So glad to see this put up as that little interlude from Johnson is perhaps my favourite part of the entire documentary. Yes, Johnno, indeed they will. All of them.
Martin Johnson calling out names that are going to get it whilst Dallagio is pulling that face and shouting! That’s going to get any man ready for a battle
What I find astonishing about this is that it is exactly how village teams prepare to go out against their local rivals, I'm surprised they don't finish with running on the spot counting to ten... I would have thought at Lions level it would at least be a bit more tactical/analytical. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, I love the fact that they are like 'normal' rugby players, although I never quite got into the "psyching-up just before a game" stuff... I remember one game when we were in the changing room beforehand and our second row was shouting at our captain "Motivate me!!!" ... Hang on, you've had since the team was announced, probably 2-3 days beforehand, to prepare for the game. You're obviously physically fit and good enough at rugby to get picked, you know it probably entails getting the crap knocked out of you... what do you want me to tell you that will prepare you better for the next 80 minutes? And anyway, it's the last 20 minutes of a match you need to get psyched up for.
They are elite level rugby players with the very best coaching. They have drilled and drilled and drilled everything a million times before this moment and spoke tactics until falling asleep. There’s no need to go over it all last minute before taking the pitch they all know exactly what is needed and what the strategy is. This is before taking battle and getting ready. If you’ve been at any level of the sport beyond village teams that’s pretty common.
Remember this was the 1997 tour . Sports psychology wasn't what it is now back then. The likes of Keith Wood and Johnno are natural leaders not taught how to lead which is the case with many modern players.
They lost 45 - 3……… Johnson tried to punch Teichman ,slipped and was concussed for the rest of the game. I think he was given a red card after the game once he had woken up.
@@Macron87 Because SA have won a lot of their important games including two WC finals without scoring a try but out scoring their opponents by kicking all their points.
This is the best reason for keeping cameras and microphones out of the team room. It should be a private space where sportsmen can say whatever embarrassing thing they want and it never comes to light.
