    I have seen other videos that use a plastic bottle, but they do not cut the bottom off. They simply put one or two small holes in the bottom, fill the container, placing the cap back on. This creates a vacuum in the bottle, which only allows the water to dribble out of the bottle, thereby slowly watering the pot over a long period of time. At the very least, the pot will not go dry. In addition, I believe mulch was used in the pot, to avoid the soil drying out too quickly...especially on hot windy days.

      Yes, maybe that might slow it down. Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you. Making some cheapo arches today to grow things up. If it goes well there'll be a video if it doesn't I'll pretend it never happened. 🤪 Have a great weekend yourself. Sun is shining!

    What about adding little sponge pieces in the holes or used tea bags so the water won't drain so quickly?

      Great idea. I think it could definitely be tweeked to make it better.

    The main advantage of this for me is knowing how much water I’ve given my plants by knowing the bottle’s capacity.
    I have killed sooo many plants by overwatering!

    maybe you had too many and too large of holes in your water container.. i want to try the one with the string that drips water onto the soil slowly....no holes in the water jug, just a string that reaches the bottom of the water container and leads up to the plant supported by a toothpick and drips...have you seen this?

    • @JillBretherton
      @JillBretherton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have seen that. I'm thinking of adapting this method and doing another video because there is definitely room for improvement.

      @@JillBretherton i tried the string method, with many strings coming out and the strings got tangled up and dried out...moved back to burying a jug with one small hole and a wick half inside the jug and half out...the hole and wick part buried in the soil...

    This would be good in the shade but the plastic heats the water really hot sooner than you might think. Kill your roots.

    • @JillBretherton
      @JillBretherton  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      that’s a good point but because the plastic is buried the earth keeps the bottle and water cool so it hasn’t been a problem.

      Maybe fill the bottles with ice, that would slow it down & help keep it cooler.
