Jonathan this song has a particular resonance with me. When I was 17 years old, I met a girl...blue eyes and blonde, blonde hair. Extremely pretty girl. She took an interest in me. I was the ugly duckling Jonathan...you know, the kid nobody talked to at school. I fell for this girl so hard. We dated for about 3 months and she broke it off. It tore me up Jonathan. I remember one night I got up out of bed and got dressed. I walked out the door and walked the 6 miles to her house. I sat under her bedroom window and cried and cried and cried. She really broke my heart. After about 20 minutes I got up and walked home. I never thought of her again. I put her out of my thoughts. This song reminds me of her, and I have fond memories. They are sad and still make me tear up...but I can only hope she found happiness Jonathan....I'm 52 years old now.....

Was a fan of this song long before I got my driving licence. Drove to this song for the first time recently (Friday, 12/01/2024), and it is powerful! I see myself in you when watching this, what a great tune!
Jonathan started the song without an intro. He wasn't messing around with this song. This used to be my favorite song from the Nocturnal EP but now all 7 tracks are my favorite! Timecop1983 produces the most brutal and blunt synth basses I've ever heard. His work on this track is phenomenal and his Arcade Dreams remix from The Midnight "Kids" album I think tops this song in terms of its instrumentation (which I highly recommend you give it a listen). Keep up the greatly produced reactions and have a Merry Christmas :D Now I have to go pop this EP in my CD player again and wait for the vinyl to restock on The Midnight's merch store.

You speak of, so I will put that one on the list (thanks for that) ahhh yeah I want to order all the vinyl. Gunship just put their debut album on cassette again and I preordered that. So looking forward for that to come in. Hopefully we get that vinyl soon tho.

This was the song that introduced me to The Midnight... I haven't looked back since. I've seen them twice, live, and it was the greatest concert of my life. It warms my heart that there are others out there that appreciate The Midnight as much as I do. I love you all, and keep on keeping on with your love of this 💕

The sax bridge actually starts off with a more positive/optimistic tone at 4:07. If the rest of the song has a pleading sound, it is different there with a reassuring sound, as if to say everything will be alright. You even seen to smile at it at 4:20. Although it's never bad to smile around 420 anyway......... :D

Another classic song from The Midnight. Virtually perfect. The tempo, vibe, driving beat, sax, its all just an intoxicating blend of sound, heart and feels. One of their best in my opinion. And I can relate to your sentiment about how the song makes you feel.

My man, this is a song that speaks to everyone in different ways, and there's something to be said about that also ... especially in the lyrics where The Midnight say "what if there's no answer, we're all just hearts that have to fight..." They are trying to speak to the individual on a personal level, even trying to get them to think about things, even.
You don't run in to music like this very often, so, in my book, every part of this song is a gem to be treasured.
This song to me is about trying to deal with heartache and depression by traveling or wandering. The writer makes a fitting analogy of sailing a long, unknown river while contemplating giving up. Makes me think of a heartbroken explorer or sailor that just goes up the river as far as it will take him somehow knowing that by the time the sun comes up, he'd have gone too far to ever come back. He's wondering if that other person will even notice if he's gone or maybe she'll be there, probably in the afterlife.
One of my favorite songs!! The Midnight Vampires is soo good too, I recommend.

The sax was "pleading"...my friend, THAT is a GREAT description. You're right...it's like you can see the musician against a full moon, belting out the notes...the sax is crying out for someone. We hear it...all the range of emotions coming through that one instrument. Then when you add the rest...it's symphonic. I was listening to the song on another channel and your video was the next up...so I let it play. I'm glad I did. You got another subscriber Jon. I done this many times, at first I thought that the first lines were always about heartbreak in relationships but when it's about grieving it takes things to another whole new level cause the lines are being read again and it hits even harder when something recently happens. Then you think of flashbacks good times, good memories upon the journey in that river of darkness but little by little the song takes to to a different wave to the river of light.
