I just completed a Undercover/Bad Guy Hunter Inspired 77-78 Dodge Monaco for my channel. I have to say I kept going back to your video for reference and it got me back into watching Hunter. I did use the AMT 71 Charger for the underside of mine and the 440. Keep doing what you do. Your videos are great reference material for my builds...the silver pencil technique works great for my dashes and has gotten a lot of compliments...which I give you credit for. Sorry about the long comment, but I wanted to let you know. Take care man! -Cliff

Nicely done!!! I loved Hunter as well. Great show, and l loved his Dodge.
I bought this kit based on your review. Thx for an excellent review and build, you've got a great methodology in how you present the kit(s). Your balanced approach to building yields terrific results, & it's absolutely awesome that you actually include a full build! Great choices in kits too btw 👌🤠 - your figure kit reviews are cool too.
Great seeing the Hunter car, I did one in brown about 15 years back done as a stunt car with full rollcage and an air cannon in the back seat for the roll overs. You'll have to pick up the MPC Daytona to do Dee Dee's car next!
Great job! The Hunter cars were a little darker green and repainted often. I think the kit tires are a bit fat, i swapped mine for Monogram Goodyears. Also the TV cars didn't have the styled mirrors. They had about a half dozen Dodges at any time, All former LAPD and CHP cars. I interviewed Fred Dryer once, great guy, very quiet and dignified. Also VERY TALL! Move the drivers seat back a coupla feet...
For the kit bashers, the engine from this kit fits the AMT Dodge Little Red Express kit pretty well. The body fits the 1/24 Monogram 81/82 NASCAR Thunderbird chassis with some minor fender triming.
Nice work as always ! So glad that this kit is out again ! A couple of items re: California cars : They certainly *do* rust ! My 1972 Coronet spent a lot of time at the beach (prior owner worked at Los Angeles Int'l Airport) , so all of the salty air and sand rusted the car from the top-down . Never-the-less... Good call on the ambre turn signals ! That was a 1977-only deal ; 1978's reverted to red-coloured turn signals ( I despise red turn signals ! ) . On that interior : would've liked to have seen black rubber mats instead of 'carpet' ; all police / taxi models had black rubber mats .
Another great one Chris and 10/10 for making it as Hunter's car! Although making Roscoe's cruiser would be cool too. Really liking the body color and the old man tan interior lol! So understated and a perfect undercover car. I always thought the Monaco would make a great big block sleeper to create havoc with unsuspecting racers. Thanks for sharing this and as Hunter would say, "works for me"!
man I learned so much from you I can't even begin to explain thank you and I love this build I was thinking about buying it and I knew you had a video for it so I went back and checked it out peace
i believe it was monogram which put out the 69 roadrunner kit, that kit had the actual "cop car" slotted wheels, chris did a fairly spot on job with this car, having been a mopar owner for years the only discrepancies are with the kit itself, there are a few things the cars i've owned have had different, but hey, it's a model, as chris has said on other builds, build it for you
Great build! We like Hunter too (and while I've not owned any of Hunter's junkers, LOL, I have owned 3 Daytona Z cars, an '84 like Dee Dee's--you can tell it's '84 by the 4 lug wheels, '85 and newer ones had 5 lugs--an '86 CS Shelby, and an '89 Shelby Z with that "VNT Turbo"). You can now watch Hunter (I'm pretty sure it's all of the seasons/episodes) on Hulu 😁✌
Great job on a not so great kit. That a late 70's Monaco is still hanging around is pretty darn cool. I used the goon car to creat a Louisiana state police car. Hi-po mopar big blocks were orange, lo-po were Chrysler blue. Stellar job on the kit, especially the paint
Hi,ive ben wanting to see this model out of the box,ive ben looking for i geuss the plymouth fury of this car,but after seeing yours you built i think i will have to get one to add to my other great mopar collection.i enjoyed the review and the build, thanks chris.
Gotta be one of the rarest cars these days. This and the Plymouth Fury due to those models being the go to law enforcement vehicles in TV and movies threw out the 70s and 80s. Sadly Hollywood wasn’t afraid to trash them.
Those MoPars were the go-to for PD and state fleet buys so they were plentiful and CHEAP at the end of their service lives. Movie car fleet operators will squeeze a nickel till the buffalo bleeds.
Great work! Building the kit as a car from Hunter makes it far more interesting than the Joker car. Now you have me wondering if there ever was a 1/25 scale Buick kit released that could be built as Kojak's ride!
Okay Chris, this is now my favorite episode/build. But, I have always been a sucker for cop cars. Love em all. Love all the details, from the paint to the 101 extra parts, it's all cool. Gr8 job on that paint, really authentic. Good job on everything. Remember the old Yodel kits, the old curbside models, I believe they also made a Monaco if I'm not mistaken. But, I especially like the little, red outside light, very cool. God Bless you n have a safe weekend. Tom
So... this is where I am.. until this video I'd never seen or even heard of Hunter. (Don't think they showed it in the UK) Right now I'm 3 shows in & completely hooked! You did that!
It was shown on ITV late on Friday nights, early Saturday morning. Great show with a good sense of humour and decent action. Worth a look. It's available on DVD .
I remember that show. I think i liked it. I think the original model was the Force 440 police car, maybe California Highway Patrol? I kinda assumed it was from the Clint Eastwood movies, Magnum Force. This is one of those kits that should always be in production cause there so much you can do with it
Another kit ive started to buy this and the reissue Hazzard County patrol car since I like the 77 dodge monaco, the Plymouth fury, and the dodge coronet based car and also the 77 dodge charger non se trim car but a 2dr, seen on the emergency tv show and in a few episodes of the Fall Guy tv show, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the almost $54 for either kit so I never bought it instead i bought the monogram second gen dodge 440+6 coronet or super bee, and the ertyl version of the 69 dodge charger Daytona molded in white so it was like the 2001 reissue, and the aforementioned a few videos ago iroc Camaro z28 85 molded in red and chrome z28/RS specific 5spoke star wheels the iroc ironically and the 91-92 RS used a very similar wheel its wider flat spoke wheel no deep inset spokes and the iroc and the last of the third Gen RS cars have 16 inch aluminum wheels..
A good build of a Police/Gov POS, I worked for a company that had a lot of these but the motor and wheels would have to be changed to a Lindberg slant six and thinner rims and wheels. Maybe time to build one of these again Thanks
When I seen the video in my supscribesion box I said to myself that looks like hunters car I was right I have seen the show many times great build my freind
Hunter is past my time, wasn't watching much TV in the '80's. A few episodes on You Tube. Looks like an '80's show for sure. There's a fine line between making junky cars on purpose and naturally as a matter of routine. They don't make enough 4-door sedans and wagons. The bottom spatter paint is excellent for trunk paint.
Looks great Chris! The paint job really gave it the Hunter feel. You just need his partner now that chick with the black hair. Lol I can’t remember her name. Yes I remember watching this show back in the day. 👍🏻👍🏻
amt had a SHO taurus that was a four door, i remember building it as a kid. i think they used it as the base for a robo-cop release a few years later, but the one i did was the normal one
That’s a good idea to do it as Hunters car! I had forgotten all about that show, and I used to watch it religiously, great show! Great build Chris! I think though by 78’ Chrysler had already gone to the 400 ci engine, which was a badass engine in its own right, not only that but it being a police car it probably had the interceptor package too! Doesn’t matter though, I just thought I’d throw that in there! Great job again though Chris!! Doug
Yeah, wanted to do something different than a regular squad, something unique. I had to look that up too, and google showed me Car and Driver did a test of a police package 440 78 Monaco once. So that's cool. It was only available for police dept orders it said and they were impressed that it had a 150mph speedo in the dash. Thanks!
hpiguys Workshop - oh ok I guess they did still had the 440 in certain cars! I figured it had the 400 in it because a friend of mine’s Mom had a 77-78? Dodge Magnum , she bought brand new off the lot, around that same time but anyway it had the 400 in it and like I said that engine was pretty badass too! Anyhow, appreciate it buddy!
FUBAR Model Yard - oh ok Benny, I thought Chrysler had faded the 440 out around 75-76 , as far as cars go but I guess I should asked a MOPAR Guy! You’re like my cousin and buddies up in Middletown Ohio, that’s all them guys ever knew was MOPAR, oh I ain’t knocking MOPAR, I always liked them but my old man raised me up on Chevrolet, mainly, I still know a little about MOPAR, not all! lol! Thanks Benny!
I like what you did for his car! I'm even tempted to get this car in HobbyLobby, AC Moore or Michaels for a Goon car aaand use the police parts for the dodge Ramcharger from the movie "the Hitcher" from 1980's
That's an awesome job! I've really enjoyed it! Congrats! I used to put some model cars together in the past. Nowadays, I'm pretty much a diecast car collector, as it can be seen in my channel! Well, pal, it's one more like and one more subscriber!
Cool kit and build Chris, Looks like that would build up to be a nice Al Bundy Dodge, I've been looking for a kit close to his, I know he had 2 a blue one in the early years then he got the rust colored red one he had and loved so much (to much, Lol)
Yes, an Al Bundy car would be cool!!!! I had to google it to see what he drove, all the sources say it's a 72 Plymouth Duster with a vinyl roof that he keeps calling a Dodge. AND I see that AMT is re-popping the 71 Duster very very soon.... and the only real difference is slightly bigger tail lights which no one would care about unless they are a rivet counter. www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amt1118m.htm
Awesome, thanks for the link bro!! I just remember how much he loved that thing even if he had to push it everywhere he went! I think he had the old school rag for a gas cap to Lol. Thanks again Chris...................... Mike(Whitey).
I Got a Partially Built older Batman Release of this kit. It was missing a Few pieces.. A Friend Have it yo me for free. He was just going to use it as "crushed car" on a Flat bed trailer behind a heavy duty truck I'm using Headlights for Converting A Starsky n Hutch Gran Torino into a Torino Elite Then I'll later build this into a Wild 2 dr highly Customized Street Machines Show Car Yes Engine is a 440 big block Distributor Slanted in front identifies it as 440
And there is a few dodge charger se 75-77 Chrysler Cordoba cars have a resin body but I don't know if they made the interior dash and door panels and don't know how to retrofit it in the car?!
The front door panels and the dash and dash pad were in the cars I mentioned, also the 78-79 dodge magnum xe and GT, and the Cordoba and the 79 Chrysler 300, the 75-77 Plymouth road runner and sport custom fury cool!!
Good choice making it Hunter car And paint out good those Plymouth cars was popular in taxi police so many back then now hard do find the joker did you good job on him. Batman it was good tv show with Adam west the batmobile was awesome better look then the another bat car
Another two ideas is the furious fury its a drag car pro Street Plymouth fury, and the car Eddie Winslow built from a old squad car on the tv series family matters
Thanks Alfie! I hear you my man, I really do. The thing is those big ships take a LOONNGGGG time to build and at the moment I'm kept busy with new release reviews. If I do end up with a time gap between new kit issues I might grab one of the medium sized ones and bust it out, like the Pinta or something.
While i'm glad they are still releasing the Monaco again, the Joker gang actually drive Dodge 3700 and Chevy Malibu. looks like they still have the racing tires instead of more appropriate narrow tires.
On Flaws of these Monoco Patrol Car kits. Is. Racing Sport Mirrors weren't used on Patrol Cars. Round or Rectangular plain Jane mirrors. Ditto for Hunter's undercover. Racing mirrors were extra cost. So low. Cost were used All Cop cars
Chris that same kit was also featured as t j hooker cop car as well that kit i believe came with black tinted glass be awesome to see em bring it back out
hpiguys Workshop yeah and that bebe heather locklear i use to watch hunter all the time and here awhile back i was watching in the heat of the night and there was a faded out green Monaco about the same color as the one u painted up i use to have a dodge aspen that was green green out side and inside as well
Funny I just told me son how ugly that Joker car was,LOL. After watching your review I think I want to build one. I have some Electric Pink left over from a previous build. How often do you get a chance to paint a car in pink? Nice job. Would have liked to see a close-up of the dash. Keep up the great job.
We'd want to do as a car the Mount Prospect City Police Department bought after auctioning off their '74 Monaco cruisers... Speaking of... anyone do a '74 Monaco sedan? And a S.C.M.O.D.S. terminal?
I just completed a Undercover/Bad Guy Hunter Inspired 77-78 Dodge Monaco for my channel. I have to say I kept going back to your video for reference and it got me back into watching Hunter. Haha, thanks Dan!
“Works for me.” I’ve bought two of this kit since your review. Nice Hunter Monaco and Joker looks cool.
Thanks Clifton!
I have the old version of this kit and will buy this new version. Nice build.
Thanks Jefferson!
I would like more 4 door models !!!!!! Building regular cars is even more exciting than the obvious classic models !

Fred Dryer was a pretty good NFL player. Loved his small role in Cannonball Run II.

Great looking build, i remember my parents watching Hunter years ago and yeah he sure did beat the snot out of those cars.

I bought that kit (Joker Car / Gotham City Police) about 20 odd years ago. Back then it was moulded in black plastic. Not a bad kit for its age.

great build. like the Hunter twist.

Great work! Building the kit as a car from Hunter makes it far more interesting than the Joker car. Now you have me wondering if there ever was a 1/25 scale Buick kit released that could be built as Kojak's ride!

No Buick kits, just a die cast.

I'm using Headlights for Converting A Starsky n Hutch Gran Torino into a Torino Elite
Then I'll later build this into a Wild 2 dr highly Customized Street Machines Show Car
Yes Engine is a 440 big block Distributor Slanted in front identifies it as 440
As of 2-15-2024 you can get this kit at Ollie's
And there is a few dodge charger se 75-77 Chrysler Cordoba cars have a resin body but I don't know if they made the interior dash and door panels and don't know how to retrofit it in the car?!
The front door panels and the dash and dash pad were in the cars I mentioned, also the 78-79 dodge magnum xe and GT, and the Cordoba and the 79 Chrysler 300, the 75-77 Plymouth road runner and sport custom fury cool!!
Good choice making it Hunter car
And paint out good those Plymouth cars was popular in taxi police so many back then now hard do find the joker did you good job on him. Batman it was good tv show with Adam west the batmobile was awesome better look then the another bat car
Thanks!
Thanks for posting ... does any one remember a model called the "Surf Woody" probably came out around 1967 ??
There are all kinds of woody kits out there, I'm sure some were released as surfer cars back then.
The Barris Surf Woody custom came out in '65 IIRC and the kit has been reissued in the last few years
Another two ideas is the furious fury its a drag car pro Street Plymouth fury, and the car Eddie Winslow built from a old squad car on the tv series family matters
Need a c b antenna cool job
I also built this kit as Hunter's car.The body and interior are nice, but the chassis and wheels need an upgrade.
Cool, bet it turned out well. The chassis does fit loose but it works out in the end.
The oversized wheels are the bigger problem.
The joker figure is huge to scale, compared to the Monaco. Still a nice build. 👍🏻
Thanks!
Would you likely be using the leftover fire arms from the joker goon car would like to talk to you about them if you have time
I'll see if they are still around and if so, will let you know.
Love all your builds, but would you PLEASE build a large scale sailing ship? Preferably the Zvesda Ghost Ship that you reviewed a few years ago!
I’m turning mine into a defiled Gotham PD car with jokers paint markings on it
Good idea!
DON'T Worry...I Remember that show witb Actor FRED DRYER..
You do wonderful work. Love your TOB thinking. we did this as the goon car. T.O.B Final Build: Joker Goon Car - TH-cam
While i'm glad they are still releasing the Monaco again, the Joker gang actually drive Dodge 3700 and Chevy Malibu.
looks like they still have the racing tires instead of more appropriate narrow tires.
The wheels and tires are wide yes, but if you tuck them in they work. One could easily swap in some skinny wheels and tires and use the hub caps.
Whoa
Iam a new sub good looking build i left u a thumbs up 👍
Thanks!
I'll watch HUNTER on TH-cam..🤗🤗🤗
I remember Hunter, a cop who plays by his own rules! Wasn't Sledgehammer a parody of Hunter? Anyway, nice work!
It was a parody of all those single cop shows. Funny too.
I work at a Hardware Store and we Have A Good collection of RUSTOLEUM SPRAY PAINTS..😒🤗
Ese modelo trae las ruedas mas anchas que el Monaco de policía CHP
Anyone else notice the paint color is called hunter green?
Haha, nice!
1/25th scale weapons! SOLD!
Chris that same kit was also featured as t j hooker cop car as well that kit i believe came with black tinted glass be awesome to see em bring it back out
You bet, with Shatner!
hpiguys Workshop yeah and that bebe heather locklear i use to watch hunter all the time and here awhile back i was watching in the heat of the night and there was a faded out green Monaco about the same color as the one u painted up i use to have a dodge aspen that was green green out side and inside as well
He also used a brown car also.....
Yes, multiple Monacos were used over the years.
Funny I just told me son how ugly that Joker car was,LOL. After watching your review I think I want to build one. I have some Electric Pink left over from a previous build. How often do you get a chance to paint a car in pink? Nice job. Would have liked to see a close-up of the dash. Keep up the great job.
Thanks for the nice words. Enjoy!
We'd want to do as a car the Mount Prospect City Police Department bought after auctioning off their '74 Monaco cruisers...
Speaking of... anyone do a '74 Monaco sedan? And a S.C.M.O.D.S. terminal?
I always wondered why no one ever made a Blues Brothers kit with decals, etc. People would buy it for the box alone.
Damned Miss Piggy dolls took up too much shelf space at the Toys R'Us
T. J. HOOKER t.v. show police car
Hunter a a great theme
I just completed a Undercover/Bad Guy Hunter Inspired 77-78 Dodge Monaco for my channel. I have to say I kept going back to your video for reference and it got me back into watching Hunter. I did use the AMT 71 Charger for the underside of mine and the 440. Keep doing what you do. Your videos are great reference material for my builds...the silver pencil technique works great for my dashes and has gotten a lot of compliments...which I give you credit for. Sorry about the long comment, but I wanted to let you know. Take care man!
