Sony Xperia 1 VI Review | Upgraded Zoom and Two-Day Battery

- The Xperia 1 VI (also known as the 1 Mark 6) is the latest flagship smartphone from Sony, and this thing is expensive, costing £1,299 in the UK for the 256GB storage option, but it's also incredible at macro photography, has fantastic battery life, excellent speakers, and is the first Xperia phone with a vapour chamber cooling system and an adaptive refresh rate. Sony is behind the times - other flagships offered these highlights years ago - but now that Sony's catching up and mainstreaming its new Xperia 1 VI, has it done enough or is it too little too late?

I'm going to be holding onto the phone for a bit longer, so let me know if there's anything you want to know about it, and I'm curious to know what you think of the Xperia 1 VI's camera?
And if you're thinking about picking up an Xperia 1 VI from Amazon, if you use my link - amzn.to/3WQjsDz - I'll get a few quid to put to my next video, and a few other links to featured tech are listed below. Cheers all! Basil

This is a major letdown. It no more feels Unique. It no more feels Premium. It no more feels "XPERIA". I am really disappointed with it. This the same as when we went from XPERIA XZ Premium to XZ2 Premium. That is not good at all.
feels more like they turned the 1 series into the lower tier 5 series with the 1080p screen. i dont understand many decisions they made…
@@DarrinLin Exactly. This should have been 5 Series.
@@KING_DRANZER Xperia 5 VI Plus?
It feels like they made some compromises for sure. The screen is a key component in a phone as it's your gateway into the device. 1080p does indeed make the Mark 6 seem less premium. Have they locked down the price? I can see $1,299 for the 512GB, but that 256GB better be no more than $1,199
Let’s put things in context.
When the 1V came with a 4k display the whole TH-cam said: well, you don’t need 4k resolution because the content is 1080p. 4k consumes more power and doesn’t allow variable refresh rate. Now you get better battery life and variable refresh rate. TH-cam: that’s awful, we need 4k display.
The 1V had three professional Apps: Camera Pro, Cinema Pro, Photo Pro. The whole TH-cam was like: “Sony is creating confusion. They should merge all 3 apps in one”. Sony does exactly that. TH-cam: “what a mistake!”.
The 1V had the “classical” Xperia aspect ratio. TH-cam: “They should make it slightly larger”. Sony does exactly that. TH-cam: “Huge disappointment, they dropped the aspect ratio”.
What on earth do you need trolls?
well the best thing was you can record 4k and then watch it in 4k now your recording in 4k and watching it in 1080 ?
@@fderenzio :))))) I rest my case
So the upsides of a FHD+ panel:
-higher brightness
-lower power consumption
-variable refresh rate
Upsides of a 4k panel:
-slightly sharper when you look at it from 1-2 inch away
Yeah, I think I like the new display better
They should have made it 1220p. That's an optimal resolution for a modern phone.
Why not 2k? Samsung did it
Don't forget the benefit is only during video playback. The drawbacks are 80% valid all the time...
It depends on a person's eyes. I can tell the difference between 2k and 4k and definitely from 1080 to 4k.
Nah it's their premium phone. They should have given the option for the 4k display. Power consumption is very minimal difference unless you change screen size. It's an OLED panel. A sharper image will be better when watching content.
5:05 YES! A MICRO SD CARD!
Thank the lords amiright
Don't forget 3.5mm
all xperia have micro sd slot & 3,5mm jack audio
Also 3.5mm!😊
My old Xperia 1 mark 1 doesn't had an headphone jack but luckily my new IV got one
Just the right person I wanted to hear it from. So glad Basil, keep it up. Would sure be looking out for the full review on the camera side of things.
Great Xperia 1 VI review Basil! :) Looking forward to your channel for more Xperia 1 VI content!
Sehr gutes Review, informativ und authentisch. THX from Berlin
Great video mate, thanks a lot 👍🏼
Awesome review lad!
Thanks for the honest review, the comparison shots and the typical everyday footage rather than every shot perfected to the max, which might give unrealistic expectations.
Best review of the vi on the internet...
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it 🙏 Basil
it's that time of year again - always the first with the new Sony Xperia content! I love my 1V, the size and design are just fantastic. I don't know if I really want to go back to typical large phone size although I do occassionally wish that Sony phones did just a little bit more AI photo processing for those "must capture" moments when I rely on the auto mode to get me where I want to be on the shot (although post process editing in Google Photo with a Google One subscription can improve "images" if needed. All the other bits like the textured body, shutter button, easy sim card tray, no notch, fantastic speakers really work for me so I'll likely upgrade at some point when my contract allows me. It's thanks to this channel (well Tom anyway) that I took a punt on the 1iii in the first place! Keep up the good work!
I'll pass this comment onto Tom :) thanks Richard, agree with everything you say. Have a great day! Basil
@@tech_edit same to you Basil!
As always you one of the firsts I go to the details. Thank you for the review! Is software update (camera app, UI) would be available for the older versions, your thoughts?
Nice review Basil!
Watching these on my mark 2 i hope get these V or VI. I love sony phone
Get the xperia 1 V...pretty comfortable to hold.
I don’t agree, because for me personally battery life and zoom are pretty important. Also, I like to game, use PS Remote Play (16:9) and the throttling is less aggressive on the 1 VI, so I’d wait for the price to take a bit of a drop and then go for the 1 VI. I do have big hands, though, and you are right. The 1 V is easier to hold.
'NOT coming to the US Market'...
Do Sony... NOT want to sell some of the best phones out there? Are they actually right in the head? 🤔
I mean... Things like:-
- Announcing a 'Brand new' phone model, but NOT making available to buy for up to 6 months later...
- Having some EXCELLENT hardware, but providing DISMAL OS/Security update life...
- Said excellent hardware having FAR TOO COMPLICATED multiple camera app systems...
- SERIOUSLY HEFTY price tags...
And more issues besides...
Sony phones COULD rise to become some of the most popular phones 'Out in the field' to rival the likes of Apple and Samsungs' offerings... IF ONLY they corrected the above issues (and a couple of others), and they COULD do it as they have what? 3 phone models (not like Samsung with their extensive A and S range phones)... Let us buy the phones SOON after announcing them, DROP the price to UNDER the 'Equivalent' Samsung, give them AT LEAST 4 years OS and a further 1 year Security update system, then, yeah, I'm pretty sure, they'll sell A LOT MORE of these phones so MORE people can enjoy such things as the great screens and FRONT FIRING PROPER STEREO loud speakers that DO make a difference in viewing content (I remember the days of my Motorola Google Nexus 6! With its 6" Quad HD display and front firing stereo speaker set up... I miss those days.. What do we have now? Mid to tinny left earpiece speaker and full range but firing away from you bottom right speaker... 😒 As Michael Fisher (MrMobile) says - "When phones were fun".. 😏
😎🇬🇧
@@tech_editHuh? You say you got big hands, so that would make it easier, or not harder at least, to hold the VI. And one would even perhaps think that the V would feel to narrow for you to hold even. I mean.. I might be missing something here, or misunderstand you, but it's obviously more of a potential problem to hold a wider phone, with small hands (the oppositeof what you are sporting😉). Hence, why some buyers with small hands probably would prefer to go with the V over the VI, although the difference is very slight, I'd say.
I'm not bothered about the downgrade to a 1080p display, but this looks more like a £800 phone than one that fetches £1300.
Exactly, if I can get the same screen on a Xiaomi phone, why would I pay 5-6x more for a slightly better camera?
*The Xperia for years have been niche phones, ie: for those who want advanced photo and video features, and for brand enthusiasts who always buy the Xperia, just because it is Xperia, regardless of its shortcomings and inefficiencies (something that happens on a much higher scale with iPhone fans)... Now it is clear that with this new Mark VI, Sony wants to look more like the competition and reach a more common audience.*
I'm very pleased about the increase in screen brightness... I think it's up from 900 - 1400? My Xperia 1V just isn't bright enough outdoors. So, this is a big improvement.
I'm glad they did finally add macro capability to this phone. The sensor sizes may be something to look at when comparisons come between some of these other phones with large sensors on every lens
My favourite form factor (form, size, weight and material) is still the XZ1 Compact. I wish they made a modern version ✨✨
Yes me too.
Me too. Still my main phone.
Me too
blue xz1 compact 😍😍
🤮🤮
I'm a 1 iii owner and my new Xperia will be a 1 V because the 21:9 screen is the must have for movies and the most series.
All your movies and series will still be the same width. It's not that bad lol
As if the Xperia 21:9 is an actual cinematic resolution. It still had to be over/under scannned...
Aperture 3.5 at 170mm that's excellent! And main module also has 48mm lens . Don't expected sony will push such forward.
And appreciate for bumpless camera module
Did they improve the selfie camera for video calls?
Thank you very much for the video
What do you think about audio quality through 3.5mm jack compared to previous model?
I think there are a number of very interesting upgrades overall. And I understand why Sony has made a move more towards the mainstream. That makes perfect sense. I think the camera system sounds very cool. What concerns me though is that how long will Xperia exist as a brand because I see two HUGE problems .......
1) The total lack of availability and marketing. Sony sells these phones in only a handful of countries. And even then there is barely any marketing. How on earth can people be interested in or want to buy something they either don't know exists or that isn't even sold in their country?
2) The price. It looks like a great phone.....but it is too expensive. Sony desperately needs to bring the prices of Xperia phones down.
I cant help but feel that if these Xperia phones were around the 1000 USD range and were sold globally.....Sony would actually sell some phones and have an actual mobile platform.
They should at least have a contract phone Carriers
Given recent events with their handling of the PlayStation brand on PC, I'd say Sony seems to be rather retreating from being competitive and available in a number of countries but only restricting themselves to certain markets/countries. It is a rather strange decision but it seems like they're slowly transitioning their business to focus on specific markets.
and it will NOT be sold in the US. BIG MISTAKE
@@SonyEnthusiast yup...and from what I am seeing.....looks like wont be sold in China either. Thats how bad sales must be that they are not even bothering to sell in the two largest markets.
thanks Basil! awesome you covered the Xperia 1 mk VI on launch...
im actually a year into using the Sony Xperia 1 mk V... very happy... only sore point is battery life but i still get almost a day with heavy use so its not terrible... stand out features are the media playback... that 4K screen is lovely... and the blistering speed apps run... never noticed lag until my battery drops below 5%... overall its just an excellent smartphone...
Hi Basil, thanks for the video and test review...
is it safe to assume there is no change either in the update policy?
3yrs software 4yrs OS, and thanks for the kind words :)
@@tech_edit thank you Again Basil, i have missed that information at the 20 mn mark in your video, have a great day :-)
love it... very down to earth, finally a camera that can focus on less than 10 cm. Not sure about the price, but i want it... I will be waiting for 5 VI tho.
Great review btw
Casually smashing some streets of rage...my guy!!! ❤
I love my front facing speakers on my. Sony 1iii. Definitely need this to come to other phones again.
love that macro capabilities
Thank's i will upgrade from Xperia1iii that's still very good ☺️👋
Enjoy it, and thanks for the comment! Basil
Şu an Pixel 2XL kullanıyorum ama Sharp Aqua 8pro ve bu Sony 1mach 6 arasında bir seçim yapmam lazım 🤔🤔🤔
Sony made a fantastic move by making these changes. It is by far the best Sony smartphone ever, with unique features. ❤️
Thanks for the review. Is bokeh video recording still limited to 1080p?
20:24 that new action centre layout is great.
2nd Day with the phone and I can attest that it is a hot item! Loving it so far. Just watch out for the wallpaper app it has glitches out of the box (won't start for me) But in general a gorgeous phone, nothing ostentatious or garish. Perfect fit for professionals and designers like myself...until the next great breakthrough in foldable screens (durability) comes along. I would highly recommend getting one!
It's funny, but you actually convince me to get the 1 V. Write down to the comfort in hands. I actually prefer the slimmer design of the 21 to 9 ratio as my hands are not large. It allows me to hold, swipe text, all in one hand. And I could care less about super brightness during day. I've never had an issue with brightness on my 1 iii. So now I feel comfortable getting a discounted 1 V. Thanks!
Solid video.
As for the screen. I don't understand why Sony went to the other extreme end, 4k resolution is too much? Okay, but why not find a middle ground? What about a *2k+* resolution? For the price, it can not have the lowest resolution out of any flagship. That's a poor excuse, imo. Also i don't appreciate them, yet again, only reserving the Exmor T sensor for the main 24mm camera. They should have put that sensor in all 3 cameras, but at least they should have put the Exmor T into the Telephoto, which desperately needed a higher resolution and more light sensitive sensor looking at the mark V. Overall i still prefer the 1 inch sensor in the Xiaomi 14 ultra that Sony makes (LYT-900), but for some reason Sony refuses to put it into their own phones? Imo there are lots of missed opportunities and lack of improvement in the camera department, although the 170mm is a really impressive achievement, that's about everything they added/improved on a hardware level.
they want 1 inch because of camera bump sony executives hates camera bumps
its just an excuse. they probably couldnt figure it out or it would be too expensive
So in youtubevideos you only can watch up to 1080p?
@@highqualitypyro9075who is talking about TH-cam videos? Missing the 1.0 sensor as well as removing Cinema Pro and preventing it from being loaded at all is a bad move. I have taken some beautiful stills and videos with my Xperia Pro. It's still the best sensor in a phone by far. The brilliance of Cinema Pro is how well I could set up the video, especially in low light. The Xperia 1 VI is neither in one camp (mainstream devices) nor the other (specialist and high spec video and stills phone). Let's face it, if you want to play games, the Sony isn't the phone you would go for.
They should at least gave it a 900usd price if they're gonna cut short on the resolution
I've decided to buy the 1 V instead, the 4K screen is a must for me
The 1 V is awesome. SD8G2 has aged like a fine wine - enjoy it :) Basil
good until the software updates stop coming lol
You can have the previous with 4K and newest..you can have both..😂
@@itsmemeow5170 the new 1 doesn't have 4K display, you can record 4K 120 FPS video on the new 1 but would need to connect to a 4K TV to watch it
On the old 1 you can still record 4K 120 FPS but can watch it on the device without connecting to a 4K TV
@@DarrinLinthen what? It magically stops working? Get help lol.
Thanks!
Thank you! So kind, very much appreciated. Have a great day, Basil
GSMArena has it's active use score at 17:27h!! Amazing!!! That is very interesting to me.
We are from USA (Oregon) and travel regularly to Thailand & Japan. My s10 International works great, but does not do as well as my s9 in the USA. All my past samsungs have been USA and they worked great all over the World.
(Right now we are in Switzerland with my International Samsung s10).
Hopefully the Sony 1 VI International will work in the USA.
I will buy with warrenty in either Japan or Thailand (probably cheaper).
Sticking with my xperia pro-i
Thanks for the review. May I know the PWM please?
Will SnapDragon Gen 3 can upgrade major android updates longer years for Xperia 1VI ?
Do you have any idea about the pwm rating of it's screen?
20:15 finnaly!!
but for the price I still don't think it's enough
Do you have any information about when the device will be on sale?
Finally a sony to be excited about again. Sony is in the right direction with this one.
Watching on my Xperia 5. I love that 21:9 aspect ratio. Please bring back 21:9 aspect ratio in Xperia 5 iv
Sorry Xperia 5 vi
Will the U.S. model also support e-SIM? I would like that very much!
Great video. I'm feeling a little let down by Sony in some ways this year. I'll still be getting it on the 6th but man, what are they doing?
side sense was always with swiping? i have the 5ii and i use the swip up and down in sidesense a lot
ow no side sense to side slide it has changed indeed.
So did they redesign the quick settings or did you do something through ADB commands? Did you maybe notice some FPS drops when using the camera or watching videos? That was a huge problem on 1V. Every time I watched a video the FPS dropped massively... Great review!!
Usually it's because youtube videos are usually 24-30fps. The phone will also drop the refresh rate appropiately so as to not waste power.
@@LindonSlaght this happens only with sony phones. I know that youtube videos are playing at lower fps. But why don't other phones drop the refresh rate too by this logic?
Why nobody comment on the new Quick Panel?😂
They already fixed the lagging issues in the latest update. 1V user here.
The 1 mark V display was always in 1080 anyway until you played 4k content. On a screen that small it really doesn't matter. I'll take the awesome battery life over 4k any day. The international version works with all the bands we need over here in the states anyway so no big deal other than warranty.
What about the notification LED light: is it still there, or have they removed it?
Is there any way to move the time/clock from the left to the right? I know Samsung let's you with the Good Lock app.
My Xperia is 4k and has an awesome battery life, so can't I agine how good the battery is here. Even without 4k this screen will be better than the rest. Might have to test it out...if other aspects are super then cud it be fine? Probably!
I want to use a steel ring/case for qi2 charging. I wash wondering is it too close to the telescopic lens, and might damage it.
Personally not huge on big phones, so I'm waiting to see what they do with the 5 VI. The 10 VI looks solid as well aside from the screen being 60hz, but as I'm still on a Pixel 4a it wouldn't bother me personally, I'd take the extra battery life. At the end of the day I just want a phone with a clean UI, good battery life and a headphone jack. Currently such a phone doesn't seem to exist aside from the 5 V, but it's only got 1 more year of software updates.
Is sony about to add all photo and camera features from mark V? Like cinetone and photo color presets etc. via update?
Khaki green? Is is same as in mark V?
I do not know if it's only me but it seems darker in mark VI? :(
Finally 3 years of updates!
Finally brighter screen with variable refresh rate!
Finally vapor chamber!
Finally better battery!
Is there Sony album app included?
Hmmm, difficult juggling the considerations between what's been gained and what's been lost on the VI. I'm still using the original beautiful purple colour Xperia 1. I was really expecting Exmor T sensors on all 3 cameras this year. As much as I like gaining 48mm on the main camera with the VI, I feel that I'm gonna opt to finally upgrade to a V, as I love the 4k cinemawide display. I'm seeing a red version of the VI floating around on twitter (not in the official Sony VI product video), which would tempt me to get a VI if true.
Is there any action mode?
Currently using the Xperia 1 V so going to give the Xperia 1 VI a try. Screen is a mixed bag. Resolution has dropped but brightness has improved
Easily the best phone I can't wait for my Sony Xperia 1 mark IV yes that purple one ;)
They still could have gone for 1440p
Simply put on an OLED screen, with black back ground and 1 Hz refreash rate, you can use it as E-ink reader.😅
Will there be a dedicated videography and cinema pro app in the future 🤔 🤔🤔
So we don't know if we will get Alpha style camera app? That looked like an RnD debugging app...
does it have a voice command shutter in camera finally?
I'm currently considering this phone as replacement for my trusty Pro-i. It's just a bit sad that Sony didn't announce a successor to this phone up to now.
Looks like the PRO series is dead. The original PRO from 2020 is replaced by the PDT-FP1 and the PRO-I is merged with the classic series. Personally, I don't consider this a major update to my PRO-I. I don't play games, so I don't care about peak SoC performance.
i think pro video app is getting some sort of revamp for the august release ?
i guess the display isnt the main issue just because lack of video pro right out of the box and new aspect ratio is throwing fan off abit.
but video pro is still coming and people will get used to new aspect ratio anyway and display isn't day and night different either.
in the mean time we still can download apk file of video pro for sony phone, its android so there's that option
also they're saving all highest spec for the sony pro i successor
I love the camera features. Those are some really nice images. It's very disappointing however that they lowered the screen resolution. It would have been nice if they increased the battery size too. At least to 6000 mAh.
How is the front camera quality?
The main provlem for me is that I live in the USA and the International versions do not keep up with at&t and verizon updating their 4g & 5g resulting in connectivity issues and speed.
I am still hoping for a USA version when Sony's Xperia 5 VI is actually released in the fall. (Why the lag???)
The major thing I really dislike about the Xperia phones is the lack of any quickcharge. Currently been using an LG Velvet since 2020 and considering to upgrade, but the lack of even basic QC is disappointing. I use a powerbank quite a lot when I'm on hikes, outdoors, etc and on the Velvet it only takes like 30 mins to get to 100%.
100% agree. I remember when Sony first introduced Battery Care, they cited that as a reason for not including quick charge, but that was years ago. It's even less competitive now. On the plus, at least with the 1 VI a 50% charge (22 mins) gets me just under a day of moderate use. The battery really is good.
Will you also do a review of the Xperia 10 VI? I'm looking at it as a potential replacement.
I will watch first and then decide on how i feel about the mkVI.
Currently a 1 mkV owner
no Video Pro until autumn is just baffling. I like the new camera app and I hope I can sideload it to my 1V
Alpha camera app was better and really different/unique for Sony.
Great review Basil unfortunately this is another Sony phone that doesn't stand out or even compete with the flagships, their customer base is shrinking too, such a shame I used to love Sony mobiles
What are you talking about?? Expansion slot FTW
Im ok w/ the lower res display, love almost all the new upgrades.
Same, with my crappy eyesight I wont notice the difference anyway, plus I'm really looking forward to finally getting good tele-macro capability. It's one of the features I wanted most from a smartphone camera.
Well, I still have my Xperia xz2 6gb ram version. Still rocking hard! The only thing I did : I replace the battery {yes, me! So easy to change it!}. So why change it? The phone is perfect after me. Let's sit and wait. Maybe the Xperia 5 mark vi will be my next one!
I appreciate that they extended the width. but It's a shame they got rid of the 4k screen. The most important thing on the Sony line when watching movies🙂
Genuine question... I have the 1 MK4 .... This worth the upgrade? And my biggest question is the LED status light finally back? Please say it is! Ridiculous getting rid of that for the mk5
Watching on my Xperia 1 Mark lll and comparing every single details.
Lovin my alpha sony cameras, Im kinda intrigued to get this phone, but would I like it after iphone? Im not sure :/
What about the point & shoot and the fingerprint scanner? Is it the same as the one on the Mark II to V? Sony's fingerprint scanner has serious issues and stopped working for a lot of users of the Mark II to V.
I hate that fingerprint reader. it broker right after warranty expired.
@@M00n.P00p. On my Xperia 5 III it crapped out after 1,5 years of use. Phone doesn't even recognize now it ever had a fingerprint scanner...
@@pastichiorocker same on my Xperia 5 II. It's beyond me how Sony can cheep out on such an essential part of a smartphone.
My biggest question: can you disable/reduce the sharpening?
The reason I bought the Xperia IV was, that it didn't have that stupid over-sharpening. But now it seems like the VI has that as well... in photos and videos. If it can't be disabled, it's sadly an absolute no go for me (especially video).
I agree, at some point its really evident that the pics/vids are made on a phone.
good job!
Personally i love the omission of the 4K screen because the 1 VI battery will be much more efficient ❤
i didn't mind them changing the aspect ratio , didn't mind that much when the secondary cameras were not the upgraded exmor sensor , but man did they downgrade the screen to a 1080p, i was expecting the 1440p downgrade to increase battery life and cost reasons but man .. a 1080p screen ? on a flagship phone ?? what a joke . this is such a dealbreaker for me man im so sad . after being tired of s9 , i got a 15 pro max but god i hate this os with a fucking passion so i waited for this for a good stock android phone but yea ig u don't get everything.
and for the partially blind who are gonna say oOh U caNt SeE the difference... stfu , yes i can. i can easily make out a 1080p and 1440p video apart. so stop telling everyone u are not eligible to drive on the road.
I need at least 1440p for my job, so this phone is definitely out the window for me.
Exactly, if they had left the display alone it would have been perfect. But no, they had to do a Samsung and downgrade the screen to 1080p.
I can't see the difference. I am being serious. 720p would be too low, but 1080p is perfectly sharp. And I take the better battery life any day over a spec that only looks good on paper, with zero real world usability.
As a 1V owner I think a 1440p display would have been much better. Also I would like to correct you on your claims that the 1V runs at 1080p. On Android 13 it actually displayed full 4K almost all the time, then they switched it over to 1080p once they rolled out Android 14. Anyways, I don't think this is a worthwhile upgrade for me. I would definitely miss having my professional UI layout like on my mark V. I definitely love the inclusion of macro mode, vapor chamber cooling, and a longer tele lens but at the same time I wish they'd done something more with the other cameras on the phone. Especially the front camera. I would love to see a larger sensor size, preferably 1" and variable aperture like Xiaomi.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I definitely hate that they abandoned 21:9, it's what made Sony unique and I don't like the fact that they're going more "mainstream".
the missing pro layout is the worst of them all in my eyes
I remember when Sony used to release really unique quirky phones like the XA series...the ones with LED bars on them like the Xperia U and the Xperia 10 and 10 plus...now they just release the same design every time....give us something different.
I'm not going to mince words. The 1080p screen is a deal breaker for me. As far as aspect ratio, it's a bummer it no longer keeps 21:9.
I prefer this new aspect ratio, 21:9 was too narrow
21:9 is only useful for watching movies and even when the screen was 4k it only displayed 1080p most of the time
So in youtubevideos you only can watch up to 1080p?
15:50 I thought the Vivo x100 pro and Xiaomi 14 ultra could do telemacro too? Or is their minimum focusing distance not close enough?
They do close-up telephoto, as does the Oppo Fins X7 Ultra, but it isn't true telemacro like the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Huawei P60 Pro/Pura 70 Ultra and Xperia 1 VI.
@@tech_edit
Xiaomi 14 ultra 3.2x is floating like the 13 pro. It's a true 75mm this time not a 65m crop.
The 5x is just close focus tele.
Also the Vivo X100 pro has a floating tele lens for macro at 4.3x.
Oppo is the only one without true floating tele for macro.
Great video, but you say you want a zoom slider? It has one its the volume rocker switch. Don't need to pinch. This is one reason why I like the xperia.
That's absolutely correct and I'll mention the volume rocker in my next video. For one handed zooming, though, made possible by the Xperia's comfortable flat sides, a zoom slider would have been so handy. Thanks for the comment! Basil
Problem is that you can't make steady "zoom in's" or "zoom out's" with the volume rocker, as its almost impossible to not push/move/bump the phone itself, at least slightly, as you're pushing those buttons. That's why you need a slider on the screen. I almost never use the volume rocker for zoom, for that very reason, as it ruins the video you're trying to shoot.
Can I make a request? I would really like to have a review of Sony does it Android OS - how it works (calls, messages, the basic stuff), how well it performs in multi-tasking and so on. I have been looking at a Sony phone for a while now, but CAMERA CAMERA CAMERA CAMERA (and the only interesting part about Sony's camera that it doesn't take half of the back panel... I don't do photo). Thanks
Sony Xperia ❤❤🔥🔥
