My dad was amazing, I miss him so much. I would happily give him every gift to have him back for 5 mins.
I feel the same. I would do anything to see my dad again. Its been 4 years next year since he has passed. I miss him everyday.

I'd honestly give anything to have my stepdad back - if nothing else, to make my mum smile again. I would have been over the moon to introduce him to my wife, to see him meeting my sister's first baby. I'd give anything to have him back. He was fantastic.

It's almost like he knows that the idea of a white bearded old stranger coming to the house actually sounds creepy when you really think about it.
My son had that problem when we first told him a giant bunny came into his room and left chocolates on his bed: "what? He came in while I was sleeping?"
Yeah. It's fine when you think of Santa as a magical being, not a real human. However the origins make it way more disturbing.
Santa apparently came from a few sources, one of which was a man who did time in prison after being caught breaking into homes, and leaving presents for children. It doesn't take much to figure out his most likely motive.
It's darkly funny to me that we teach children to beware of strangers, only to tell them to accept gifts from, Santa, and let in our homes. And force them to sit on the lap of a guy dressed up as a character based on a probable child predator.
Need to stop smoking this plant, while watchin Russell cracks me up 2much! 🤣 mad giggles...

About not buying dad a gift. Some dads are notoriously hard to shop for! If I asked my dad what he wanted, the answer was always, "Eh, don't bother", or "I don't need anything". And anything you *thought* he might like or need, he'd usually already bought himself long before December, including any books or CDs or videos. I usually ended up getting him some tchotchke or a tie or a stupid mug until we ran out of room for tchotchkes, ties and mugs. Even asking for mom's help never improved things.
Get a tin of qualitystreet or some kind of chocolate. Always the way to go with people like that

My Dad's the same, he's told me he's not bothered about presents and that I should save my money but I don't want to leave him out so I just buy him Chocolate that he likes instead. He's also geeky but doesn't like clutter, so I only occasionally buy him nerdy stuff from the series he likes. XD
Mine always get a box of Lynx spray and shower gel.
I normally get him something else also depending what I find he'd like. He likes insects, snakes, spiders, and all the gothic type stuff so he's pretty easier to shop for.
Mother just loves money, sometimes I feel she loves money more than her own children..
My dad is exactly the same. I can't buy him whisky because he's on tablets, I can't buy him sweets because he's diabetic 🙄

I am Canadian, from Edmonton. I have flown at -40 degrees. I will never forget flying into Edmonton from Arizona.the pilot announced very nonchalantly that it was clear, no wind and -40 Centigrade on the ground in Edmonton. For all you Americans, -40 Centigrade equals -40 Fahrenheit. You could here a collective gasp of horror from all southerners!
I once flew home to Northern Canada after leaving outback Australia. I entered the airport in Mt Isa, Qld at 42 c, and next went outside in Toronto where it was -20c, lower with windchill. In TO we only exited to walk over to a Dash 8 for the trip to Sudbury, where it was -42 before wind.
Guess who only wore a light jacket and packed my cold weather gear. That damned Dash 8 was still freezing when we got to Sudbury. Fun stuff.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't expect anyone to get me anything, and that goes for both christmas and birthday.
I always just buy whatever I want and or need so I can imagine a portion of that percentage are women who have dads that think like I do.
Would rather people just keep their money, especially if they are kids... Just buy yourselves something or save it.

-12C closing schools is hilarious as a Canadian. No. That isn't "colder than Alaska". 🙄 The temperature today is -33 today. We're no where near Alaska and while cold for the 22nd of December, kids are still playing hockey in the street today. Alaska saw -48C this week.
You can't compare it though. Canada, Alaska and Scandinavia are build for this type of weather, the UK isn't. Similar to how Canada being 50°C would be absolutely fucked while Dubai and Australia are in their in their peak element.
You absolutely cannot compare the 2, just because -12 doesn't halt your country, there's probably a reason. Try living in the UK with that temperature, you can't get food as you're snowed in and live in the middle of nowhere so a snowplough ain't coming, oh and the cooker, hob, heating and everything is connected electrically and there's a power cut. ..Oh yes, and you have to work outside in it. Don't let any of the lambs die, that's what's paying for your livelihood.
