Great. Just got the A1 for Christmas after getting the A1 mini in October "my very first 3d printer" Now I gotta have this one. How does the ease of use compare to Bambu? I haven't used anything other than Bambu studios.
Congrats on your first 3D printer purchase! 🎉 I’ll be doing a more in-depth review soon, comparing this unit to something like the Bambu P1S, since there are a few key differences to note.
One of the biggest things you’ll notice is that the Elegoo Slicer is built on the same code base as Bambu Studio, meaning the interface feels almost identical. However, as of now, there’s no dedicated app or direct integration with a marketplace like Makerworld for one-click printing. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Elegoo is working on something similar in the future.
For now, the workflow is super simple-I just download any STL or 3MF file and drop it straight into Elegoo Slicer, and honestly, it feels like printing on one of my Bambu machines.
At this price point, with the build quality and feature set, the Centauri Carbon is an excellent choice-whether you’re adding another printer to your setup or making your very first purchase. Stay tuned for the full review! 🚀
I was going to buy the A1 until they recently changed the terms of use in a way that forces you to upload every print file to their cloud and have it "authorized" before you can download the file again to the printer.
@thevoid6756 Hey, I totally get your concern! The recent changes in Bambu Lab’s terms have raised a lot of questions, and cloud dependency is something many users are keeping an eye on. While the A1 still allows for local printing via SD card or LAN mode, the default workflow does rely on the cloud, which may not be ideal for everyone.
If full local control is a priority for you, there are definitely other great options out there like the Elegoo Centauri Carbon, which allows direct printing without cloud integration. It’s always good to weigh the pros and cons based on your specific needs. What features are most important to you in a printer?
@ I am totally new to 3d printing so I don't want to break the bank with something like a Prusa. The Elegoo looks like a great choice for me. Since I lack experience, I can't really say much about requirements I need.I am primarily interested in a 3D printer to make PC parts like fan ducts and case panels so I need to be able to print materials with a decent service temperature. Also I would like to print clear materials if possible.
@thevoid6756 That’s awesome! The Elegoo Centauri Carbon is definitely a solid choice, especially if you're just getting into 3D printing and want a feature-rich machine without breaking the bank.
For PC parts like fan ducts and case panels, you’ll likely want to print with materials like PETG, ABS, or ASA, since they offer better heat resistance than standard PLA. The good news is that the Centauri’s enclosed chamber helps regulate temperature, making it a great option for those materials.
As for clear materials, you can print transparent PETG.
Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy to help you!
No possibility for multi colour?
I have not been told about an AMS so far. But I wouldn't doubt it's in development.
You failed to mention that its not released yet. At least to normal people without TH-cam Channels. Also, Video Sponsor? Did they send it to you for free or in exchange for a positive video? How did you got one? $100 more you can have a time tested multi-color capable power house of a machine. Bambu Lab P1S. $800 and you get the machine and AMS. Somehow without being released its topping charts as the best around. Ill stick with time tested. Also a new person to 3D printing would be more than happy with an A1 with AMS lite for $500.
I completely understand your concerns! The Centauri Carbon hasn’t been fully released yet (Feb 17th. I included this information in the description and pinned comment), and I should have clarified that better. I received a unit early to test, but as always, I aim to provide unbiased feedback, regardless of sponsorship.
The Bambu Lab P1S with AMS is definitely a solid option, especially for multi-color printing, but not everyone needs that capability right away. I enjoyed printing 100's of kg filament without a single multi color print. Even today multicolor printing is less than 10% of my total prints. The Centauri offers a great entry point for those looking for an enclosed CoreXY printer at a competitive price. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference and what features matter most to you!
Sounded like àpaid comercial.
I get why it might come across that way, but this is just my honest take on the printer. I always aim to give a fair breakdown of the features. If there’s something specific you’d like to know about the Centauri Carbon, I’m happy to share my experience!
