IMHO one of the very best video recordings available of Otello ... Renée is not only great is the high floating notes of Act 4 (although at 9:34 you can feel exactly what I mean), but also able to convey incredible dramatic power in the 'confrontation scenes of Act 3 ... I think her dramatic engagement can only be compared with Scotto in video recordings (In Met prod with Vickers) ... Renée was not only able so sing 'like an angel' as suggested by some critics, she was actually also a great interpreter with incredible dramatic power as many live recordings show us (as an example have a look on this private video recording of Faust with Ramey where both of them 'give it all' in the super dramatic Faust 'church scene' th-cam.com/video/dkRO6I8teps/w-d-xo.html ) ... NO Renée is not only a "beautiful voice" but also a great performer on stage ;)
@@Classicvideofan Oh Yes to everything you mentioned! Her acting skills developing even more during her period of personal strifes around 98-99. Her intelligent way of using her instrument for the most effectual and expressive outcome is extraordinary. Mostly though still keeping a beautiful tone. Also her vibrato is outstanding. In folk songs for instant you would never guess… It is a tiny bit slower today in classical singing but always perfect through the line till last sound. Perfect time stamp! Thanks! She knows how to build up for an outburst. Also the final of Adieu, notre petite table is always thrilling even in 2020. The energy in her voice up until maybe the mid 20s is just so enthralling to say the least. And this scene exhibit many of her qualities and the prayer is just heavenly Gorgeous. I thought this needed to be available here. Sorry about the quality but I might try again some day. Thank you for commenting!
@@chaan280There's another clip of her here on TH-cam singing "Ave Maria" from apparently the same footage because she, the costume & the set down to the bed sheets all looked exactly the same, but it has the year "2012" in the title. Since Google says she's currently 65 y/o, that would put her age in 2012 ito be in the early 50s, which is more consistent with whom I'm seeing now. But the other channel then claims that this performance was just 3 weeks after she gave birth to her 2nd daughter so that should have been in the 90s when she'd have been in her 30s having babies. Lol. Antways, I also think from the video/audio quality alone, it definitely screams early 2010s to me. But I guess my main thing here is that if rhis wasn't it, since I've only recently gotten interested in her (through this clip of yours actually!! it's' now my 4th or so visit lol), I'd really love to see and hear her sing this role when she was at her peak prime when the opera world just witnessed a new star soprano begin to shine.
@@Dr__Feelgood Love your interest and curiosity! There is a clip on YT from another performance in 2012, that’s correct but this is from her premiering the role in 1995 with Placid Domingo. She had just given birth to her second daughter Sage. She was 36. 😊
@@chaan280 Oh wow, that's either a compliment or the opposite for her. 🤪 Maybe she was just born looking that way and never changed lol. She's a vampire. 😈 That explains it all 🤣. And the Met just recyvles everything it can including their bed sheets to save their precious beggar money. All understandable.
Placer y emoción, escuchar esta increible interpretación.!!
Que maravillosa interpretación.!!
In this and in Thaïs, Rusalka, Countess -- the full lyric roles -- she was absolutely unbeatable.
Agreed💖

But when was this actual performance filmed, though? This couldn't have been the one from 1995 that Beverly Sills was speaking of?
It is. October 1995. Probably not opening night though. It was telecast in January 1996.
