    I actually feel incredibly lucky to have encountered the German version before the American version. Bland opening titles aside, I never felt a synth pop tune sat well with the esoteric and mystical themes and imagery (although, I love listening to the song by itself!). The American version also cuts short scenes of dialogue, including with Gmork and the Childlike Empress.
    I first watched this film when I was 23. It changed my life, and I’m writing children’s fiction because of it!

    My earliest memory of Never Ending Story was being sick in hospital around 1986-7 and I had to stay there for like several nights and they only had two VHS tapes, one was some movie I don't even remember what it was and the other was Never Ending Story. I would watch that over and over again as even the nurse got so sick of it when I would say as a 6 year old "Please put on Never Ending Story again." And she would be like "Don't you wanna see the other movie?" Ha ha, I bet I drove her crazy. No joke, must have seen it at least 10x when I was in that hospital. But to this day, I still don't know what I was there for and neither does my mum, or she refuses to tell me.

    Great video Oliver love your videos! Lisa is amazing film maker and its been a pleasure to watch her documentaries, specially on movies that i grew up with and saw in the cinemas 1st time back in the 80s. Lisa as touched a fondness that i have for all things 80s( Thank You Lisa). I have both Life after Flash and Navigator which are outstanding and such a pleasure to own on Blu-ray. So that why i funded Never-ending Story doc way back in 2021 when Lisa first announce it. So looking forward to it!

    As far as I'm aware, after the first movie Michael Ende has ZERO involvement with any future sequels because he hated the experience of the first one so much. Which explains A LOT about the quality of them.

    • @LifeAfterMoviesWebShow
      @LifeAfterMoviesWebShow ปีที่แล้ว

      he actually was involved with the 2nd and 3rd parts, which is surprising but confirmed to me by the producers wife

      @Charles12 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifeAfterMoviesWebShow oh interesting. I read a Cinefantastique article on the 2nd one where Ende said he didn't love the changes to his work but accepted them. On the 3rd one, he let them do whatever with it. I guess the 1st one took too much out of him to care to influence something he had no control over, but I have a hard time imagining he actually liked the sequels.
