    Thanks for the help reminding me how to use my miter saw. I hadn't needed it for 20 years, and I forgot all I knew about it. Thanks again.

    Just bought one of these saws at a garden sale, and thanks to you, I now know how to use it. I have some mouldings to cut to put on some very plain cupboard doors, but not until the last minute of your video, did I realise I can use it to make picture frames too! The tip about using a piece of the shaped moulding to square up for clamping is priceless :). Thanks very much for making the video, you deserve many more likes!

    Very helpful video, thanks a lot. I'm the new owner of an old traditional miter box and saw like this, purchased second hand from Facebook Marketplace. I need to learn how to use it - and how to assemble it, as the seller had dismantled it in order to put it in a cardboard box. I'm now off to look at some of your other videos!.

      Thanks Larry for you kind comment. The mitre saw is a bit tricky to use in order to cut in exactly the right place, especially if cutting four pieces to make a picture frame. As the saying goes, "check twice and cut once." Good luck with all your DIY work

    How do you cut angles other than the preset ones?

    I have the same mitre saw and put a dado rail up today and seemed to be wrestling with it I clamped the saw bed to a workmate bench but I oiled the blade and rails thinking it would be lubricated and smooth but it was stuttering stopping and starting I couldn't think why it must be what you said about cleaning the oil of the blade first coz mine is a little rusty

    Thank you for sharing. I'm looking for something to cut 1x2 battens for my wooden home decor frames. It's hard to know whether to buy an electric mitre saw or a hand held saw. Electric mitre saws are so expensive x

    • @jesshothersall
      @jesshothersall 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start with the hand one, see how you get on with it, and maybe get an electric later when you can afford it, if you find you use it a lot?

    Hello Mike,
    I bought one of these mitre saws for doing picture frames. I notice when the saw cuts the wood. It cuts at a slight angle. I can see there is no adjustment for the blade. When i cut right angles for frames the 2 pieces of wood do not match perfectly. When i check it with a square there is a gap in the wood. It means i would have to fill the gap. I bought one years ago and that one was the same. Are your 90 degree angles absoulute precision on this mitre. or have i been unlucky twice.

      I would also like to know as I have the same saw and ALL my cuts are very wonky, I've tried going slow, fast, seesawing and many other techniques but still not a single strait cut!

      I have a couple of vintage American miter saws and they cut beautifully. Maybe your machine is just not up to the task.

    • @martinmcleod9162
      @martinmcleod9162 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, I bought one of these and despite everything I tried, I could not get a straight cut. Any Ideas?

    • @Justin-fy7xk
      @Justin-fy7xk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The saw is not made to precision. There is just too much play in it. i took the blade out and it seemed warped. You seem to have to pay a lot more to get a better one. I have tried 2 with the same poor results. I could have done a better job myself. These cheap saws are a total waste of time. Everyone must be having the same problem. They are totally useless

    Mine is the same model, smooth cutting but against my square (which I know to be true) the virtical is not perfect. Any idea what could be happening? Is there a way to fine tune?Maybe the saw teeth favouring one side?😷

    Hi. I enjoyed your video. However what I was looking for was how to change the blade, actually which way the teeth should point. I took the old one off whithout taking note

      Thanks for mentioning that, I will remember to look when I buy a new blade! :). Guess you've worked it out by now, but my saw teeth are facing forwards I now find

    does this miter saw have a blade for metal :)

    • @mikesdiytips421
      @mikesdiytips421  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Joseph. As far as I know, the blades are for wood only, although they are hardened steel, so if cutting a soft metal like aluminium, personally I would go ahead and risk blunting the blade and simply buy a replacement blade

      @@mikesdiytips421 Hi guys. yes you can buy blades for metal and acrylic. Look on Ebay, Toolstation, Screwfix etc.
