    I like your down-to-earth, no frills sensible and useful advice. And *thank you* for not incorporating useless and annoying background music. You will go from strength to strength.

    Good tutorial, the only bit of information I’d add is that you may need (and it’s okay to use) a brush to kick excessive dirt before you clean and condition your boots. I’m a commercial electrician in a very dirt happy area of the country, I have to use a fairly stiff brush to knock off the heavy dirt off my Red Wing Roughnecks

    • @rogerweiner5651
      @rogerweiner5651 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What kind of brush do you use? I can’t find a brush safe enough to use on leather than has the strength of a steel wire to get all of the dirt that is stuck in the crease that connects the boot to the sole.

    Thank you so much.

    I live in west Texas, I leave my boots in the sun for 40 minutes- 1 Hour the longest. In the winter well ya over night inside. Also I use a soft toothbrush to get in those deep spots like the welts and the guest. Also I use a sponge the apply and conditioner as it spreads it nicely and it allows me once again to get in those tight spaces. Another thing I do is put a light coat of the conditioner on the inside and if the soul is a veg tan I apply there as well. Breaks in the boot nicely and keeps the inside from falling apart. Had a pair of RedWings Iron rangers since I was 18 now 44 and only had 3 re-soul. My Nicks since I was 20 and only 2 re-soul. Every time I get a complement on how the soul and inside has kept up. Just saying the inside needs love too just not as much. I do the inside about 3 times a year.

    Kiwi saddle soap moisturizes also no need to condition with kiwi soap. Just like moisturizing body wash no need to lotion up or ull feel greasy not to mention it changes the color

    How often do you recommend cleaning leather shoes/boots that get 1-2 wears a week? My understanding is that maybe 1-2 a year is enough, assuming your are doing regular conditioning. Is that right?

    I used Palmolive dish soap . Works just as good . Got the brush at the $ store . Left the boots over night . Re condition them with the less expensive Venetian shoe cream . Perfect.

    • @colesisler582
      @colesisler582 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That can be fine short term but that will, over time, strip way too much moisture from the boots. But it’s good that you used Venetian as that has magical restorative properties making the soap of choice not a big problem. I’d recommend designated saddle soap in the future. The cheap kind is fine especially if you’re using Venetian shoe cream.

    Make sure the conditioner does not have any waxes in it like beeswax it will clog the pores making your boots hot.

      @mardenhill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it depends on the cleaning. if you submerged the boots or shoes in distilled water, you will have to wait for 1-2 days for them to completely dry again. 30 minutes would never be enough.

    This shit is a scam or just for hipsters that sit in offices and don't actually get their boots dirty. Dish soap works fine. Put them on your boot dryer overnight then the next day put obenaufs on. There's nothing better if you actually use boots for their intended purpose.

    Saddle soap changes the PH of the leather which will lead to cracking eventually
