Bought two of these last december, same colours. Had the option for both configurations out of the box with both(only WPL C54, no "dash 1" model).. Love these little C54's. Mount the spare wheel on the bonnet! More weight over the front axle, and the driver won't be able to see where he/she is going! Ooo, and you showed us how to open the bonnet without a special tool!
Thanks for the review, as its always nice to see some cheaper alternatives to the TRX4m, as that way you can get some cheap extra cars for friends to use that you can fix or replace cheaply if/when they break them :-) I would also love to see the new motor and gear box tested with some other ESC and electronics options, as it could just be the included basic electronics just can't really handle the extra load of the bigger motor.
I pretty much figured this would be the verdict. When I saw the "upgraded" 260 motor, I immediately thought of MN, and how horrible those motors and electronics are. They still look fantastic though, and it would be interesting to see that gearbox with a better motor. While I love the performance of the WPL two speed, I hate how low it hangs. It catches on everything.
The hard compound tires are good for rtr for the durability but traction is terrible the soft ones pull well but you do then put more strain on the driveline, ive kept the hard ones on my B16 as ive snapped a few drive shafts until i went to metal ones now the low range in my 2 speed box is starting to play up skipping teeth but ive got the V3 radio gear with the sound. Same as the V3 radio not really great unless you use a 3s lipo and still no end points ! I tried to like WPL for awhile. I don't think I would ever buy anything from them again. Every single RTR they make needs $100 in upgrades just to be usable. They don't even look good next to each other because they're all built on the same wheelbase so the scale is all over the place. It makes me sick thinking about how much money I wasted trying to make their other products fun and usable. Just my opinion.
Sounds like you've just had bad luck the newer stuff is pretty good and if you buy from their website and have an issue they usually sort it, the scales are all over the place for bodies as its the cheapest option for them rather than designing a new chassis for a body.
