Great content and very helpful, thanks!
I got into Rum through cocktails so I'm newer to sipping it neat. Before my cocktail obsession I would have the occasional Whisky or Cognac with friends but I was never looking for flavours.
I was also quite picky as a child so I feel like my palate is more limited than others. For example I can identify pineapple or "tropical fruit", while others could maybe be more specific by noting papaya or guava, stuff like that.
Anyway I'm sure I'll improve my notes over time, even if I can't pick out 10 flavours for each Rum I'm still enjoying it and adding different types to my shelves all the time 😊
Also really enjoying the Podcast, it's "To The Rum!" If anyone else would like to find it and listen 🥃 cheers!

Sounds like we both arrived at Rum through cocktails! The one thing to always remember with tasting notes is that they don’t have to be insanely, refined or super pinpointed.
The favorite note I ever saw was on Reddit where somebody said what they were tasting was a burnt tire in the sun for three weeks. If someone truly is tasting that specific of a note, that’s awesome!
The point is, there is no right or wrong. You can absolutely say baking spices or citrus instead of calling out specific spices or fruits.
Keep tasting and thanks so much for watching and tuning into the podcast! Let me know what you’d like us to cover in future episodes!

Thank you, I like your way of testing! Just some additions. I usually smell and taste again and again from the time when it goes into the glass and tasting does not end for me when the glass is "empty". I still can pick new aromas when the liquid evaporates. Some aromas go away which cover others, some others stay and show themselves stronger. Infinite amount of info can be found in just 2 cl of rum! :D

Thank you! And you bring up a great point. Always wise to go back and re-smell and re-taste throughout the process. It sure is remarkable to be able to get so much on the nose and the pallet just in a small little tasting.
