    That dresser looks gorgeous!! Great discovery behind that kicktoe apron!!! I just have to tell you how impressed I am with the HGTV paint!!!! OMG it is just like you say Shannon!! I have to say that I will say goodbye to chalk paint after trying this paint; it’s smooth, easy to apply with the brush and foam rolling technique and YES!! 🙌 superb adhesion!My nails did nothing to it, furthermore, I did a paint wash over my HGTV paint and I was able to wipe with a wet rag with no problems whatsoever!! This is a game changer for me!!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, creativity and discoveries with us, much blessings!!

    100% right about the handles, as it gives the piece contrast, which is a very attractive way to enhance furniture. Well done!

    I find spot priming where I used wood filler helps. I'll do two applications of wood filler and then spot prime the places with wood filler with clear shellac so that it absorbs the paint the same way as the rest of the wood that has a finish on it.

    Nice job!
    I think they're tongue depressors not popsicle sticks. You should drill holes in the tongue depressors that line up with the drawer pulls, then you can use them as templates for the holes.

    • @daveparker839
      @daveparker839 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same and then realized that by doing it the way she does, she doesn’t have to ensure the holes are straight. She just uses the tongue depressor as a guide and a straight edge.

    I wanted to pass along a process I use for final clear coat that is same as sprayed. Use oil based polyurethane use an old plastic bowl you can throw away and mix 1/2 mineral spirits or Xylol (Xylene) to 1/2 polyurethane. Take a thin cotton rag I use the white cup towels like you use in the kitchen they must be lint free and cut into a 4" or 6" square folded three or four times. You want to wear a latex surgical type glove then really wet your rag and start to apply to the surface just making sure to wipe on a thin coat & let dry a lot of times I let it dry overnight. Next sand between coats using 1000 or 2000 grit paper remove dust and wipe with sticky cheesecloth to ensure all dust is removed then apply another coat of polyurethane repeating process until you have the amount of coats you desire after the last coat is applied and sanded I go back and wipe with a very very thin just damp application of polyurethane for the last coat and no further sanding I use this application for any project including kitchen cabinets and high gloss it produces a beautiful finish.

    Sherwin-Williams has a paint in their "Emerald" line that is a Urethane Trim Enamel. It sells for $100.00 a gallon but it's worth every penny. The quarts sell for 40 so it only makes sense to buy a gallon. I am getting ready to spray my cabinets, the legs and base on our table and our island so when you think of it like that the paint doesn't seem so expensive. I am going to give this paint you have here a try though. SW makes good paint no question about it.

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used that paint before and it dries slowly and for my working conditions (in the garage w/debris around) I had a lot of trouble with dust and what not falling into my finish before it dried. I’m sure indoors would be awesome though. I did really like the durability of it and it leveled nicely

    Turned out beautiful! I’m brand new to painting furniture and there is so much for me to learn. I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Algonquin. I would like to try to put a decorative wax in white to highlight all the crevices and the decorative wood French country inlays that I glued on to the front of the drawers. Do you think that would look together? I just found you a couple of days ago and you make it so easy to do. I hope I will get over being so nervous 😩

    For the wood filler test, I pledge an out-of-field option; Automotive body filler. It's available to online, anywhere and formulated for sanding so results you'll like I think. Try the cheapest one on Amazon maybe? Love the talk over detail and you explain what the methods are, those you use and the alternatives. But then explain how the others differ in how they work. So I've learnt three methods not the names of three mtehods I then have to go look up. And yep, still think you're bloody brilliant. Keep waggling that paintbrush, because that reveal at the end with the old one? I now blame you for the carpet burn on my chin.

    Hi Shannon, hoping I can ask an unrelated question. I recently stained an old wooden lazy Susan I had in the kitchen, (ok, so two days ago) the only stain I had was a min wax oil based stain. (Didn’t feel like running out and getting a water based). So I used it and it turned out beautiful, however, it’s been drying in a heated workshop downstairs for two days and it’s still very tacky. Do I wait until the tackiness goes away before I spray on the poly? And…..if I spray an oil based poly on top, will it then become tacky again? I’m not sure how oil based stains work to be honest, first time using one. Oh and is there such a thing as a water based poly? BTW, sorry this dresser is FAB!!!!

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oil can take a while to dry, just give it some time, and you’re right to wait until it is dry to paint the clear coat on. You can use any clear coat, oil or water works great but I prefer Varathane water based polyurethane or Minwax polycrylic. Sounds like it’ll be a great looking lazy Susan!

    • @karenwilson7295
      @karenwilson7295 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blacksheephouse Thank so much for helping me. Ok I’ll keep waiting, still tacky tonight. So I’ll leave it alone til dry. Morning! Love this black dresser.What a difference once the bottom is removed.
    I have a question about another of your videos from a while back - I'm currently in the process of re-creating your Pottery Barn Sausalito finish (which I LOVE ❤️). Using the Behr Rugged Tan as you suggested, and it's still tacky after 3 days. 🤷 Is this normal? I waited 12+hours between coats so didn't rush it and I also thoroughly prepped. Any idea what's happening? Has this happened to you using Behr paint? TIA for any advice.
