I have a southern flying squirrel, a female named Jupiter. She is such a character! So much personality and she loves to be snuggled in my furry robe. Your enclosure looks great! We built one the size of a phone booth. I crochet her little nest pouches and she sleeps in those...she uses her birdhouse as a pantry/kitchen and 'squirrels' away her food she wants to store for later. She was a rescue from my yard, and I nursed her with kitten formula for about a month. Thank you for sharing your furry friends!

It would be so wonderful if you could crochet a little pouch for this woman who has a chipmunk with a disability named Lui (l think the channel is called Darami)....I've often though she could use a pouch for him to carry around her neck so she could bring him with her instead of Lui staying in a small cage

I just rescued a gray squirrel last week. I'd say about 8-10 weeks, not positive. In a bank parking lot with one small tree, it was hopping along concrete. I searched and waited for mama but nothing. Poor baby was so hungry. I finally reached a friend who is a vet. They took it in. Weird place to find a baby squirrel. Super sweet though 🥰

I saw my first flying squirrel last night. Wild but friendly. His tail touched my head when I was standing under the bird feeder oblivious to his presence. I stood back and saw him. I thought he was stuck in the mesh but when I touched him he moved a couple feet up on to the rafters. I took a pic and he hung out for a while longer on the feeder. Cool experience.

I have a southern flying squirrel that I took in after a dog found it. Her back legs didn't work at all and she was aggressive. I would pet her with a tooth brush and after a few weeks with my finger and within a month or two, she was climbing all over me. She regained a little bit of use or her back legs but she would never survive in the wild. She usually comes out to play at night. When shes done playing, she beelines for her cage no matter where she is in the house. I've had her about a year now.

I just found a little southern flying squirrel whose back legs are not working. I thought he was a baby, but after watching Zippy, I think he is near full grown. You said your squirrel’s back legs didn’t work either and that later she was, not fully, but better. That was encouraging. Thank you for sharing.

Outstanding work as always! I had heard about flying squirrels but I didn’t realize they were in my area in Northwest New Jersey. One night I found one flying through my house must’ve got into the chimney. It was fascinating and I was finally able to corral it outside so it could be free. Thanks Zach keep up the great work.

I have 7 flying squirrels. They all love to speed around their cage and stuff all of the cages pockets to the brim with foam. They used to have a smaller cage in my room when they’re was less of them, but when it got to 7 I got a big bird cage for them in the living room which is nice because they’re not keeping me up at night with squeaks. The most I interact with them while in their cage is putting nuts through the cage bars for them to grab from and I’ll sometimes open up the cage to pet them if they’re not all running around crazy because I don’t want them escaping. I have a pouch that goes around your neck that let the squirrels rummage around in and I have a net tent so I can play around with them without them hiding somewhere around the house. How I first got the squirrels was when my family was taking care of 2 flying squirrels this crazy cat breeder lady who’s daughter is one of my moms friends. After a few weeks of the lady making us take care the the little lads for longer, she just decided to give them to us. Eventually they had babies, or at least babies that lived getting us up to 5 flying squirrels. Also, I’d like to say how great the momma squirrel is: she would always show us here babies, taking them out of their little pockets and carrying them with her neck; and when the squirrels after a few years had 2 more squirrels, I saw momma bring out a baby onto the side of the cage to teach it how to climb. Anyway that’s all, however, I would not recommend 7 flying squirrels to anyone. We can’t release any because they’re too domesticated and no one has bought any so we’re stuck with over half a dozen squirrels, they are cute though so maybe 7 flying squirrels isn’t such a bad thing, even if the rest of my family thinks it is. Now if they have more babies, I don’t know what I’ll do.

I don't have flying squirrels, but I have sugar gliders and they definitely all have their own personalities like zippy. My oldest male is such a grump and always tries to act territorial even though he's so tiny. My girls are sweet, but shy, but definitely will say hi to get treats. And my two twin boys are very social but like to run, jump, climb, nibble, and try to go on un-authorized adventures lol. I love how even tiny animals have such big personalities.

Years ago we had a ice storm. A friend and I was out walking in the woods and saw flying squirrels had died from the storm. I forgot how many I’m thinking it was three . But we did fine one alive so do to his home being destroyed I got a glove and caught him . Took him home and keep him alive tell the ice melted. I then returned him to the woods. But the fur they have is the most softest fur on a animal I’ve ever felt . And yes I was going by the dead ones lol

My cat came to the door with a flying squirrel in its mouth. Took the squirrel in and have been trying to comfort & care for it. He actually seemed to relax when I held & stroked him - really surprised me. Has been about 24 hours, but poor thing won't eat or drink. Worried. He doesn't seem obviously injured, but wonder if maybe something internal. He's about the cutest thing I've ever seen. Thanks for this video and hint about apples. Gonna try more with them.

When I was a kid we raised a litter of 4 little flying squirrels that had their mother accidently killed and the farmer who found them brought them to our house and asked what he should do with them. We took them in and my dad built a cage with a little house in it and we kept it in a room in the house that was quiet but was around the family. We fed them and played with them until they got old enough to release and we took the cage to the woods and opened the doors on it and made sure there was food and water available in it for a while and let them make their way out in the wilderness. They hung around for a while but eventually left "the nest" and never returned.

Awesome squirrels and glad you could share. I would've liked to see more information on diet, as I am a new flying squirrel owner. They differ to the Eastern gray squirrel's diet. Also, just a friendly piece of advice, when feeding baby squirrels with s syringe, always have the point of the syringe pointing upward, or a 45 degree angle, pointing downward as to avoid aspiration.

We rescued a flying squirrel that almost got run over. I was smitten the moment I saw her adorable face and funny personality. I got her a large bird cage and made rope climbs and stairs and a dirt pit for her to dig, put nuts and fruit to let her forage but she seems lonely. We also have a rabbit and was wondering if they would get along if in the same cage together. I would like to let them have play dates but cant seem to find any info on whether or not that would be a good idea. Not sure if it matters but the rabbit is a male and the squirrel I believe is a female.

We only had one that was fussy drinking the powdered goats milk but we pressed bits of apple in a vice and when he would stop eating we would dip the syringe tip in the apple juice and he would get interested in eating more.

We raised the baby rabbit in a cage until it was big enough to release. Love wildlife, Gods creation.

Actually sugar gliders and flying squirrels are completely different but they have similar features. Sugar gliders have pouches and are mammals whereas the Flying Squirrel does not. I'd imagine that having a pet flying squirrel would require a lot of care, but sugar gliders from my experience require a lot more. ( I guess I wouldn't know too much about having a pet flying squirrel because I've never had one) Their diets are completely different as well. They are equally as cute though!

I rescued a Flying Squirrel yesterday from the clutches of a cat. He/she is no worse for wear and I have been watching it and looking for inquires and it is ok. It has been eating sunflower seeds and grapes and drinking water from a syringe. I will keep him/her for another day and night to make sure but he is very active and climbs all over me and sits on top of my head. I want to relocate it somewhere. I have a couple of nature parks close (cat free I hope). I am guessing releasing it toward evening is best. Any suggestions on where and when? Im in Michigan btw.
