Have you ever noticed in Hollywood movies that the actors can never hammer a nail right? Like in the hateful eight when they had to keep hammering the door shut they looked like they had never picked up a hammer in their lives.
Hi James, thanks for your query. To drive longer nails successfully, it is vital to hit it exactly in line with the nail direction. You can feel and hear when you are hitting it correctly or not. As soon as you sense it is bending stop hitting, straighten it up and check the hammer hitting direction. Then hit the nail less hard. It may be slower but you should get the desired result. If working with very long nails or harder wood like oak, drill a pilot hole in the wood being fixed. The hole should be about half the diameter of the nail. This guides the nail as it penetrates and enables it to be driven more easily. Good luck with all your projects. Sincerely, Mike
Great video thanks. I went to my local hardware shop to get some nails I said can I have some nails please the shopkeeper said how long do you want them I said I want to keep them 🤣😂😁
You should also be aware that nails packaged with the heads down and points up are used for nailing ceilings. If you wish to nail floorboards you need nails packaged with the points down and heads up!
best video on driving nails I've seen. I think this is a dying art with the popularity of nail guns.
Mike, you are a blessing. Thank you so much.
Helpful & thorough video! Keep nailing
That was well detailed thanks for all that 🌹

Do you have any videos on driving in longer nails and not bending them, as it's happened to me more times than I care to remember?

What are some tricks to driving common sized nails in harder denser woods like dried oak? It is about the equivalent of driving nails into rocks
Pre-drill with smaller size bit
