The Acolyte Episode 6 Review

- This week, the guys enlist the help of Matt from Matt’s Collection to discuss episode 6 of the Star Wars TV series, The Acolyte. After the adrenaline rush of episode 5, expectations were pretty high, but episode 6 brought us back down to Coruscant with a bit of a lull. In discussing the episode the guys throw out some theories as to how this could all end, with only two episodes left to watch.

I admit I'm an easy grader....but I was fairly harsh on episode 3. That ritual was dumb and could've been done better. Same as the slow speed chase in Book of Boba Fett...I can't defend them.
I was saying to my brother, what I think is struggling with Star Wars is they hiring directors/ Show Runners that have never dealt with scifi/fantasy and are struggling in the way it's shot and written.

Great review, Id like to see Vanestra fall as she deserves to for her acting alone. Plagueis would have been a teenager around this time so could appear, Martyn agree about the travel sickness 😂
😂 Yeah that was a completely pointless line of dialogue. 🤦♂️ In would love a Plagueis cameo but I hope they keep him a Muun. Appreciate you watching buddy 👍👍🙏

Great review guys! I’m in complete agreement with pretty much all Martyn said this week so little to add. Only one of the three story arcs in this episode worked, Q’Mir and Osha… great location, well acted by both and a really uneasy atmosphere as he worked in turning Osha to the Dark Side. Really intrigued by his back story … how old is he?? The other two arcs were bad ( Sol and Mae) and appalling ( Vernestra and Mark 😂). Terrible acting from Vernestra and Mark and almost nothing learned. Had no idea what was going on with Bazil and PIP, why didn’t they just go to Sol?? Padding out of what could have been a 3 minute scene. Very mixed episode for me, but I’d give it a slightly more generous 5 for the Dark Side parts. 👍

Great review as always guys. For me, not the best episode, but it was ok so a fair 6/10.
It did make me laugh, seeing the Jedi Mog, as I've just watched the latest season of The Outlaws (by Stephen Merchant, BBC1) where the actor who plays Mog is in that (but better acting!)
It's going to be interesting to see how the last two episodes go

I'm loving it, I don't understand the hate for disney's Star Wars. And I still think Sol is the big bad of the series.

Not the best episode, some truly cringey dialogue. Whenever I hear Basils name I imagine the voice of Sybil Fawlty saying it. Always enjoy your breakdowns!

My least favourite episode so far. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, indifference is worse to me than either. I did get annoyed at the anachronistic 'reset to factory settings' line- and then have pip restart to have red lights instead of white.... At least they dealt with the Jedi bodies though, and didn't just leave them rotting in the woods.
I completely forgot to mention the bodies being collected. I’m glad they dealt with that 😂 I think we will be hopefully getting some big revelations next week 🤞. Appreciate you watching as always 👍👍🙏

Okay, coming off the pretty fantastic episode 5, this episode was definitely hit and miss. But the biggest failure for me was Jedi "Mark"... (Even though that's not his name, that's what he's going to be called whenever I refer to him 😂) - I don't know if this guy won a fan contest from Lucasfilm / Disney or was somebody's nephew, but boy, he really stood out like a sore thumb. Terrible.
And as in the past, Vernestra was as wooden as ever... However, I'm starting to believe that this is on purpose and not just bad acting. I can't recall if it was said in this episode of your recap show, but having the in your face link between the scars on Qimir's back and the introduction of the lightsaber whip in this episode, it is leading me to believe that, not only did she inflict those damages on him, but Vernestra may in fact be a Sith Lord. That her apprentice is Qimir. That she's used that whip on him in part of his training, and that this may be a bigger plot between the two of them to both wipe out some Jedi and lure others into the darkness. Not only did she turn him bad, but it was done purposefully. 🤔
I did like the seduction between Qimir & Osha. I felt that that part was done masterfully and just as a Sith would approach it. He's definitely able to manipulate and take advantage of her feelings.
On the other end of the spectrum for this episode, the stuff between Sol & Mae on the ship wasn't great. You guys spoke to many points in your recap episode today, so I won't beat that dead horse. But it was certainly lacking for me.
We definitely had a lot of unanswered questions going into the last two episodes of the season. Hopefully we'll get some answers and I'm also hopeful that we'll get some big reveal that will blow our minds. I may be too overly optimistically hopeful in that thought, but I would love that deeper twist at the end of the show to really cap it off.
After all the backlash, I'm not certain that the acolyte will get a second season unfortunately, because I really would love to see more from this era of Star Wars. I just hope that in the future the quality is better, the acting is better, and the overall dialogue and plot is deeper. Still, there are things to enjoy in the show and I am still withholding my final judgment until all the episodes have been released.

I was thinking about the scars on the back being from Vernestra’s lightsaber whip and I thought to myself that that is far too obvious so it could never be. Then I remembered the previous episodes and realised that is definitely what happened 🤣
I agree, I don’t think we will get a second series so hopefully they finish the season without any unanswered questions.

We’re all in agreement that it’s middle of the road Star Wars. We give our opinion and everyone is entitled to one. This certainly wasn’t the best episode but I don’t think people can deny that episode 5 was great!
