Underrated bei John Mayer, Steely Dan, Sting, Toto, Harry Belafonte, Grover Washington Jr, James Taylor ... please be careful with the usage of "underrated". Maybe the heavy metallists don't know him. But as a "drummer of the year (2007)" - fusion and pop - real musicians know him
He's got that Meters/Southern/Zigaboo thing that none of em quite have. More of a composer than Bonham, more chops than Gadd. And he's got this groove/Jack DeJohnette thing but it's all his. All the reasons these great pro musicians choose him.
More chops than Gadd? Damn. That's a statement. Definitely more chops than Porcaro, but I don't know about Gadd. Where would you put compared with Tony Williams or Bernard Purdie?
Keith is really amazing...tasteful, smooth, has a phat pocket and a perfect touch...but is too one-dimensional. What he does is really wonderful, but it is always the same thing. It is a schtick. It isn't a bad thing if that is all he wants to play, but it will limit his opportunities in the future as that schtick won't find many venues other than drum clinics or in the dying genre of blues-rock.
Keith Carlock is a top tier musician, I'm confident in saying that he can play any style and get any sound that he wants. This is a drum solo in a clinic situation. You shared your opinion so I thought I would share mine :)
Bro have you seen the list of people he’s played for? He definitely has his own unique voice for his solos at drum clinics/festivals. But don’t fret. I’m sure he isn’t lacking for work lol
I literally put on a keith Carlock drumsolo whenever I'm cleaning. I get that shit done asap!
I get too distracted and stop cleaning.... like right now...
Friggin’ love this dudes playing it’s just so damn groovy and that nasty backbeat he constantly employs in all his solos, just tasty stuff!!
Dude is awesome. The pocket is silly! I love the sound he gets during those grooves with the bass drum and left hand. Pure Genius...
Amazing! Dude is one of the greats
What a spectacular player. He knows how to tease with the feel maybe better than anyone I've heard. Totally pulls you in.
His tuning, his feel and technique. Keith is an amazing player full of fluidity and awesome groove!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a underrated drummer everybody gets on Benny greb and JoJo Mayer bandwagon? This guy's technique is incredible
They're ALL great musicians.
Yeah, one of my faves. Keith, Jost Nickel, "Sput" Searight, and Damien Schmitt are my current woodshed influences.

Dont care what musicians look like. Pay attention to what they sound like. Keith has it all going on. One of the best!!
Keith C is a monster player. One of the best on the planet. Period
So ORIGINAL ! ...Every Thing That Man Plays.. A True Great .
Man, does that kit ever sound GOOD... and the chops!!? What could I possibly add to that... ?
Excellent..!!!!!
Been waiting so long for this!
The guy is a groove master
Guy is the beast!
This dude has UNBELIEVABLE control....!!!
Wonderful.
Wow!
Excellent!👏
Finding that organic sound all over
Fucking incredible!!!
Savage !
Suits me fine!! Actually his combo of funk/Bonham/Gadd/jazz is so close to complete as it gets.

I love his cat!
Is that a Gretsch Brooklyn 4x14 Steel snare?
Not just great chops and groove but damn...excavating tone from that kick. Clearly playing OFF the kick and not burying the beater.
Ed Soph his teacher does a lesson on it check it out.
Keith’s playing always sounded to me like what John Bonham might sound like on steroids
Still with Gretsch....which model.
brooklyn series last i heard
USA custom dudezz
Did he switch to evans?
Yes
sadly yes.. well.. the only thing i dont like about him ;-)
@@HR2635 why? Evans rock! Same as remo and Aquarian 👍🏽

Clearly a schtick. So obvious to all of us watching.
@9:19 ... go there and tell me he's monotone, dude. He's a chameleon. He can hack it with any band out there.
He needs to hit the gym
Fuck off, you need to hit the practice room
would guess he's not pleased about putting the weight back on...
@@TheZooNinjaS just got back you fat fuck.
Why do people feel they need to write stupid stuff like this.
Sounds as good as ever. Looks as out of shape as ever.
Youd take being his size to have half the talent that he has.
