Those of us who were in our teens and twenties in the 1980's were truly blessed, we had an embarrassment of riches in terms of pop/rock singers, composers, songwriters, bands and musicians; I honestly believe the world will never again witness such a large concentration of raw musical talent within the same decade even if the universe lasts another trillion years.
Still my favorite Scandal song by FAR. Not sure why, but this song has a magical element to it that transcends a normal radio friendly tune. There is real passion and spirit in the way Patti sang this, combined with great backing music and excellent engineering to add just the right amount of reverb, echo and all that at key points to make this a song that you can crank in your headphones and listen to on repeat. Love Patti, her music, her energy, and her spirit. She's truly a gift to planet earth for the rest of us to enjoy during our sojourns here.
Yeah, if there is a Top 10 of 80s albums (and how hard would that be to put together given how much incredible music came out then?), this should definitely be in there as a perfect example of the music of the 80s. I'd have to struggle to put together that Top 10, though. So many great albums to choose from.

Even in 2023 this is still a badass song. Patty was in the running to be lead vocals for Van Halen after Dave left. I'm extremely happy they chose Hagar for obvious reasons but I wonder what she would have sounded like with them?

I was a young 19 year old Army PFC on my first tour in Germany when this came out. One of my battle-buddy's had his mom send some music videos on a VHS tape and this was one of them. I fell in love instantly with Patty and the song. She really sings her songs the way she feels them, and in the process she makes you feel them too. I just wish I could ahve seen them in concert.

Beat of A Heart was that tune for me! It also amazingly charted at #41. The Kinks had 2 singles do that in their career; The Cars had three! Hard to believe a band had 2 like that from 1 album! Two missed opportunities to be commented on by Casey Kasem which was a big deal back then!
Scandal was one of the most under-rated bands in rock history, and Patty Smyth was one of the most under-rated female vocalists. This song (and "Beat of a Heart") have earned their places on all my playlists. What a great band!
