- I accidentally discovered this and briefly mentioned it in one of my videos, but I feel that I must make a short but dedicated video for this, because this is such a great feature especially for multi-crew. Enjoy!

Neat. This used to be a feature a long time ago; you could zoom in / out your holographic radar. Now they just need to bring back the landing radar that we used to have!

I always wondered what happened.
Yep, you could zoom in zoom out, move around, target lock, could even set QT from it. It was honestly sort of valuable for vehicles with a radar because you could lock onto an outpost with QT and follow the line back. I absolutely hate the 2D radars because they lack this sort of functionality.
It is nice that the copilot now gets this too though.
The landing widget was fantastic, and much needed for continuing to land in first person with larger ships
@@Blackburn6969 Yeah, it was nice. These days, I just go into third person. It's fun when i'm strafing down (re-bound to l-alt) and then go into third person...
(That's alt-F4, kids...closes the program. LOL!)
This is huge. The potential for having a radar operator aboard a ship with this functionality is very interesting. They could point out targets and shift priority for the pilot.

This might look good for capital ship combat on the large holo globes like the Carrack has.
5:35 They also have changed mousewheel scaling of global map (F2), made it more continuous. So it is possible now to determine exact vehicle direction on a globe and precisely navigate in ground vehicles using starmap. You can use it while doing Klescher escape ))
If you zoom out for long enough you go into the galactic view, (At least a remnant of it), since 3.24.2 is on 4.0 codebase, Super exciting stuff for the map.
That was my biggest gripe with the new 'amazing' star map. It jumped from 100m around you straight to space. Got my ship destroyed and wanted to fly the pulse to the nearest base. It was completely impossible
This is very cool indeed! I can also see the potential for this as a bounty hunter with my Eclipse. I can check out my targets through my radar first from a safe distance in stealth and plan accordingly. Love it!
lol, I was half-expecting you to say "That ship is moving closer to me, He's really close,.. What he shot me" lol When I was salvaging I targeted a ship and did a scan, but in order to see the cargo I had to select a tab to see cargo list and parts list < or >.

This was also technically in the old radar system (targeting ships with click and viewing surrounding space / bits of the map) but this was (pre-3.19)
I think the original version was abandoned / disabled in patch 3.19 because the LIVE build radar doesnt work anymore and hasnt for some time.
This was likely done in favor of developing this new system.
awesome. My only gripe is theres no specific symbols for different ships. like a square for turrets or something and having the station being the actual model of station would be neat. maybe on the larger holotables.
Ships and turrets, etc... should have different generic icons instead of all being triangles. Something to help differentiate between target types better.
Same for things like asteroids and wrecks. Would be even better if the radar could highlight targets that you were on a potential collision course with, not just enemies and neutral targets.
hopefully they change the shapes of the target pings to help determine between ships and other things like the turrets
Nice features. But I still despise the 3D radars floating in empty space. Because as soon as something brighter than the darkness of space is behind the radar screen it becomes completely unreadable.
Badass 🤙🏻 really hope they allow us to decide what radar info we want displayed, ie; disable non-piloted entities, ie; turrets 😅 lol
Eve online has a nice setup for sensor data, being able to filter your scan data and even change the colors of target types. Something similar would be nice for SC.

I wonder if the navigation globe will have this functionality, and as its bigger it may have better resolution to discern the different target types. That would be awesome

Wow... now the Carrack's big radar now makes a ton of sense. Having a large radar globe that gives you detailed access to ships will allow one person to use that radar globe to feed other players target information and dynamically target ships/turrets. This could be really really cool. The multi-crew functionality for ships like the Carrack/Polaris is really starting to come into view now.
yeah as long as it comes up as a alternate target option. I wouldn't want to lose my target lock when whomever is at the globe sets another. So their's needs to come up as a different color etc and there needs to be a hotkey to switch to it.
you can zoom and target via radar for years (in most ships)
what we need is "FLEET scan linking
where ships in your party all share NAV scan data thus you can have one ship or ground units with superior scanning and everyone sees it long as someone is in the station
you could scale the map before but it was JANK
you could also click target with holo maps before too
so it is useful if we could get group pinning a carrack would be OP
Is the locked target shared between the pilot and copilot? In the past I struggled with even the pin target commands to share the target with my gunner.

Imagine this function in a bigger ship, with VR. There'd be a fist fight before takeoff to get that position
I wonder what the significance of the hollow vs filled triangles is. In Elite Dangerous, what the new radar is clearly inspired by, hollow triangles are players and solid ones are NPCs.

This is the actual system drainer. Having radar on when approaching the station will drop FPS. I've started shutting it off when nearing stations.

We'll desperately need a filter system for this. I would like to be able to NOT show NPC turrets, for example, but would like to be able to toggle them on if the need arises.

Oh man I'm gonna sound like agent decker from key & peele every time I use it and it won't get old for org mates at all.
back in the day, the mobiglass map would fail to work, so to plot a route one could use the cockpit radar (if it was a 3d radar, like mustang or most anvil, some had a 2d radar ex. avenger) full functionality as the star map. This is much better now, though.
This is really cool hope they change the markers for each type of thing on the radar so they're not all triangles.

What I am getting excited for is the slowly developing potential for a navigator seat, especially on exploration and recon ships.
This new Radar is just straight stolen from Elite Dangerous.. and i love it xD
The history of the two radars is interesting. The Elite Dangerous radar is based on the Elite radar that David Braben designed back in the 1980s, and the pre-3.24.2 Star Citizen one is based on the Wing Commander radar that Chris Roberts designed in the 1990s. I'm glad that they finally convinced Chris that David's radar is better :)
Hmmmm, I can see this coming in handy in the Carrack Command hologram. But flying and clicking on targets would be a little bit rough. Every feature has been in the game for years except maybe the clicking of the targets by the way. You seem very surprised by all the features the radar could do so I had to point that out.
You could use the mouse to target items before the new radar.
Would be great for the co-pilot. Have more things to do. Now CIG needs to flesh out the radar. Distinct Icons and MFD panel for settings and presets.

You can also click target in radar in 3.24.1 just easyer with 3.24.2

So I always thought the hold f to interact then using the mouse to interact was bad. I feel like it would be better to press f once to enter interaction and instead of using the mouse, use the keyboard like the arrow keys or numpad to quickly adjust settings. The next thing is the map wish they reworked the interaction a bit more like how it is in HellDivers 2
I was pretty sure that you can do that -- have interaction mode on a toggle.

I just don't get why game dev or VFX artist never seem to understand how much bloom is too much bloom
if one of your Gunner or Co-Pilot target locks onto something will that immediately relay the locked target to the pilot or gunner so they can get a firing solution or run scans at their leisure?
They need to cut down the bloom a bit, you can barely discern the markers

Now if they can offer subcomponents graphically via image of the target you've locked with RADAR...imagine, drilling down to the engine or shield generator.
Also, one day I hope we have floors in the game that don't require floppy large clown shoes to keep from falling through the floor! Oh, and if we drop a rifle, it doesn't fall through the planet. Personally, I think CIG should have started with building floors...ones that work.
Thats a function of server fps - 1 thing that server meshing should address. Ive been on 500, 800 and 1,000 player servers with better server fps than we have on Live PU.. this is the last stretch.. 4.0 had its first test tonight. The patch we are on now in the test server- 3.24.2 is the Last patch that will ever be a single server with 100 players
They had this in the past. Glad it’s back. Too bad for us drake pilots. We got the CRT type of radar.

At least on a cutter, the CRT radar looks like the new one. Should try and see if the mouse wheel does anything there.

It's a nice feature but not really viable right now. Its small, all indicators are the same so you can't really tell what's what without needing to click on everything until you find it, not precise enough, no options to only show certain things so you can easily focus on what you are looking for, etc. None the less it is pretty cool though.

Yep this is just the foundation. Now that the base is in and the system is unified across ships - they can start adding in more function and filtering and start building out the special radar dedicated ships that can find other ships at Ultra long range - and get a jump solution to QT to them. Passive and Active radars will be a thing, holo table radar displays.. all sorts of things have been and are in the works

Just asking all those turrets at station's are there players sitting in them 😂 if not why can't we have those ai blades in our ship's now . They could act like pds when the ship gets attacked but not function at all if the pilot takes the first shot and is the aggressor
