Star Adder Kappa Provisional's one of my favourite units in the setting. An entire Galaxy dedicated to learning enemy tactics and acting as OpFor in training operations is a really interesting idea.
This was a fantastic show of how unpredictable Clan mechs can be, especially in Alpha Strike. Those last three rounds of the second match were nail-biting. Props on those paint jobs. Both sides looked amazing.
Thanks! Yah that Mongrel vs Exec was crazy! Could almost imagine the Mongrel dodging at full speed, pulse lasers kicking up dirt. Photo finish on that one.
Love it! Definitely would love to see more Clan-on-Clan action, especially since there are so many great Clan rivalries within the lore. The Star Adders and Clan Blood Spirit, for example, hate each other as much as House Davion and House Kurita do.
This is hands down one of my favourite videos of your channel. I'm a player of Clan Star Adder and I'd love to see more kin in action. Clan Star Adder is easily one of the best of all the Clans. And have some of best mechs. The Adder, Blood Asp, and the Hellfire is decent.
I like this dueling game format. However, in real Clan style, the "winners" from the first Star should have started the fight in the second round (with no repairs) to face the next opponent and increase thier glorious kill count! Wiith the equal number of the second Star having to wait to be "tagged in."
"Gut gehandelt und akzeptiert!" ;) Just finished watching it. I think it really worked out great with including the Zellbriggen and added a special kind of flavour to the battle.
Great two-parter. Good to see Zellbringen and seeing how different skill and unit composition changes/affects the game. Good work and great looking forces.
Really cool seeing someone use the zellbrigen rules in action, that XL engine structure penalty doesn’t seem as bad when the Spheroids aren’t pelting you with everything they have
Those Skill 1 Adders were the absolute game changer. Punched well above their weight. I will also say, it didn't look smart at first to have the Executioner challenge 2 mechs but by doing that it gave the storm crow time to get into ideal range against the dire wolf. If it had gotten tied up fighting the grendel or shadow cat it would have been at a huge disadvantage at range.
Great battles guys, but I kept thinking "grundle" instead of "Grendel" Awesome paint jobs Kevin I am really holding out hoping that you guys will post a match on someone's wife's Christmas village as the battle grid!
Years and years ago, when my wife and I were dating and starting to get serious, I was going to spend Christmas day with her family for the first time. Her mom asked her what I'd like and she tried to explain that I played Battletech so some tiny terrain or something would be a good idea. Come Christmas, I'm just staring at this tiny rustic Christmas village house from the Hallmark store that must have weighed 10lbs despite being so small. My wife is trying really hard to not explode into laughter as I'm trying to figure out why they thought this was a thing I'd like. I must have done a good job being polite because I got one of those tiny houses every year since. Kinda sad now that I tell that story; my mother in law passed away from Covid a little over a week ago, so no more tiny houses for our Christmas city.
Sorry to hear about your loss man 😕 it is the good memories we carry forward - like the one you just shared - that make life worth living! That and thrashing the clans. Hope you and yours have a nice holiday season.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I say do it anyway, you have no set up or breakdown time required for the board, and it would be hilariously funny. My mother in law's village covers the entire top of their grad piano, i dont think it is 6mm scale either but its all i can think about when I see it. Also her reaction would be worth the price if admission
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Definitely something I'd house rule in. Even allowing for very different time scales getting knocked over ought to slow you down significantly - and it would help make higher skill pilots more worth their points, which is pretty hit-or-miss right now depending on the mech. Not sure about taking damage from falls - it's a big deal sometimes in BT, but AS damage scales differently and there are already some serious issues with undo fragility on many things with XL engines.
I was just curious if you guys know how the resin miniatures like from etsy vendors match up with the box sets from catalyst? Are the scales the same ?
I like it it works well in most medium lances and a tough brawler one of my buddies would always strip the lrm out throw on 3 more tons of and more heatsinks and that thing was a nuissance
I don’t understand what you’ve done with the distances. Your house rules say you halve all distances, but wouldn’t that mean for example, that short range is 3”, not 12” since in RAW short range is 6”? Thanks
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I downloaded the DFA QRS and if i’m not mistaken it looks like the ranges are doubled, not halved. So for instance, it says short range is up to 12”. Am I going nuts?
There are two QRS - one for RAW and one for the DFA rules. I’ll be in front of a laptop shortly and can check; neither of them should say short range is 3” 😬
Yes - correct - and I just had a chance to check... that is what it says on the DFA quick ref as well. Where are seeing that short range is listed at 12”? (referencing your first comment)

Great match, very fun to watch. The way I see it, the Gargoyle is really let down by the Alpha Strike. Seems to me like Alpha Strike works better with "generalist" all rounder mechs, but doesn't mesh too well with more specialized mechs. Imo Gargoyle would be doing much better in a full match, where the ER PPCs, gauses, ATMs, UACs would come into play.
I have never seen anyone of you using the special LRM or SRM munitions in any of your battle reports. It's this a redundant rule in AS, as seemingly no one uses it?

This ought to be quick. If you thought Clanners were fragile for their cost against IS forces, wait till you watch them melt against each other. How they ever managed to accumulate the manpower or mechs to manage even an incompetent invasion is beyond given what their actual loss rates are against one another. The challenge system only limits that a little IME. Nice looking figs and a great table. BT and AS always look better gridless. Huh. Do the AS zellbrigen rules follow the "real" rules? The most relevant one is "A warrior has the right to refuse a challenge from a unit of differing weight class if other unengaged units are available." Some of those challenges could have been refused I think, and maybe should have been - part of the reason for that rule is to keep some cocky little runt in a light or medium from tying up an assault mech for however long it takes to kill them when there are unengaged assaults out there. "Worthy foes" and all that. Of course, you'd expect Wolf to be playing for advantage in their challenge strategies... :) 43:00 Looking at "real" zellbrigen, a single warrior can challenge multiple targets, although it's unclear whether you can add new ones while another is outstanding (although that kind of idiotic arrogance sure seems Clannish to me). New targets need to be "free" themselves, and the right to refuse weight-class-inappropriate challenges still applies. The main reason you wouldn't want to do this is that you can't move away from the target of any challenge, so two (or more) enemies can pin you in place just by forming a line with you on it somewhere between them, guaranteeing back shots as happened there.
Yah so many nuances!! There are some guidelines in the Clan Invasion box but it is largely open to interpretation. Great fun for a narrative game - not so much in a competitive/tournament game. Too many opportunities to cheeze the rules 😆
Dire wolf A is there a more perfect assault mech, I don't think so. Every time I've ever fielded the configuration it crushes or it gets dog piled and crushed. Testament to how good it is. As an Adder player little disappointed no blood asp, no burrock, no hellfire, or Night Gyr at least a ton of adders and them doing work. Don't think there is a better representation of clan warfare.
Wave 2 will bring us some more options! And yah those little Adders are tough. I share similar feelings on the Executioner... the MASC feels like a waste of points and the loadout is lackluster for an assault.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I love the new look that they came up with for the Executioner but I can't think of a situation I'd want one over a Night Gyr or Nova Cat or go in the other direction my beloved blood asp. I think that you should only be able to challenge mechs that are either your weight class or 1 higher. Otherwise it's like hey I'm challenging your direwolf with my spider and you just lock down a 100t mech god knows how long. Or the other way around. You challenge a medium with your TWolf, that's not much of a challenge. I think that with more restrictions challenging actually becomes more tactical.
