I have had that experience. I was once standing between a building with a high gabled roof and a large oak tree. There were many flying squirrels soaring about. One launched from the house to the oak tree. It glanced off my head on its way. It felt like I was slapped on the top of my head with a piece of soft flannel.
These guys also absolutely adore suet. If you live in or close to an area that has lots of large, old trees, and you put out suet cakes for the birds, the chances are pretty good that you’ll have flying squirrels paying a visit after dark as well.
Years ago in Minnesota, we had a little bin on a tree with nuts... lots of trees... We would watch them fly in for it... Very very quick flights... They would hit the tree, scamper down, and scoot up the tree quickly... You could even hear their chatter, although it was faint and high pitch like a bat... Cool little creatures.
We had a family of these in an oak patch in our backyard. We would see them swooping, tree to tree, when were on our back patio after dark. They seemed very curious.
Awww, I love flying squirrels, they are so amazing and super cute! I don't know why but I have this magic feeling tingling inside of me that someday I will meet a magical electric flying squirrel....*sight* 😏💕

I stayed a weekend on an island in Lake George NY, and the island is full of these things. The best part is, they just fly down off the trees onto people. I was sitting talking to my friends when one landed right on my back
I live in MA, which I understand to be the southernmost extent of the flying squirrel's habitat, so I was very surprised to see one. I have lots of live-catch traps for mice, moles, & chipmunks, but one night I caught a flying squirrel. I was impressed with the size of its eyes, and that you can in fact see the cartilage "wing tip" mentioned in the video quite prominently. There must have been a period of time with distinct evolutionary pressure that forced squirrels to touch the ground as little as possible - like, squirrels had to be consistently dying to predators for traits like this to be the difference between life and death (in fact, the pre-formed predecessors of evolved traits like this). I had a laugh that I caught that flying squirrel in my trap under a bridge, and that he was a bad squirrel 'cause he was on the ground, but I let him go exactly where he got trapped and he never got caught again. Very neat - glad I could check one out up close for a few minutes.
I'd give my tooth and nail to be born with a meat suit like that. I'd never get anything done because I'd just be jumping throughout the trees constantly.
Awesome! There is a feeder cam that I visit, and the squirrels fly to the feeders. I just discovered that...I was told to check them out at night. They stop by at around 2 to 4 AM.
Also: These guys technically don’t fly, they glide. Flying involves actively keeping yourself in the air for an extended period of time. If you open your wings, jump, and land wherever you get in one go, that’s gliding.
My mother and I were at a public event with trees, dogs, and a remote-controlled drone, and I had to explain to her that I didn’t think the dogs would mistake the drone for a flying squirrel. I didn’t know that the flying squirrel was nocturnal, but I knew that they could not hover. In short, the drone looked like a flying squirrel but did not move like one.
Find out what kind of Squirrel you would be: to.pbs.org/2GAgdbI
You don't have to ask me twice. Lol!!! I just took this awesome test and I'd be a flying squirrel.
These squirrel is the batman of the night forest
That's right ,it was engineered , by the creator.
Flying squirrels
Flying squirrel
Imagine walking around at night and get hit in the face by a flying washcloth
LMAOOOOOOO
But then you could grab it and kiss it's meaty belly. That's cool.
Its not also so random as it is endanger

Falling with style
The narrator saying “it flys” about the 24 25 second range gave me goosebumps
Last night of these these came beaming past my stepson head and landed on the tree about 2 feet away from him, spooked the daylights out that boy lol
Lol I don’t blame him if I saw such a thing I’d be startled too. It’s cool he got to see one flying in action
They're like base jumpers 😄

Its cool to watch the "Ninja" of the rodent family.
I can’t help but think of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

"Oh Bullwinkle, not that trick again! That never works!"

If one can be persuaded to land in your hands, if you are holding a nut there, I will really be impressed.
that would scare the shit out of me lol
Wow. Breath taken away.
These things are a great introduction to the field of bionics.
I wish I could upload pictures but I feed roughly 20 of these guys nightly and they are truly a blessing to me ❤️
