right now, but I'd love to make some of my own sometime! :)
@@LaurenJohnson I would love to hear you play the piano! I used to play a lot but after my children were born I haven't played at all. How much do you practice? Do you work as a pianist? 🌸🌼
Hey Lauren, the shoulder straps stay put the whole day or slide down and you have to pull those up ? Very pretty. I love the way you created the armholes.
Hi Lauren! Do you think this would turn out well with double gauze? I need a dress for a wedding in 3 days and planned to make one like this, but I’ve been so intimidated to start… also I need the skirt to be fuller to accommodate a baby belly, any tips for that? Thank you!
Hi Claudia! I think this would be so pretty in double gauze-- I just bought some in a rose color, and while I have other plans for it, now you've got me thinking I need to make it into a dress! To make sure the dress can accommodate a baby belly, I'd recommend using the measurements from my shirred sundress video-- it has a lot of room in the skirt, but a fabric like double gauze should still shrink up a lot with the shirring. The bust area will be a little more roomy, but the stretch and the sleeves should make everything comfortable. I hope this helps-- good luck!
Beautiful. May I ask how many rolls of elastic thread you used with this project? Also when sewing the mid sleeve elastic, does a straight stitch work or did you use a narrow zig zag?
Thank you so much Noemi! I used one package of narrow elastic, one spool of shirring elastic, and 22 inches of the 1/2 inch elastic (I had this on a larger spool in my stash.) To sew the mid sleeve elastic I used a straight stitch. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️
Hi ...when you said after you did the bodice after the armholes you shirred continuously are you saying that you did not do shirr row then shirr another row? Are you saying you shirred like a spring...I am asking as I want to make this dress 👗 😏
Hi there! So sorry, I think I worded that in a confusing way! I shirred in rows, but because I was past the armhole, it became a loop for each row since the pieces were connected at the side seams. I hope this helps! 😊
I don't get how you get to match the sleeve to the dress. I've follow like 10 tutorials of this dress and none of them have been useful, the sleeves just don't match the bodice....
Hi there! You just want to make sure you have the same curve for the armhole on the bodice as you do at the end of the sleeves. Then once the sleeves are assembled, match the curves with the right sides together and sew them in place. It’s like you just sew half of the sleeve to the bodice!
I love that you cut out armholes! I've been trying to figure out how to make one of these dresses high enough to cover my girls... Thank you!
It is a very lovely dress. Its simplicity is it's beauty. Thank you so much for sharing.
I too want to make this❣️Its sleeves so cute😊

Thank you so much Rachel! I hope you get a chance to try it! Can't believe it's already school prep time! ❤️
What a beautiful dress! I always wondered how the shirring is done. Is this the same as "smocking?"
ILove it !!!
Thank you so much Helen!!
great video - what measurement did you use for the drawstring?
Beautiful dress and super clear tutorial.
Where’s the fabric of the black top you’re wearing from?
Thank you so much Nadia! That fabric is from Rifle Paper Company!
This dress is so pretty!! I’d love to make one but I don’t have a serger - how would you recommend finishing off the edges without a serger?
do you have a link for the pattern? I'm super intimidated about making my own pattern, but i'd love to sew along with you on this project!!
I like it
Thank you!
I have one of those arm hole rulers but i have no clue how to use it to measure my armholes.

Thank you so much! I used two yards!
Hey Lauren, the shoulder straps stay put the whole day or slide down and you have to pull those up ? Very pretty. I love the way you created the armholes.
This would be my first time sewing a dress with the sewing machine. If I went with a cotton fabric would that work too? Would it change anything ?
It should be the same as long as it’s a woven fabric! 🩷
Cool thanks
heeey it's very pretty i think ill be doing it but with more covering in the neck area ...does coton bedsheets fabric works for this kind of dress?
That sounds lovely! I think cotton bed sheet fabric would be perfect!
It is so cute! Do you backstich when sewing in the smocking?
Thank you Stefani! Yes, I do! I use backstitching to lock it in place at the start of each row as well as at the end. Thanks so much for watching!
❤️
