I saw something yesterday that was outstanding and I want to share this channel with you all. Footage Archive Channel is fantastic ! Yesterday's was "Failed Aircraft Carrier landings" Covered 20's thru WWII with lots of color and colorized film. I highly recommend this channel to everyone. No it's not strictly a military channel but the glimpses of life in the past are priceless and a good source for ideas. How many of you have seen any of the car kits from ICM and IBG simply being driven down a Berlin street in 1936 ? Classic aircraft flying and on the ground ?
Brilliant! I'm learning such a lot from this Channel, weathering isn't My forte, but this Guy has inspired Me to try, which I will be doing, who would have thought of Salt! Fantastic.
Great build, loved the salt technique .Thanks for the warning about the decals, just getting back into aircraft modelling after years of railway and military modelling. I've got one in my stash to do and I've learned a lot from your tutorial.
Nice result. I had the same decal problem with the Tamiya Stuka. Took four sets to finally get a it done. I liked the way you did the salt demonstration.
Great job ! I haven't see somebody doing one of those in years. That Monogram kit has always been a favorite of my Viet Nam vet modeling buddies. You have really brought back some fond memories of good times. Thanks, my friend.
Looks really good. When I was going through aviation school, we had the big cockpit spads and that was what we learned to run up aircraft on. Talk about a Walter Mitty trip when you hit the starter and that big prop started to turn and the motor lit off.
I don't have an airbrush, preferring to do all my painting my hand. But when I tried to build aircraft in 1/72, I had the issue of the landing gear collapsing. So I'm hoping that 1/48 kits will be more stable (they were all Revell kits, by the way. I'll go with Airfix or Tamiya this time). But anyway, I actually don't have any more room for models, lol.
You should have more joy with 1/48 they seem to be more sturdy. I just hang them from my sons bedroom ceiling and I retire them every so often. Thanks for stopping by mate.
@@Mymodellingworld You're welcome. I primarily build battleships, but am looking to shift my focus to planes. Mostly WW2 era like the Corsair, Mustang, Thunderbolt, Dauntless, Wildcat, Hellcat, Spitfire, Hurricane, Bf109, and Fw190. But also Vietnam era like Skyraider and Phantom.
This is an amazing build that I will use as a guide as I now am building this model but PLEASE!!!.....TELL ME WHAT THE FIRST TWO SONGS ARE....AMAZING!!!
@@Mymodellingworld Mild Wild-Particular Pace... I just figured it out with Shazam. Excellent. I have decided to start airbrushing and using salt technique after watching this video.
Before using the salt technique did you use a clear coat to preserve the decals and paint? May seem a strange question, but noticing the use of the toothbrush I though it may be to abrasive on the decals and paint. Loved the build it is a sweet looking bird.
It wasn’t a problem with them laying down the shattered and broke all over the place. Tamiya decals can be problematic even with set and sol (which I use all the time).
Yep just some cheap ones from the works or B&M. The white pen I use I got from hobby craft but I think you can get them in Tesco or some where similar they are more expensive £1 the the one pen but it helps the other colours stand out and if you make a mistake they just rub off. I did the red on the gear doors with them too.
Hi Nigel!!! Wonderful job!! I thought she was about to take off!! Thank you very much for your tips. Where do you come from? Friendly yours from Provins, France!!
Sad that Tamiya no longer produces this kit. The Skyraider is right up there with the Corsair as far as I’m concerned.
If that’s the case that’s a real shame mate might have to find another to build now. Thanks for stopping by.

Problems aside, a beautifully finished Skyraider. Particularly liked the weathering with salt. Must get round to trying this one day. Well day
Cheers buddy I’ve only used it a few time but really like the effect.

Thank you mate. No problem if you careful you should be ok but just watch out as Tamiya decals can be problematic

Thanks Greg. Yep I’ve had problems with every Tamiya kit decals I’ve done think I’ll have to look at after market ones in the future

Thank you Ennis it was my pleasure

Cheers Terry. That’s sound brilliant but a bit hairy lol

@@thefozz976 great mate i hope it turns out great for you but most of all enjoy the process.

Yes mate definitely use a clear coat to protect the decals etc I believe it was a Matt clear coat.
And thank you for the great comment.
Ooow I really want do mine now !! Haha what a fabulous stunning build ,Nige, well done matey
Cheers Steve
Bonjour de la France ville dunkerque 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷e superbe excellent travail de patine 👍👍👍👍
merci mate content que vous l'aimiez
You know that Micro-Sol will wrinkle the decals really bad, but if you don’t touch anything they will lay down nicely

Cracking build, shame about the decals. Gonna have to try the gel pen technique, thanks for the tip! 👍😀
No worries mate thanks for stopping by
Very nice🤗
thanks mate
Beautiful build and salt technique...........despite Brexit.
Thank you mate
Very nice work, but tell us what kind of gel pens you are using??
Thank you mate they are just cheap ones I got from a store in the uk call B&M or home bargains
Hi Nigel. Do you seal down the decals with varnish before you do the salt weathering? Thanks! Drew
Yes drew I used a matt varnish in this case mate
Thanks for the fast response! I love the ‘blotchy’ look on Navy planes and would like to try your method! Cheers!
Nigel, what are those gel pens?
Ooo... off to the works this weekend. Could be the end of detailing panels with cocktail sticks! 👍

do you have a video on a chenook helicopter or you just do planes
I’ve have done helicopters but I’ve not done a chinook one has yet sorry
How long do you let salt dry before light mist coats? Thanks! Stunning build
Thank you Gary. I hit it with a hair dryer on low or you can leave it for about 30 - 40 minutes until the water drys.
Hi Nigel!!! Wonderful job!! I thought she was about to take off!! Thank you very much for your tips. Where do you come from? Friendly yours from Provins, France!!
