I'm about 10 or so hours in(mostly level grinding) and i love it so far, love the new additions.

wow. this was a really well put together review.
I like the Disgaea series, but the Item Dungeon and reincarnation system make the games so damn complex that I end up spending too much time trying to level all my characters, and then I never make any progress.
Yeah id say avoid that stuff and just play the main story. You can totally get through it without having to grind a lot.

grinding is a post game activity. lv100 characters will EASILY see you through the main story

Actually Red Magnus is more like The Rock. He even uses some of his terminology. Like jabroni, candy ass..and the whole "shining it up real nice and shoving it up their candy ass."

Considering all Disgaea games have made it to portable consoles, I have a feeling I'll be seeing Disgaea 5 on the Vita in a year or two with added bonus content. As much as I love Disgaea seeing higher features on a next gen console is something to be desired.
+5150hold They said there's not gonna be a PSVita port the moment it was announced; they said it's because of the number of assets, too big for PS3 or Vita. Although they already talked about the DLC anyways: "NIS America will be releasing 5 batches of DLC which allow you to encounter the characters from Disgaea 3, Disgaea 4 and Disgaea D2 in various Netherworlds, as well as other games like La Pucelle! There will also be a season pass available and if you get all the DLC, you’ll unlock Pleinair as a playable character for free!"
There's a lot of features that won't make it possible. Apparently the last few Disgaea games on Vita didn't run super well either.

Daddy Robin if we're talking about story I personally enjoyed Disgaea 4 story and characters much more but I'd say Disgaea 5 has the best gameplay.
Does ANYONE know if you get advent children costumes for ps4 final fantasy seven port?
Kinda a weird question but how did they pronounce Usalia's name?
Some of my guesses were Oo-sa-Lie-a, U-sa-lee and Oo-sa-lee. Would love to know the correct way since I can't play the game till like November
+demiraichan OO-SA-LEE-AH would be the correct one, I imagine the english dubbers would say it differently though, they do that often.
in english pronunciation it's U-sa-lee-a
I love Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, and the other Nippon Ichi SRPGs but for me they work soooo much better as handheld titles. And not just because the £50 worth of DLC characters all come packed in... so I'll likely wait to see if it hits a handheld system.

I did say "wait and see". Companies have claimed exclusive rights before and gone back on it. I imagine it might be downgraded if it is, but that wouldn't really bother me. It's not like the downgrade would be as harsh as the Disgaea DS downgrade. Honestly all the DLC really bugs me, especially since there's so many characters you'll never use them often. JRPGs are terrible money drains with DLC in that way.

However, we are developing the game with PlayStation 4 specs, so to be honest, it's impossible to port the game to the PlayStation Vita. Porting the game without erasing a lot of features and cutting down the amount of assets would be very difficult, and of course, we do not wish to do that. I think there are people waiting for a "Return" version with all of the contents [and DLC] included, but I'm sorry, that will not happen this time. (laughs) If we were to port the game to a portable system, fans would probably have to wait for the next portable system after the Vita, but I haven't heard anything about this [system], so that would be far in the future. Disgaea 5 will have Remote Play. Do not wait for a PS Vita port, and please, play the PlayStation 4 version." Obviously you can still wait but nothing will come out of it;apparently if we want to believe the producer's words, it would actually be a harsh downgrade :(

Well that's a pain. Disgaea games are most at home on handhelds given their time killing nature, I doubt I'd have the time to waste on all the post game content on a console.
handhelds are objectively more suited to a pick up and play style; which disgaea is not; there's far too much micromanagement. i respect your right to your belief, and obviously your lifestlye may change what is true FOR YOU, but saying that disgaea titles work better on handheld is factually incorrect, and i won't abide it.
Nice review,this series has usually always lived up to the hype,the only downside is there is always so much dlc that you have to buy separately,it's simply ridiculous,nevertheless a worthy exclusive.Cheers
To be fair, it's really only cosmetic stuff like bonus characters unconnected to the story, the only exception being the downloadable bonus stories of Disgaea 3 and 4, which are included in the PS Vita versions for free.
£29 for a season pass. not too bad tbh; though your money would be just as well spent on another game. only go for it if you really want all the unique characters

This game will not run on Vita it is too demanding. Disgaea 4 already ran badly on Vita.
did they remove the cheat shop from 4 please tell me they did cause that's made my four playthrough really boring seeing as I reached the point of being op really quickly in the Vita version.

When'd I say anything about that? Don't use it 'til post game or not at all if it bothers you. I'm just saying nothing forces you to use the Cheat Shop. The point of it is to allow the player to customize the ease of the game to their liking, it's completely optional and shouldn't effect you at all unless you purposefully access it.

pretty hard to have a good review with only the beginning of the game , most clips are from pretty much first 2/3 chapters

Can you play through the majority of the story with generic characters? I never really like using story characters in games like these. I prefer to make myself and my friends.

Like Jun Kurosu sais. To be more precise, modern consoles aren't good at multiple moving sprites (they are better equipped for 3D games than for 2D games), since in Disgaea 5 more units are deployable than in the previous games, there's just no way it would ever run on vita (or PS3).
