Have you been scammed as a gardener? Share your experiences below to warn other gardeners of the pitfalls.
I'm sorry you got scammed. But how would you have known? It's maddening how people can do this. By looking at the packaging it looks very nicely done.
I know. I guess if I had grown the ageratum before I might have been able to tell but honestly I don't tend to analyse the seeds I just sow them.
Yes, I’ve been scammed on Amazon too. I ordered comfrey seeds and they turned out to be borage. there was no seller name specified. I learned my lesson.
Yep I bought “pink” and “purple” sunflowers, I don’t care they aren’t correct but I sent seed to children who I thought would love them. I think it’s amazons responsibility to protect us from scams and yet they don’t have a report button for us. Live and learn 😢. Have a super week, Ali 🌧️🌧️🇨🇦
Ps thanks for always being true to us gardeners
yes i agree. There is a certain level of trust when you buy from Amazon so it’s pretty disappointing when you get scammed. Have a great week yourself. 🇨🇦🇬🇧🦋🌼🌻
They do have a "Report an issue with this product or seller" option, at least here in the USA. It is under the "About this item" description. Hope this helps 😊
@@aiai-j7i I’m in BC so I’ll check thank you
That's just naïve there are NO pink sunflowers dear. Google sunflowers and educate yourself BEFORE you buy these scams.
This is disgraceful. Going for the big name, reputable seed people is the only way. I've had great results from Sarah Raven, Chiltern Seeds and Otter Farm has a great reputation. There are good companies around.
Sadly, as I live abroad, I can't order or bring in seeds any longer from the UK and they are difficult to find here.
Many thanks for all your research and tips. Hugs from Crete!
I noticed on eBay that there is a seller out there posting images of truly exotic looking versions of flowers that, to me, look clearly photoshopped/enhanced for a hefty price. Have you actually seen BLUE Sunflowers? What I found interesting was tons of “verified” people were leaving positive feedback without having grown the seeds, Just that they received the seeds quickly and excited to see the flowers. I wonder how they’re actually doing? 🤔
I wouldn't buy seeds off ebay. Blue sunflowers? I wouldn't want those seeds if they were free. Sounds very dodgy. I'm suprised the listings haven't been taken down but I think ebay is getting desperate for sellers. Since all the good ones like me, left. 🤣
I seen they looked like poppies right away as I have hem n abundance. It is not funny, but if it was meant to be a joke without harm then it’s funny. I have been sent red geraniums instead of coral. I’ll see soon if they finally got it right this year or if they are color blind.
Yes, thousands of tiny seeds in poppies and I have plenty-and so do you now. I wonder if they will be blue😊.
Oh, yes, last year there was a mix up in peppers and gardeners labeled it PepperGate as people were getting totally different peppers than they expected. Not sure if it was one or more seed companies.
I bought globe thistle seeds that were actually wheat grass seed from poundland. After nurturing it for a couple months i finally twigged the problem
Oh no! I think the worst bit is wasting your time nurturing them.
@@JillBretherton Absolutely was! I felt like I understood why cuckoo babies get raised anyway even when it becomes evident what they are! 😂
@@eleanoraddy4683 me… 🤣
Yep...two packets of French runners...what could go wrong? I don't know how they were stored but both lots went rotten within days of sewing.
seems like a more common problem than I thought and seeds are so expensive!
This isn't as bad as your experience Jill, but I bought some Mr Fothergills white sea campion seeds which I sowed last year and produced lots of seedlings which was good. But they have all started flowering in the last few weeks and they have all turned out to be the normal pink/red Campion.
I wouldn't mind but I already had plenty of those so that was a waste of time! 😅
Wow that is pretty bad since Fothergills is generally considered a trusted brand. I am actually pretty shocked by that.
Accidents and mix ups happen, but I can assure you that Fothergills will see you right.
I refuse to buy off of Amazon for exactly this reason. Not only does Amazon "absorbed" many reputable companies, but the quality and customer service drops.
I find out which company actually does sell what I need, check for any problems listed in customer comments.
Poppies are so cheap and it's ridiculous you paid for a totally different plant and got basically junk.
Yeah. I agree though I did find 2 great seed sellers on there. However, I shop direct from their websites now. I took a punt on the ageratum because I really wanted them. BIG MISTAKE. When it comes to seed shopping I definitely need to shop smarter.
oh no. yes I've been scammed too. paid a fortune for Indian rhubarb and weeping willow and I tried three different ways to try and get them to germinate and not one sprout. sorry for you luck
🥺that’s no right. So sad.
I agree. I wasted a lot of time not just money.
If you paid by credit card isn't that covered for a refund??
good point! might be past a time limit after I realised though.
