I found that I got cancer in 2008. Now I'm alive though still have it through its ups and downs. Thank God for this kind of miracle. God's grace works in me different way.
Hello from England. I have just watched this film. I am only commenting as, I was watching as one does casually I guess, and then the story grew on me. By the end I was/am, in floods of tears. I am not a religious person, but this story really did get to me. Very interesting. To explain, My own husband does not have cancer, but is in hospital as I write, with terminal lung disease. I want him to live, he's such a vibrant character, so bold, such a difficult customer, he would say. I'm realising that I'm talking to myself via the world's Internet, a bit of therapy maybe. I miss him, and I love him so much. The tears are calm now. Thanks for your time and the film. Xx
Hello,. I am a Christian reared woman as my father was a First Presbyterian Minister here in U.S.A. I love my Lord. I believe in the power of prayer. I will pray for you and your husband. God bless you.
Hello, I'm currently watching the movie, and I want to say, I'm sorry to hear concerning your husband. I don't have a partner myself, but my buddy, and the only one I have to go to the supermarket, the city or to count on for any support (my mom),has been struck down by illness. From Tinnitus, to sudden weight loss, to numbness in her legs which has meant she now can't walk without aid. So it means even the stuff I could count on her for, i now have to do; so all the pressure is squarely on my shoulders; and I don't have any family or friends, and I'm the sole breadwinner, and we rent an apartment. So yeah I miss my mom, I fear she's gonna end up in the hospital; while my ultimate fear is that I'll lose her completely. So I'm suffering. Sorry for the rant, but I don't have anyone to talk to, so I'm just venting. All the best to you and your husband.
I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. Sending many prayers your way! If you’d want to talk more about eternal families like they talk about in this movie please reach out and I’d be happy to share more with you❤
After my mom passed I was gathering photos for the service. After I had collected the ones I wanted I walked across the room and the music chime rang in her wedding album and I was nowhere near it and It had to be more than 30 years since it was last wound up. I was surprised it even still worked. I just looked up and said "ok mom". So that seen at the end really hit home with me. After I retired I started volunteering at a Marian Shrine and I see so many people struggling with illness and grief it is both heartbreaking and humbling but I can't imagine spending my days any other way. I find a peace there I have never found anywhere. Have faith my friends, count your blessings and be well.
Condolences on your loss. While I am aware, acutely, that this neither salves nor soothes present pain, I hope you hold out hope, one day, for a Glorious Reunion. Warm Regards and Best Wishes.
losing a son and losing a best friend this was the most beautiful movie to explain never stop loving or caring or believing but able to let go and know you will see them again and they are safe and loved
I am filled with tears and am tired of writers leaving us with sad endings. I am 81 and still drive like a 20 year old. Do not feel right that so many of my life long friends have died. American retired 14 years ago to the Philippines. Have made many foreigner and have a group of 30 I am the oldest, seven of my friends who were much younger than me have died. Wish God would just take me, life is not the same anymore so seeing movies like this is not good for my mental health. MKL&ML
Just be grateful and blessed that you still have life. God still has things he wants you to do in this world. Dont feel bad or guilty that youve survived while loved ones have moved on. Theyre waiting on you. It will be as no time has elapsed. Dont take for granted what has been denied to others, more time. Use it wisely to show Gods love. Make new friends and enjoy the time you have left with them. We arent promised tomorrow. Gods blessings to you.
The most profound film about real life and hope. I have seen this film many times. The art gallery scene in the red room where she examines the scenes of the Cross and Gethsemane was not in the DVD. I wish they kept that in the final release. The music was so moving and deep to capture her thoughts of her conversion.
Happened the same here. I watched hundreds from the DVD and today I decided we can watch it again together and yeah. That scene is totally new to me and I love it so much…
That scene was filmed and added later for the 10-Year anniversary theatrical re-release (That's also the case for a few other scenes too). It's a great scene, isn't it?
The security guard at 32:20 is my grandfather who passed away in 2015. I sometimes come back and watch this whenever I think about him. He had great things to say about this experience and always gave high praise to the lead actress for doing a great job.
@@samuelworkman51 appreciate it! He was actually in nothing else as far as i know, i could have this story wrong but years ago i was told that the director or someone showed this clip from the movie Charly to some people and they loved it, so they called my grandpa to come in for an audition for some other very minor roles. He went to that but once he got there they dropped it on him to basically do an improv audition and come up with his own lines on the spot 😂 he did not do so well at that and I think he felt a little embarrassed at how it went so he left and never went back to another one.
I had no idea what I was in for when I finally decided to watch this. It kept showing up in my feed. What a beautiful movie and I’m still sitting here sobbing. Blessings to everyone 🙏🏼❤️
One of the best pictures I have seen in ages. While I am not in least bit religious, this is a moving story about two people from opposite sides of life, searching and finding each other. Only, they do not get their happily ever after. However, their journey to true love is a joyous ride you want to experience.
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The directing and acting are as perfect as the movie plot. As we grow into cynical and disappointed adults, the tragedy is if we don't get to understanding and wisdom. It is hard to express in words. But I feel fortunate that I was moved by the grace of this movie. Anything else is elaboration, or mundane. A profound experience for the fortunate few seeking wisdom with deep emotion. Remember the innocent soul? The clean slate awaits us all.
Ahhh, the early 2000s, when we gazed at pencil sketches of our exes because we didn’t have cell phones with hundreds and hundreds of pictures of them. Nostalgia.
Beautiful, yet...when I came from Judaism & asked Jesus to forgive my past overdrinking and sinful life to be my best friend. I am not in the 'feel it cult of Mormonism. I stick to the Bible and live in joy and peace/shalom of Him. Isaiah 53 showed me the way as a Jew to know the Messiah from His prophecies and a prayer to come to know Him..
I found this movie to be quite profound and pivotal. If it is (I haven't looked), this would be an excellent book to discuss. For myself, some of the biggest takeaways are the way principals of faith, yet individuals, are shaped in vastly different ways (also with that, the tests and challenges). Lastly, the ending reflection, where Sam is talking about Charly, and how he may have missed seeing the miracle. Sometimes, the duration of the marriage/relationship isn't about how many years. it's the essence of the miracle of true love itself.
The restaurant that Sam and Charly go to that has the view of the temple is the Roof at temple square. My husband and I have been there a couple of times, and the food is delicious
Forgive a thought: When so much effort goes into making a delightful film like _Charly,_ why not give it the format it deserves-High Definition 1080p Blu Ray. It shows that the production company thinks enough of their own work to at least use a current format to present it. DVD is outdated and yields inferior image and sound, and the disc itself is subject to deterioration. Blu Ray discs cost mere pennies more. This film deserved better. All those who were involved in making it deserved better.
It is hilarious at the amount of alcohol ads that were shown during my viewing of this after listening to the God Awful podcast. I’m sure Heath’s liver was projecting itself into the TH-cam ad algorithm.
thanks yet, really? Well I don't drink since at 21 when I asked Jesus to forgive my past overdrinking and sinful life to be my best friend. I am not in the 'feel it cult of Mormonism. I stick to the Bible and live in joy and peace/shalom of Him. Isaiah 53 showed me the way as a Jew to know the Messiah from His prophecies and a prayer to come to know Him..

OMG I never had cried too much I'm single i am rm but I longing to be married and watching this movie was IDK how to describe the feelings but I love it
This one hit home for me. My sister-in-law, who is one of the finest people I have ever known, died of cancer a few years ago. I've never asked him, and I don't know if he's ever seen it, but I would be surprised if it didn't have a similar effect on my brother. Sometimes, as the incomparable, inimitable Elder Neal A. Maxwell said so well, there isn't any around. While (having attracted, successfully, the collective indifference of the female of the species in its entirety) I wouldn't know how it is to lose [at least temporarily] someone to whom I am that close, all of us, at one time or another and in one way or another, face that "dark night of the soul." Certainly, there are questions to which I would like to have answers (how I have "attracted" the indifference of the fairer gender being one). Many of the answers await resolution elsewhere. (Either that, or, eventually, the questions themselves cease to matter).
Heather a jucat foarte bine. Acum o văd pentru prima dată,dar o să caut un alt film cu ea; aș vrea să o văd jucând într-un film de acțiune sau dramă. Aștept sugestii .
Once Charly was getting pains I already knew where the story was going. I stopped watching once I found out she got cancer. Didn't want to ruin the movie for myself.
Whew.... that was unexpected. Mormons have a whole bunch of loopty loo added text and doctrine in their Bible's that aren't in the real Bible and that contradict a lot of scripture. BUT, the movie itself was deep and real and promoted Biblical and family values as well as the strength of love, so I give it a big thumbs up.
It was a beautiful story wasn't it. Did you know that the Book of Mormon is actually not our Bible, but another Testament of Jesus Christ in addition to the Bible.
@@donnaramirez1579 And it's not that "loopty loo" once you actually read it! The Book of Mormon is in fact quite beautiful and spiritually uplifting. It's a very misunderstood faith.
There is no real bible. (Which actually means book). It’s all fictional stories, fairy tales, parables, from thousands of years ago….contradictions, hearsay, written long after supposed events. Lots of evil, killing etc. by an alleged, all loving creator. Anyone who has ever really read it knows this. No gods. All myth-illogical.
Jesus said we would do greater things than him 😊 it's plain that almost every one who claims to believe simply doesn't.... faith grows as we exercise it , first in small ways.. ask God In Faith and it is given! For most it seems to simple but it truly works... not by pleading because when we ask in full faith we actually feel assured and that is where the power is because We are all Creators made in God's parfect image! God bless you and all ❤
Interesting... Is this really painted from Jesus of Nazareth? I've got to go back to check it out. I looked into this painting. It was partly done by an accomplished Utah artist (I forget his name). Anyway, if you're a Jesus of Nazareth fan, you might be happy to know that they're preparing to release it in 4k sometime this year or next. : )
@PeterLassig - Thank you for your encouraging reply 🫠 I am a fan, as you said, both ways! Also red (twice) the book Zefirelli wrote about the making of the film 😇 Thank you again for your comment - it is a best reminder ⏰️
This movie didn't restore my faith. It just proved to me that no one gets a happily ever after. I can't believe in a God that can do something like this. Why live a Godly life if he allows this? It's really hard to watch some one that you love die this way and still believe in God. Lost my faith in God when he allowed my mom to die of lung cancer in December 2020.
I hope someone could write a script based on the last two books. I think it could be a good movie. Hopefully someone in the church entertainment area reads this.
MOVIES STARTS STRONG BUT OVER PUSHER OF GOD AS MORMON AND I DONT WATCH MOVIES WITH SAD ENDINGS... JESUS IS NOT A MORMON... HE IS THE OWNER OF THE THE HEVENS & WHOLE WORLD & GOD IS A CHRISTIAN JEW. LET'S NOT DIVIDE GOD & ADD BOOKS TO THE KJB BIBLE. HOWEVER, I KNOW GOD SAYS NO ALCOHOL BECAUSE WE ENTER SALVATION AS IN A CHILDS EYES AND JESUS ADOPTS US...
Praise the Heavenly Father because Jesus is here. He can heal all of this hurt. Because of Him families truly can be together for forever. Death is not the end.❤
this is the worst movie Ive ever watched . .. it had me literally uncontrolably crying like a girl . . . so, so bad . . . I was literally heartbroken every time Ive watched it . . . I know what its going to do to me, but I cant help myself
Well, if this movie doesn't make you laugh hysterically and then flood you with tears, I don't know of many that will! God doesn't always give us answers, but as long as he knows what they are, that's why we have faith in him to do what's best for us even when we don't agree or don't understand! (Someone will respond with, "There's no God!"It's your choice to believe what you want too!

Though I wouldn’t call either a masterpiece, the original cut of the film is far superior. This one makes the messaging even more heavy handed.

I need to see it again. Grateful for the reminder
@PeterLassig - Thank you for your encouraging reply 🫠
I am a fan, as you said, both ways!
Also red (twice) the book Zefirelli wrote about the making of the film 😇
Thank you again for your comment - it is a best reminder ⏰️
An LDS movie!
Wonderful
It really was good sad 😢in the end. May I ask is this a true story? But, then again things like this happen in real life.
❤❤ let's watch and see thumbs up ?????
Sam went on to marry 7 more wives ….he sees Charley on Tuesdays ❤
This movie didn't restore my faith. It just proved to me that no one gets a happily ever after. I can't believe in a God that can do something like this. Why live a Godly life if he allows this? It's really hard to watch some one that you love die this way and still believe in God. Lost my faith in God when he allowed my mom to die of lung cancer in December 2020.
Thank you for your sincerity. I also appreciate your trying to restore your faith
Lance delegated to a great crew in front of and behind the camera so that ideas matter. Thank You
I hope someone could write a script based on the last two books. I think it could be a good movie. Hopefully someone in the church entertainment area reads this.
This movie makes me wish Mystery Science Theater 3000 were still a thing. It would be perfect for their panning commentary.😅
It is. There’s also Rifftrax and The Mads are Back; all people from MST3K. But I guess you’ll have to settle for God Awful Movies.
😪😪😪😪 perfect film,
Thank you for watching!
Wish it was a better ending
Happily ever after
Praise the Heavenly Father because Jesus is here. He can heal all of this hurt. Because of Him families truly can be together for forever. Death is not the end.❤
15m53s heard some1 say last week "they have a science degree & can they believe there's a God... & stuff"
Is it about Mormon
Yeah, it's an old movie adaptation of a mormon romance novel.
@@unicorntamer2207 Thanks for your answer; that saves me from watching this movie. 🙂
this is the worst movie Ive ever watched . .. it had me literally uncontrolably crying like a girl . . . so, so bad . .
