Love it when you bring out the Field Jackets, Derek. I’m an avid collector - and user - myself, as well. My favorite ones to wear are the 51 and the 65. Especially now, perfect fall season attire. I don’t own a 42 yet, but I do have an M50
Thanks for uploading Derek, appreciate all the effort you put in. It’s really inspiring - thanks for your knowledge and hard work. Big love from England 🏴
You gotta love the old M-41 but boy was it impractical. The 43 was such a huge improvement. I have all except the 51. For some weird reason I didn’t like it. I had a 65 which I had for years. Used it for my motorcycle jacket when I was a kid. It was a fantastic jacket. Thanks again for the overview. I think the pics on the title are mixed up. You’ve got the 51 as the 43 or it could be my old eyes.
I was a conscript in the IDF from mid-1970 till mid-1973 and I was issued a brand-new US Army surplus M-65 field jacket as my winter uniform jacket. Yes it was slightly big on me, especially the sleeves, but it was warm & comfortable with the big pockets were most useful
@@derekdoeschannel Happy Monday, sadly no, on completion my 3 years service I had to return it along with all the rest of my kit except for the used underwear, towels and one pair of combat boots to be used in reserve service. During the years that I served in the reserves (till age 45 in a combat unit) if I was called up during winter time we were occasionally issued with a used M-65 but mostly we were issued with an Israeli made olive green padded & waterproof winter Parka jacket with a padded hood which was designated in Hebrew as a "Doobon" - loosely translated as a little bear. You will find a Wikipedia entry for the Doobon and a civilian version is still being made & sold on line
@@sputnikone6281 Too bad they took it back and too bad you had to wear that Doobon. Not a lot of style in that one. It's probably warmer and more waterproof.
Love these field jackets. I have all the US field jackets (mostly repros) except for the M-41 and the M-50. I personally like the M-43 the most, with the 51 being a close second. They're my go to jacket for pretty much every season except summer.
Great video! I had a M-65 before and want one again; OD is getting rare and I just don't like camo for casual wear. While the M-65 is cool, nothing is as cool as the older ones as they are just not as common as the M-65.
What jacket was used by troops in 1944 during the European campaign and often worn in movies like Saving Private Ryan? It isn't the M43 and doesn't look like the M41.
If it's the jacket I think you mean, try looking for an m1942 jump uniform, specially the jacket. Lots of pocket space, even a small one for the switchblade they'd be issued incase they landed in a tree. Hope this helps!
@@derekdoeschannel Thanks for this. You see the jackets a lot. For example, the Fury actors seemed to wear the same or similar jackets as the Rangers in Private Ryan. They have a zipped front and appear to have an elastic waist. It is not the paratrooper uniform but the standard GI uniform.
Been wearing my M65 field jacket since 1974, still wearing one now, love it!
They’re hard to beat.

Thanks. I’m with you. The 51 and 65 are my favorites also.
Man I love your channel, you're like the cool grandpa I never had lol
thanks...

Thanks Mike!

Thank you so much. Fixed! And I agree about the 41 and really I love them all.

Very nice, do you still have it?

Awesome. They're really all you need.

Yes the OD is getting very hard to find in the wild. And as I said I like the M-51 the most.
They were stilling is during the m65 mid 2000s, maybe longer I was issued one then
Thanks, I didn't know they went that far.

Yes, if you're thinking Private Ryan it's the Paratrooper M1942. I don't have one to show.

In Fury it’s the tanker jacket. Issued to tank crews
